The brand idea sounds exciting on paper but the execution never really paid off

The thing with the initial brand draft is…. it didn’t really matter. Within 5 months of the initial draft, nearly everyone had switched brands or left the company (and came back to whatever damn brand they pleased).

When the brand split devolved into "Team Red vs Team Blue fighting for bragging rights..." in 2019 I checked out of WWE programming and haven't fully gotten back into it since. It's just dumb to think a wrestler would be loyal to Raw or Smackdown for some arbitrary reason.

What was the title John Cena had that allowed him to be on both brands whenever it suited Vince?

I still say the brand split was a great idea. That way, you can have competition, and you slowly build up the inter promotional matches for specific big PPVs. Then I thought the Undisputed champion being on both shows was a great idea too. If it had been done properly, I feel like it would’ve been more successful than it ultimately became.
