This video sort of make you realise how daunting a director's task really is. You have a whole crew and thousands of people counting on you to give them the right instructions and if the film fails, it's all on you.

Definitely. However, there are also a lot of role-players there to help the director to be able to focus, almost solely, on the primary actors and what's in front of the camera. A lot of the legwork in managing those crowds/extras and such are done by the ADs and other ancillary crew. If the director had to focus on everything, they'd get nothing done. Like you said though, the brunt of the blame would still end on the director though.

ALSO if it is a film you have read and imagined a thousand times in your head, surely telling people what to do would seem a little less daunting - still hard to do none the less.

I love seeing actors between scenes, out of character. Such an interesting hybrid, dressed like the character but being themselves.

It's impossible to understate the vision and brilliance of forethought that Steven Spielberg continues to hold in is mind. One wonders what he might create if there were not limits of time and space.

A stupid question from me, do they film digitally these days right from the beginning?
@TheGeorgeD13
@TheGeorgeD13 8 жыл бұрын
+winni223 Depends on the director and the cinematographer and what they want the picture to look like. Sometimes film (with actual film rolls like in the old days) works better and sometimes digital works better.
@winni223
@winni223 8 жыл бұрын
+George Daugherty Thanks a lot! Until very recently I thought they still use analog camera for the classic type of picture, then develop, digitize it and at this stage begin editing in a cutting room (digitally).
@TheGeorgeD13
@TheGeorgeD13 8 жыл бұрын
winni223 I know that Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese does it the exact way you just described. I know there are a few other directors that still do it that way, but those are the directors on the top of my head that I know still do that.

Boom-mics are used for capturing dialogue, the foley (sound effects recorded afterwards) is done in studio. However, sometimes they'll use the on-set sound if it's good enough to use.

JohnWesley Downey Some actors are very short and play action hero roles despite that. Daniel Craig is 5'9", Tom Cruise is 5'7", Sylvester Stallone is of average height at 5'10", and so on and so forth. But what they do have to make up for in height is screen presence. They feel bigger than they are.

To me it seems like a movie that was really quickly put together like in a year because of Spielberg's career, it isn't well-crafted like his earlier work (well then again, he is only getting older).
@rogerlynch5279
@rogerlynch5279 6 жыл бұрын
Maybe , because it had been done on a narrow budget. After all BRIDGE OF SPIES had been done as an American-German coproduction with the Babelsberg Studios in Berlin and German public funding ( öffentliche Filmförderung ) hence the many German actors in it. Know it because I still remember a German news clip showing Angela Merkel visiting the set.
