From a clear sky to a blizzard. The weather changes at the drop of a hat. We'll see if the UK army issue arctic tent will hold up against the winter elements in blasting winds and snow?

If you can't get tent stakes in the ground it's a very good method to use logs. If the outer logs are made long enough, you can connect the corners to build a frame - this way it withstands quite strong winds without sagging like yours did. In very strong winds you can double/triple them and it needs a hurricane to lift it off the ground (saying of the day: you can't have too much paracord). I hope your luck turned in the meanwhile, stay safe and keep your glorious sense of humor

I grew up in city of Youngstown Ohio in the 1970s. In downtown area. It was bad. I was a tiny white boy. Got beat up every day. Lifes been no picknick. Cut trees 40 years. Working in factory s. Ten years ago driving truck on highway.got hit by tanker 70 mph. Broke neck back. Never got fixed still in court. I watch your videos. Still go ice fishing to enjoy your camping style. Great video. Drive a 1970s Harley Davidson chopper show bike.😊

If you have metal stakes but the ground is frozen heat the tips only in the fire (hot enough to melt the ground but not hot enough the metal loses its temper. Second thought, I remember in basic training during our field training exercise we got snowed in the woods without shelter and we donned our NBC gear and gas masks and were quite warm and dry

nice introduction.....I also stealth camp in Germany with my Dutch army hooped bivibag which suited me quite comfortable in a windy temperature of minus 4 degrees C ........no snow though! I even use my bivibag in Sweden in January...before all the virus craze started, by a night time temp of minus 10 in snow......but still dry and fairly comfortable!! And so far that wa my last overseas travel since the virus thing started.......and I feel an itch to move again...but I cant because of the flight restrictions....

Get some 10 mm reinforcing steel (not deformed, but smooth) and cut diagonally unto 400 mm lengths, then bend one end into a "U". A bit heavy if you're only using a pack, but otherwise very secure fixing.

I guess that I'm sitting here wondering why an "arctic" tent would have tent stakes included with it. Maybe they hold well enough in many centimeters of crusty snow? Otherwise good luck! I like tunnel entry tents....handy for snow and mosquito season. Too bad that they aren't "in style" these days. (Just like external frame backpacks)
@Helsinkipop
@Helsinkipop 5 жыл бұрын
It's an old school tent for sure. If there's enough of loose snow you can use those stakes. The method is called deadman’s anchor. It's not great, worse than poles but better than nothing :-)

I was once a candidate on a Canadian Forces Arctic Survival course in our NorthWest Territories located in the Arctic high above the Arctic circle, with weather conditions being in the MINUS 35 degree range not including any wind chill factor.....there were twelve candidates on the course including two from the Arctic Cadre of the British Royal Marine Commandos. Both continually moaned, whined and complained and did their utmost to avoid any physical work required.....again complaining and whining every day......the course supervising staff were two Canadian Forces Search and Rescue Technicians (aka "SARTECHS") and finally at mid course time, they called in a Canadian Forces SAR Twin Otter to remove the two "RM" candidates, crediting them only for "attending" the first beginning weeks of the Arctic Survival course, not as successful course graduates.....that "Return To Unit" (aka "RTU") of the two whiners, greatly raised the morale of the remaining candidates, all of whom, me included, became Arctic Survival course "graduates".......!
