You notice at 1:00 that FDR was holding on to two gentlemen. In this stage of his disease known as polio, he had lost the ability to walk, but didn’t want the public to know. He would die only months after this film released

He had not had the ability to walk since 1921. Until about late 1943 he had had enough upper body strength to pretend to be able to walk -- with his legs in braces and holding a cane in one hand and a strong man's arm in the other, he could swivel his torso to get his legs to swing stiffly foward so as to appear to be walking. As he grew increasingly frail, he lost that upper body strength; and by the time of the 1944 campaign he was barely able to make it through campaign appearances which required him just to stand, much less walk. He was utterly worn out by election day in November, and thus needed two people to support him in the obligatory shot of him about to vote. Also, when he is shown on election night receiving well-wishers outside his home in Hyde Park, he is seated. He had "walked" out to receive his neighbours in '32, '36, and '40, but he was just too weak to manage this in '44. He managed to stand for his inauguration in January of 1945, but his speech was kept as brief as possible so as to make sure that he would make it through without incident. The ceremony was also moved from the steps of the Capitol (where he would have needed to "walk" down 17 steps) to a portico at the White House where he just had to take two or three steps to approach the podium.

@@willscathlocke2512 That might be what the original poster meant. He couldn't create the illusion of walking anymore.

Thomas E. Dewey was a gracious loser unlike Trump and his election denying zombies.

It seems there might be a misconception. Franklin D. Roosevelt was indeed afflicted by polio (poliomyelitis) in 1921, which left him paralyzed from the waist down. However, by the time of the 1944 presidential election, he had already been in a wheelchair for many years. His difficulty walking was not a closely guarded secret, and the public was generally aware of his condition. During public appearances, FDR often used a wheelchair, and he had braces on his legs. The press, out of respect, usually did not photograph him in ways that made his disability too apparent, but it wasn't a state secret. The idea that he tried to hide his paralysis was more of a matter of discretion rather than an attempt to deceive the public. Roosevelt's health did deteriorate over time, and he passed away on April 12, 1945, just a few months into his fourth term as president. His death led to Harry S. Truman becoming the President of the United States.

Yes, as mentioned earlier, Franklin D. Roosevelt won the 1944 United States presidential election. He secured a fourth term in office, defeating his Republican opponent Thomas E. Dewey. Roosevelt's victory was attributed to his popularity, especially in the context of his leadership during World War II. The American public had confidence in Roosevelt's ability to guide the nation through the challenges of the war. Roosevelt's vice-presidential running mate, Harry S. Truman, also played a significant role in the election. Following their victory, Roosevelt and Truman continued to lead the country during the final years of World War II. Roosevelt's presidency ended with his death on April 12, 1945, and Truman then assumed the presidency.

I mean for goodness sakes you even have people expressing the opinion that Bush stole the election from Kerry never mind that he won the so called popular vote it’s ridiculous . Even if January 6 events didn’t happen there we’re tons of protest and violence on the prospect of Trump winning. It shows democrats as being hypocrites.
