Elvin Bishop was the guitarist in this band. The lead vocalist, Mickey Thomas, is one of the great, underrated vocalists of his time. If you want to hear how awesome he was as a singer, react to "Jane" by Jefferson Starship.

My First Concert. 1975 Elvin Bishop. I was 14. My date, Brenda Brown, was 17.🥰 I was a Lucky boy! Met at "Church camp"!😁😏 This song was the highlight of the night. Wonderful time! Me without a car yet, her, 50 miles away. So sad, it didnt last.😕 Broke my Heart, so far in the past. How the years have flashed by so quickly dear Brenda! I'll always hold a special place in my Heart for the brief, Wonderful moments we shared!🥰 Micky Thomas was Amazing, Live, 10 feet from us!👍 What a Time that was to be Alive! Mike in San Diego.🌞🎸🚀🖖

Hi Britt, Back in the day, singers & groups had to perform "LIVE" on The Midnight Special and this showed the world whether you were good or not; there was no lip-syncing or hiding behind your studio recordings and definitely no auto-tune!!! Needless to say, if you performed well on the show your record sales would skyrocket; but if you performed poorly your record sales would tank!!! In other words they had to deliver the goods!!! Thanks for this reaction too, because as you can see & hear Elvin Bishop & his band did their thing!!!

Elvin Bishop Band ,he is the guitar lead you see. He wrote Fooled Around and Fell in Love. Bishop ; feeling that his gravelly voice wouldn't do the song justice, invited Mickey Thomas, ,a background singer in his band to sing it. Mickey Thomas still sings this song in every Starship concert and still sounds this good I am told, the pride of Cairo, Georgia. Reni Slais is the Rainbow girl who punches it up. Southern Rock had its zenith 70s-80s Allman Bros, Lynyrd Skynyrd etc. If you want to continue this groove Marshall Tucker Band "Can't You See". Love your bright , insightful and upbeat reactions.

Great song but let it rest a few he said. Yes, I am old, 68 , was in my early twenties at the time. Robin Bishop was great and this song made me a huge Mickey Thomas fan forever. This is a special one because they are performing live. You nailed it; he's really good live.

Elvin Bishop is the guitarist and Mickey Thompson is the lead singer and yes, he was a gospel singer in his youth. Mickey went on to sing for Jefferson Starship / Starship.

Takes me right back to 1974 jr. high school, this song was on the charts for a LONG time! Mickey Thomas...great vocalist, don't know why he doesn't get the credit he deserves??

You would have loved growing up in the 70s. The Midnight Special was a show on the weekends we'd watch and see all these artists. It truly was a great decade.

This song is like a perfect composition. It's so well done. I agree with you that 70s music is great. Technically, I'd probably start collecting songs around 1967 and might pick some from just over the line into the 80s, but yeah ... the 70s would be my sweet spot. :)
