Gone at the age of 62. What a loss. Today is the anniversary of his death on 28 February, 2007. Heard this song played on Sydney radio this morning as a tribute to him. Love this version of Over The Rainbow.

Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs played at my high school fete dance in the early 1970s. Brisbane State High School. What an amazing memory. Cheesecloth, beads, incense sticks and pure rock and roll blues on a beautiful night in tropical Brisbane before highrises, cars and pollution and overseas investors. Saw this great band many times in Brisbane. "The Sound Machine" in Elizabeth Street. Alcohol free nightclub where one could indulge on a Johnny Farnham Malted Milk Shake under flourescent lights. Billy Thorpe and his Aztecs is a unique part of my early life at a wonderful time to live in Brisbane Australia when it was a secret to the rest of the world and loved by those who lived here. Now it is a nightmarish mess.
