Most of these "fights" have an obvious favorite. "Giant Assassin Amazon Spider vs Pygmy Rainbow Katydid" 🙄 Normally the katydid would get the hell out, but they put it on the tip of a leaf, cornered, with the spider cutting its escape. Or they just throw it in the spider's web. And if it gets out somehow, they put it back in the "fight".

I think this is a fair match. Mantises prey on bigger frogs, lizards and birds but most of the spiders are smart, quick and maneuverable predators that it makes mantises look pitiful.

The mantis was at a huge disadvantage. Besides, I find the mantis much more brutal as it slowly eats on it's prey while it's still alive, whereas the spider mainly depends on its venom to make the job done.

The point is that venom is a HUGE advantage in a fight at this scale. Sure, the mantis is vicious and can do damage, but just one bite with venom can shut down the opponent’s entire body in seconds. If mantids had venom they would be MUCH deadlier predators.

I noticed that in these things, that they almost always seem to observe two creatures which vary widely in size. The spiders vids I've watched seemed to always show a spider pitted against something half its size, like a heavyweight taking on a bantam weight.

size matters, you can't take a mantis that's slender and fragile and designed for only stealth hunting on smaller insects and put it up against a spider at least twice it's size and 3 times its weight! how about we switch things up a bit, that giant rain forest mantis you had VS the spiny bug against any other "bug"

Aquariums and stages then bring em in for a bit. Youll notice how most of the backgrounds in these are very similar despite their native habitats. Secondly, logic: you'd have to have thoooousands of camera crews scattered about the world for yeeeears to obtain perfect footage of these individual (uninterrupted by other creatures) battles.

In this bug wars there is just one rule, bigger one beats smaller one, no matter what the skills are, at least when the fight is one to one... Only when the sizes are equal you can see some advantages from speed, tactics or armor and design. I think, at equal sizes, Scorpion has one of the best designs and weaponery for combat, he will rarely be defeated by another bug the same size...

I love these videos! I'm truly inspired to make flims like this. Since a little kid insects have always been a great interest of mine and I plan to purpue entomology as a major. I currently got accepted to Texas A&M so soon I will have an entomology degree (: I have a dslr camera and I've been writing a script on an educational documentary of insects!
