Dolly's original coat is long gone. Neither she nor her mother knew for certain what happened to it. They assumed it was probably passed down till it wore out, or taken apart & repurposed. After the success of the song, Dolly's mother made a "near duplicate" (to the best of her memory), which is the one on display at Dollywood.

The one at the Dollywood Museum is technically a replica. But it was sowed by Dolly's mother according to what I've heard. The original was either lost, or handed down until it was finally too ruined to repair. But the replica was apparently sowed by her mother as well. So I guess that still makes it authentic.

This song is a true story. Dolly grew up dirt poor in the hills of Tennessee one of 12 children. She talked about how she would use berries for lipstick and rugeau. A true treasure

She was the 4th of 12 children raised in a one room cabin in Tennessee Appalachian Mountains. This is a true story and the coat is in her museum. She met her husband in a laundry mat and they were married in 1966 and are still together. She has written over 2000 songs. She is a national treasure.

This particular song "Coat of Many Colors" refers to the story of Jacob giving his Coat of Many Colors to his favorite din, Joseph. This made the The Older Brothers EXTREMELY EXTREMELY ANGRY AND FURIOUS!!! They managed to have Joseph sold into slavery in Egypt and deceive their father Jacob into believing that Joseph was devoured by a wild beast (most likely a lion 🦁). Years later, Joseph became PHARAOH'S MOST TRUSTED ADVISOR because he spared The Land of Egypt from a devastating famine through his interpretation of Pharoah's Dream. During the Famine, The Ten Older Brothers and Jacob along with The Baby Brother Benjamin came in to Egypt for help and assistance during the Famine. Eventually, Joseph reconciled with The Ten Older Brothers.

This is iconic as it is a great tribute to mothers. It is a story of moral strength and resourcefulness even at the worst times of poverty. Christians would say the song is also a great tribute to a Bible story about Joseph. But one thing that should be mentioned but never comes up, but they should, is bullying in school. Because the schoolmates instead of sympathizing with her situation for her poverty, just made fun of her and laughed on her. What better example? You see people think bullying is more like physical violence against disadvantaged people. But how about social and psychological bullying by making hurting remarks and actually making a spectacle of people who are different.

My grandmother sewed me a beautiful bed cover from various rag pieces before she died. I use her cover so proudly even today once I do my bed every day, as it is a such great reminder from her. But I also have a beautiful hand made carpet from her as well under my feet. But exquisite hand embroidery that I have put on my wall as interior decoration. She was such a strong resourceful and artistic minded woman.

@@kathystammen3060 I wouldn't be surprised for her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens sacrificed for her family. She was married to Robert Lee Parton and she had 12 children and Dolly was the fourth. They were poor and destitute but she was always around. By the way, "Coat of many Colours" is not the first song to her Mom. This record was my FIRST cassette I ever bought! My parents bought a record player and both my sister and brother bought vinyl albums! Being the youngest I knew I would have to wait for hours to play my record if I bought one! So, I worked and saved my own money and bought myself a person cassette player and bought this record! I loved Dolly and this song brings so much joy to me for two reasons! 1#) The song means alot to me because we were poor and I was always bullied because I didn't wear fancy cloths and I then knew I wasn't alone! 2#) I outsmarted my brother and sister and I didn't have to wait hours and hours to listen to my music!! Lol

I was definitely one of the smartest kids in my class! I made straight A's without anyone helping me. My Mom (unfortunately) was never sent to school. She was the oldest daughter out of 12. My sister and brother were in special ed. My Dad was hardly ever around. So, I got my siblings to do my chores and I done their homework! What's even harder to believe is both my siblings were 2 & 4 yrs older than me! Have you ever heard the saying "Work smarter NOT harder"? THAT WAS ME 😁😜❤

Read the story of Joseph. One of my favorite bible stories. How he went from prison to the palace. God had a plan for his life, and He has a plan for all of our lives. We have to put our trust in Jesus to get God's wonderful plan for our lives. The book of Genesis tells the story of Joseph, and his coat of many colors.

But the story explains his brothers were so jealous of him and the father's preference for Joseph, they first decided to kill him but it just happened that some traders were passing by, so they sold Joseph as a slave instead. Then they killed an animal and use the bloodied cloth to bluff their father some wild animal had killed Joseph. How cruel people can get even when treating their brother.

@onewxrldmusic7303
@onewxrldmusic7303 3 жыл бұрын
@@granta3044 Well perhaps because he was wearing a flashy dress that created so much jealousy? He was flaunting his colours too aggressively thus the adverse reaction of the 10 brothers? I don't know. I am just guessing. But is it that relevant? He had been thrown in some empty pit. Then they had a crisis of heart and their conscience suddenly woke and there were those Ishmaelites merchants coming. So this was an alternative that they saw was viable. The price was 20 old shekels. I think one of the brothers only had the notion. Then the brothers (Simeon, Levi, Zebulun , Issachar, Naphtali, Dan, Gad, Asher, Reuben, Judah) agreed why not "make some money" out of the sordid deal and save a brother's life at the same time. What does it have to do with homosexuality though? His colourful dress? By the way Benjamin, the youngest of the 12 stayed with the father, but all ten were guilty of the plot and very vicious breaking the heart of the father. Thinking of murdering a brother regardless of the motive is atrocious. It is called fratricide. Joseph was number 11. The poor father went into so much suffering and probably never recovered for his entire life. All because of some criminal ungrateful sons. It happens even today you know. The moral of the story. A father should not practice discrimination between his siblings. I guess. But you know how parents are.... You see you throw out a sentence out of the blue and I answer in a full paragraph just to find an answer to an off the cuff comment. Hopefully you are more informed now. Still I don't think there was enough indication Joseph was gay besides the colourful dress he wore proudly. There a "pride" word for you.... . Back to the lovely Dolly Parton. You know at least that Dolly is a "gay icon". Now that much we are certain. One of the true gay icons of the second half of the 20th century. So there, a gay connection for you, which at least is provable. Back to the beautiful song then.
@granta3044
@granta3044 3 жыл бұрын
@@onewxrldmusic7303 if he was the 11th kid the probability of him being gay was greater, if he existed at all, and is not a story borrowed from other religions, which is generally the case for all of the good the bible stories.

@@granta3044 Ok Grant. Yeh, exactly like you said. Bravo. No need to waste more time. You know your stuff real well. Probably you are a true biblical scholar for all I know. Back to the page. You like Dolly Parton's song, just comment. You don't like her song based on some biblical story reference, ignore. I like the song. I think the story behind it is great. It also talks about fratricide, treachery, viciousness, jealousy deceit, criminal evil thinking, apathy, recklessness, ... It also shows great courage, smartness, wisdom and ingenuity on Joseph's side and great magnanimity and pardon when he met his brothers years later. As for biblical veracity, I am not the guy. I will not answer a single word to such a line of conversation on this thread further than what I said. I'm done at least on this subject. Hope this satisfied your inquisitive mind. My patience though has reached its limit. Have a great time ok? Enjoy the music. Enjoy the artist. Spread goodwill.
