Second video in the series automating the Bruder low loader trailer for the Mack, Scania, Mercedes and Man tractor truck units. This second part builds on the first episode - where I fitted telescopic legs and powered them using Actuonix linear servos - and adds a mechanism to automatically raise and lower the ramps. Unusually I used a product developed by someone else rather than a creation of my design for this video. The ramps are made by “PiggyTailer” (Carl Tailor) and are of a superb quality, easy to fit & great value for money. The build is deliberately quite detailed as I want modellers at all levels of experience to be able to follow, replicate & hopefully improve upon what I have done. I am very pleased with the results and wanted to use this solution in the build video - hopefully it add something for the view in addition to the comprehensive installation guide that Carl has already done (which I didn’t know about when I planned this series).

Wow really a awsome build about the only thing I'd might do with my grandsons is maybe lengthen a little so he could haul a couple of his tractors.Great job on the how to on the series.great job.

Thank you! I did lengthen the red trailer which i had a few years ago & converted with a PiggyTailor plate to go on the 1/14 scale Tamiya Scania. It also had PiggyTailor's fantastic folding ramps - it does appear in one or two of my videos - although I may do another one using this at some point. 🙂👍

Thank you Del! It is really smooth & using the ESC allows me to change the speed, I'm really pleased with the trailer generally. I'm actually thinking about converting the little Cat skid loader next - as a relatively easy starter conversion -which if done well should make for a very pleasing working model. I've already figured out how to take it apart & roughly where everything would need to go. Or it could any of a growing list of things backing up on the shelf in the office ....... 🙂👍

@@RCModders The little Cat loader might not be too intimidating for beginner builders - it seems a good entry-level project. There´s a list of future builds in the back of my mind; I´ve taken a leaf from your book and started placing items in a box for the next project . I still haven´t overcome my editing software problems, but that won´t stop me from amassing some of the wherewithall to get started.

Another thumbs up for you. I think i heard the motor just slightly grunt a little just as it past the horizontal part though. Maby a univesal joint between the motor and the shaft would be a slughet improvment. Then you could mount the motor ridgid to. Just a thought.. As usual great video. 👍
@RCModders
@RCModders 5 жыл бұрын
Many thanks! At the horizontal part there might be a slight contact between the threaded rod and the end axle. Id I were to give it any suspension even this wouldn't happen & the motor probably wouldn't slow down. Its worth a quick look round PiggyTailors channel at some of his creations - especially the folding metal ramps - they really are amazing! 🙂👍
@ernsteliden6719
@ernsteliden6719 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Yes possibly, but I rather think the grunt comes from the shift of angle when the end moves from up to down (hope you get what I mean) that's why I suggested the uni-joint. But it is probably just an extra hazel to no use😋. I took your advise and checked the designer out, turns out I had already been watching a few of his films, when looking for bruder tractor builds. Thanks for getting me to rediscover him. Can't wait to see you build the Mack truck, as I am a bit stuck with my build there. Many thanx for your inspiration.

Hey, First time commenting and a new subscriber. I drive a truck for a living. You need to add lots of lights!!! Clearance lamps on top of the cab, turn signals, headlights, brake lights, backup lights with a backup horn/buzzer/beep beep beep, a ton of lights on the trailer, side clearance lights, brake lights, turn lights and backup lights and backup beepers. I'm fascinated with RC! Loved your amphibious RC unit! I would love to get into RC, but my first love is 1/87 trucks/trailers and then HO 1/87 model trains, N scale trains. I am wanting to build a mid size HO scale container ship, mid size HO scale bulk ship and possible a mid size HO scale oil tanker. But I would love to add RC units to all 3 ships and play with them on the water! Plus I have an HO scale fire boat and tug boat. That I wish that could be Radio Controlled, too! Roy H.

Thank you for subscribing! I should probably put lights on a lot of my RC build & conversion, but never sem to have the time to get round to it as I am always burning to meet the next challenge! My Tamiya Scania semi truck is the exception which has most of the lights individually controlled that I can think of - with infrared control through the king pin to control the lights & movements in the trailers! 😀👍

Absolutely amazing video. Im building exactly the same as you but just not yet lol. I have my rc excavator, once i have paid my holiday off (orders of the wife) im hoping for a tamiya truck but i will be going with the bruder low loader trailer. Those little powered pistons that operate the legs where did you get those from? And also the tubing/rod you connected to them with the fittings you screwed to the ends of the rods, did you thread them yourself? Sorry for all of the questions but i am an rc modelling newbie and i have my heart set on a low loader and trailer. Its in my blood and won't go away lol. One comment i will make, when travelling with your excavator on the trailer as you do in your vid, rotate it 180 degrees with the boom (arm) fully down and bucket curled in with the arm between the ramps so as not to catch bridges. 😂😂 Sorry hope i dont sound patronising but i am an excavator operator and there is a tale to tell regarding a friend of mine, an inexperienced low loader driver, and a low bridge but thats another story. Also dont forget your miniature ratchet straps for fastening digger to trailer (yes they really do exist lol) and some mini orange cones to spread about when loading/unloading. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Fantastic video sir, i salute you.

Thank you. The pistons are in fact Actuonix linear actuators - you need to get everything very well aligned & moving smoothly for these to work. I was very pleased with the results. Not sure what you mean by tubing / rod - although I do use my M3 tap an awful lot on all my models. I'll bear you advice in mind when loading the excavator - although I think that I might need to make the trailer longer if I want to park the top half towards the rear (I did this on A Bruder low loader trailer that converted years ago to go on the back of a Tamiya truck). I do have a Tamiya Scania tractor truck (there are some videos of it on the channel) - with full (programmed) lights, sound and an infrared link through to the king pin to the trailers with a duplicate control unit, etc. It cost me a lot of money to do & took a long time. Although, believe or not I tend to use the converted Bruder toy trucks rather than the Tamiya one & could build a small fleet of those for the same price. Glad you are going to have a go yourself! 😀👍

Super interested in starting my own rc craft chanel.. always been a dream to remote control some of my favorite toys.. im curious as to.. where you get all the spare electronics and servo's etc.. is there a certain place you get them or is it from your old rc's.. also if i was looking to do this to my own things what are the things im gonna need.. i cant imagine a short list of tools

With the Bruder conversions I am making a point of trying to avoid raiding my existing models or indeed bits and pieces lying around my shed - as I want to enable others to emulate my builds as easily as possible. And indeed avoid tricky fabrication, hence my recent adoption of designing 3D printed parts which I will make freely available for people to download and print themselves or need be get me to do for a modest cost (I would prefer not to do this, but want give the option). In my most recent videos I am providing a list, with links in the video description to all of the parts that I am using as well as some of the tools. I mainly source stuff from EBay (often from China), Hobbyking and occasionally Amazon. Good luck with your channel! 🙂👍

Hey I'll try and get round to doing this. I am planning to do a revised version of the trailer conversion using 3D printed parts - avoiding the need for expensive linear servos - in the near future, which you may prefer to follow.😀👍

Do you use the same transmitter for the truck and trailer ?
@RCModders
@RCModders 5 жыл бұрын
Very good question. That is what I intended to do, thinking that with budget RC, not only could I loose the failsafe, but that "model match" would also not feature. So I cant do it with this & have to use 2 transmitters - although the TGY-i6S is pretty small 7 doesnt have an external aerial (I actually bought 2 of these in the Balck Friday sale for £22 ($29) in two different colour cases for this very reason) . Although other older systems (maybe the Corona DIY 2.4ghz kit wired into an old 35mhz transmiter like the FC series - I have a couple of these which I modified) would do the trick. With the Bruders I plan to have more than one tractor unit (and maybe more trailers) so I'm not too worried. I might try and to the next one as you describe & see if it works. 🙂👍
