More AOW4 please, this has been a blast!

Something to note is the "Construct Devastator Spheres" siege project: In your tome tier list you rated it really low as it's not very good in the actual battle but it gives +8 siege progress so compared to the headlong rush which you used on ~every siege in this game it's almost a strict upgrade.

I like that the entwined protectors have set their blade on fire, despite them being their hands, and also made of wood

Ashonel the "Lawbringer" is a hilarious name for a chaotic hero

From RP perspective that chaos to nature gameplay makes a lot of sense. You destroy the world, to rejunevate it. End of cycle nation or something like that. I love that flexibility in AoW4

I want to see a feudal play through where you recruit most units through rally of the lieges and try to make vassals of every city in the game.

I cannot afford to buy this game, nor do I have a computer to play it on, so I fulfill my desire to play this game vicariously through you. So please keep making videos on this! I'd love to see a playthrough using Materium to build an uber fortress city to win a magic victory. Or maybe an Order playthrough with mass vassalage.

I do believe you can get access to Tier IV and V units if you do the Gold Ancient wonders early in the game. Gather your heroes and risk it. Kind of a high-risk, high-reward thing, when done earlier, but then you'll be able to have a monster rally of the lieges. :)

When the Nature Books are so good that you turn your chaotic world burning horde into plant huggers. Lmao

The revelation I have reached with this game is that any D&D Optimizer will be amazing at it. Because we already know the key to victory: Action Economy. You leverage the action system to the max and you will always win. Those Vines are a perfect example. Wasting actions of the enemy will literally win most encounters.

Btw i have noticed that over city cap heroes are still cheaper in upkeep than tier 4 units but they are easily stronger than even tier 5 units. So you can make some super stacks the AI cannot handle.

i love how you commited to this game now i hope its not ruining your channel too much but i love this wild ride with you so far, there is just so much to explore since this game has insane amount of mechanics for a just released game, and the dlcs will be a blast too in future

Can you do a Transmute Resources build next? As far as I know no one covered it yet, despite how completely broken it is, and you can do it together with almost any other build at the same time. Basically what you need to do is make all of your cities 100% focus on mana generation, and as soon as you can get to that spell you can turn all that mana income into ~300 production, food, gold and draft income. yes it does give you draft, Transmute Resources spell descryption is actually wrong. And if all that wasn't enough, the Transmute Resources spell only cost you 100 mana to cast, has no upkeep aside from the mana used on transmutation, and you can turn it off any time you want. I'ts also really great way to focus your growth on one city of your chosing, or to print stacks of units every turn in case of emergency.

Nothing like finishing up a AoW4 play session and then watching Potato have at it.

since you've finished this game might i suggest for your next game (if you do play more of it) playing either an order+materium build or a shadow+arcanum build they arent necessarily as strong as chaos+nature or well, anything+nature but i find them quite fun

Great series. I think its time for you to come out of your comfort zone a bit. How about a run dedicated to the affinities you deemed weak in your tierlists? I have tried a Materium dwarf build where I expanded and vassalized for an expansion victory to trigger people flooding into me. Defending with golden golems and stone elementals was a lot of fun. Also choosing a champion instead of a wizard king meant my ruler was an absolute machine with his greathammer.

I love that you managed to create flammable plant people: We are one with nature, but we burn down forests everywhere we walk...

"Vine prison is overpowered" wait till he meets his big brother: vine prison WITH keepers mark. That's a whole level of broken! Order and nature has so much beautiful synergy

potato if you enjoy age of wonders i really loved playing age of wonders: shadow magic as a kid. The story mode i remember being really tough and it builds on some of the lore of the franchise. Artica and karissa the red are recurring characters!

I once got a Lost Wizard as a reward for an early fight. I forget if it was a lair or just a random pod. That guy carried me all through the early and mid game all on his own.

I'm enjoying these playthroughs. I just finished an interesting/weird combination of HIgh culture and heavy order tome investment with a dip in shadow for the two cryo magic tomes while going full evil. The alignment agenda interaction is very rewarding if you ignore awakeners and sunpriests for inquisitors, frost witches and chaplains. If you like sunderers, inquisitors are a frankly nasty version of them that just casually stun at range.

Would love to see more of this game!

Great series, Potato! I’m absolutely loving this game, but I feel like the mid to late stages in AOW4 can really drag on and I’d be interested to see a guide video that focuses on that. Some of the talking points might include: choosing a victory condition, assessing enemy victory conditions, making good use of teleporters, balancing offense and defense, and using the underground and oceans effectively. Is this a reflection of Potato being Naturally Chaotic? :) Great playthrough, very entertaining and a really fun game. So many options for playing style and victory conditions now feel like a focus rather than a happenstance in a game.

Well I'm realizing I just never finished reading enchanted bloom, just kinda went 'eh whatever more grass' and called it a day. It's actually huge if you have the grasslands and probably worth it anyway to get farms if the area stinks, wow!

Am I wrong, or will that Enchanted Bloom spell start turning your provinces into grassland, and remove the bonuses you were getting from forest adjacencies?

would love to see a nature/order playthrough where you make use of releasing as vassal, I had so much fun doing a playthrough as materium/order where I spammed out vassals and used rallies often. It just allows you to easily get extra income and “claim” land so easily, let’s you get fronts that are heavily defended as you can reinforce with rally as well, and you really don’t have to worry about them as much as your own cities.

And you need to migrate more. You might collect more races to build your units, through conquered cities and vassals rallies, but for 150 imperium you can change the city's race to yours and still get the race transformations.

More games for sure! :D I wanna see a super order based, vassalize *ALL THE THINGS!* god emperor type play.

You mention denying territory like in Warhammer. One thing to note is that Desolate Terrain cannot be settled/expanded into. There are spells that make provinces desolate.

I discovered something discusting with summon Vine Prison. I went tome of santury to get the upkeep spell that gives all my units the ability to survive on 1 hp for a turn (like berserkers) THIS WORKED ON THE SUMMONED VINES!!!

Just wait till he finds out that vine prison works with keepers mark. You get vines that don't die the first time and get steadfast for a turn. Now that is broken.

Clearing the tree(i forget name) gold ancient wonder lets you take a horned god as reward, I've had 2 of them relatively early. Some other one offered me a gold golem also. Their upkeep early on actually made them probably not an overall good thing for me but definitely a fun thing. There's other ancient wonders can get tier 4 units early in rally of sieges.

Hey Potato, definitely more! Could we see some of the other victory cases? You mention that you enjoy a game when it is honest about being focused on combat and domination. Does that mean in AoW4, that non domination is largely not possible? Seems like a lot of the tomes are focused on military ability.

Really find it funny that Gaia's chosen race is a bunch of leaf demons that burn everything in their path, be it the vegetation they walk upon or the cities they conquered... How Chaotic I guess ashes make good fertilizer, so that's why they're Gaia's chosen.

Gaias chosen also makes your race into plant people, which is really god with a lot of other nature spells that buffs plants...

Slampit sounds like the name of a city where it all happens. I would party down in Slampit.

Here's hoping we see some more Age of Wonders. It's just a good interesting 4x with a lot it seems like you could do with it.

Hey Potato. Would love to see a shadow & ice undead game. Tried one where above ground was a frozen wasteland and it was really difficult but very satisfying to beat.

More please! I'm not the hugest fan of manual combat so another auto combat strong build with different factions and affinities would be great!

I'd love to see a Roman Empire style build, with heavy infantry and vassals. Or a Arthurian/Camelot build, heavy on knights with tanky heroes with magic weapons.

If you Angelize your units, they will remain under your control when you cast the "Awaken Instincts" spell.

You have the most broken builds ever. but broken in an extremely fun way :) love the AOW4 content.

Maybe the game needs an optional elder game. Like once you defeat all the other players perhaps you could open a rift to a new map where you combat full stacks of t5s. That way people who want more of a challenge could get it, while being able to play around with their end game units. Alternatively, maybe some of the wonders could give you a temporary high tier unit to play around with as an ally.

Try setting the game speed to "fast" in your settings when making a map, buildings build quicker and research goes faster too, still stuck with 150 turn limit, but can get to Tier 3/4/5 units a lot quicker and have more fun with end game troops like you've been wanting

AOW4 is great, will you do a story mode playthrough?

Overlord is a reliable way to close out games for sure especially coz wars start around 60turns so even rushing 1 ai makes the game better albeit it has the downside of allowing them to still grow and expand.

You were worried about the Seed of Order, he needed to build the Root and Heart to win. But still, he had to cast the Age of Order and hold all of the aforementioned with his units. You would have 15 turns to attack, but in total you'd have like 60-80 turns. On Brutal they still don't rush Magic Victory.

hey Potato, im new to the game and im a realy big fan of stealth and assisn playstyles. is there anything like that in the game? i tryed looking it up or using the infosystem in the game but couldnt find any. does that mean im out of luck? i saw a trade while playing that my hero unit can detect invisable units. thats why im asking. thanks for the videos, helped mit a lot with starting this game :D

Total war: Warhammer has the same problem. By the time you can build all your coolest units you're snowballing so hard you don't have to manual battles anymore. If you want to see your stack of nineteen suege tanks in action you have to indulge in some unnecessary manuals.

It's very interesting how there was real danger but the AI just randomly went attacking instead of defending themselves. I wonder how an online game would be. Maybe do one of those? That would be great, get some people to actually want to play the game past turn 150 and we can have that cool late game experience with strong units etc.

Do you think you could win with the more average factions? Maybe you would actually get a chance to use the higher Tier units if it takes you longer to win.

So you killed everyone, excuted their heros. waged wars throwing your exbandable units lives, created demons to take down cities. THEN you switched to tome of Paradise and claimed utopia. Griffith is that you ?!!!

I've got about 70 hours in game now..and it appears that the ONLY way to victory is to smash the two closest free cities to your capitol. Otherwise, all the good real estate to you is taken, and you end up with a snake-like elongated empire. Bad part of this is that it is difficult to play a "good" civ, as you smash the free cities. You don't have the appropriate casus belli.

Kneel or burn, or maybe both.
