I'll never forget my two attacks before my gallbladder was removed. They were like childbirth. Nothing at all like your description of the upper and back pain. It radiated everywhere. It was agony. The first time I was loaded up with morphine injections and sent home after a night. The second time I saw a doctor who sent me strait to surgery. Thank God.

For anyone with abdominal pain, I know it really sucks and I sympathize with you. It’s awful especially at night time trying to rest and you can’t because the pain just keeps you awake. I’ve been there. Hot showers sometimes helped me. Just remember it’ll pass eventually and you’ll get through it.

My midwife thought it was the muscle in the middle of upper abdomen taring😬. It was Like a burning sensation. Then suffer at least one a day since then. Its wasn't until I had an ultrasound that it showed gall stones about 11mm I think they said lots of them. Just waited for my referral to see consultant down. Fingers crossed I'll be pain free soon. Doctors are useless. Get the HIDA scan. It is a simple procedure but needs to be done to check gallbladder function plus tests liver. I had one done and found my gallbladder is not emptying efficiently and I have a sphincter of Oddi dysfunction. I’m trying to find out more about this. I have ceased alcohol all together not that I drank much but it isn’t good for pancreas. I also do stretches and stopped eating red meat as my pain was unbearable. I drink and stay hydrated and I drink a lot. The pain for me when it first started was on LEFT side which is why doctors just ignored. All my scans were normal But it was only HIDA scan that showed this up. I found wheh in hospital the light diet helped to alleviate pain but also hydration.

Can you talk about the difference between physiological vs. functional gallbladder issues and what a patient can do.... (ie. Functionally they aren’t making enough bile). What if someone suddenly starts eating a ketogenic diet, will they have issues due to more bile production? What if a patient presents with all of the symptoms of a gallstone but on exam and ultrasound no stones are seen...

Keep going back for scans until you do I had this problem for years as my gallstones were too small to be seen on a scan but over a period of time they grew bigger and was able to be seen on a scan more visually. maybe they are too small to be found yet on a scan? But don't give up, keep on their case about it xx

how about dissolving the stones with a laser. how about helping people prevent gallstones. so quick to rip it out. it’s there for a reason just like all the parts we have. ripping out an organ opens up the door for other problems that will never go away. seems like the intelligent thing to do is to dissolve the stones and prevent further stones from developing by changing your diet and lifestyle. I know this is all that people talk about these days but it’s true. we eat too much we eat too fast we eat too often, and we eat the wrong foods. most of these diseases are caused by Candida, SIBO and parasites, because we eat the wrong foods, chronic stress, and a polluted environment.

Buck Parker, I feel that it's important to provide people with good health and nutritional information. People after getting their gallbladder removed should change their diet and lifestyle as they actually caused the gallstones to form. If they don't change their diet, something else will break. You don't get gallstones because you have bad luck or a bad gene. Gallstones aren't formed because people eat too much cholesterol either. Bile is made out of cholesterol and gallstones are a consequence of not enough bile as it sits stagnated in the gallbladder and crystalizes into gallstones. The consumption of good fats triggers the gallbladder to squeeze bile into the small intestine, so a low fat diet works against a healthy gallbladder. Likewise, wheat has a lectin called Wheat Germ Agglutinin (WGA) that causes blood clotting or agglutination. This WGA has the undesired ability to block the production of a hormone called cholecystokinin (CCK), the hormone that causes your gallbladder to squeeze and release bile.

Same issue which is causing more pain 4 months later. Gallbladder seems to be in almost constant activity. Has to wait due to same day surgery shut down. Pain intensified the last 2 weeks with diet. Will see surgeon in 2 days to schedule removal. All the common symptoms, but vomiting. Tired, lost weight, pain lasting for hours. On FMLA. Doctor says 2 week recovery. Hopeful for same day surgery.

try regular 2 or 3 day fasts. Start with one day fasts. And remove all hydrogenated fats from your diet; also don't eat sugar or honey or maple syrup or white flour products or potatoes. Or rice. Or pasta. Or pizza.

When I have my gallbladder act up I use a heating pad and lay it on my bed and lay on it in the mid section of my back and the pain goes away 90%. My pain always last for 9-10 hours. Also turn the pad on hi.

Over the last few weeks I have been getting sudden 'attacks' of pain which are right across my abdomen. It's an intense ache and hollow feeling, that makes me writhe in pain. It lasts quite a few hours. Yesterday I felt fine, had a light lunch with only 1 teaspoon of coconut oil. Unfortunately I ate bread, which I don't usually do. I would say that half an hour later i started getting pains in the middle of my upper abdomen, and really felt grim. Within another hour or so I could barely walk. I had chills and fever, nausea, vomiting, and all i wanted to do, and did do, was crawl into bed. The pain /discomfort hasn't abated. I have pain in my upper right quadrant, as well as pain in my mid back region, sort of where my kidneys are. I took painkillers last night which helped a bit, but still have fever and pain on my right and into my back, right - hand side. Also a headache. Does this sound like gallbladder?

I had simular symptoms 2 days ago, which worsen to intense unbearable pain. I experienced bone crushing contractions that only intensified the pain, even after 50mg of tramadol and smoking some pot the pain presisted, it did not subside. (Not that I condone, promote or recommend self medicating.) I was in a bad state of mind. The pain i felt was far greater than any of my 5 c-sections including labor pains and post surgery recovery. Also, I had no support. My husband down played my complaints and pass it off me being needy and seeking attention. He left me alone, which made me more proactive and I went to the hospital. That is when i learned I had gallstones and needed to remove my gallbladder. This is new to me and i find comfort in learning about the gallbladder and hearing testimonies of other people with this issue. It can be terrifying as you feel like your inside are going to explode. Its important to get medical care and know what your dealing with. I wish you the best, and hope for a speedy recovery.

@@kimberlyrosssegovia203 I've been in the miserable tides of gallbladder pain for about a year. And I'm so sorry that you had a family member who dismissed the most unbearable pain imaginable as something you were making up. I've had to explain to my own family that it feels like someone is taking a lead pipe and is slowly sawing back & forth through my upper right rip cage to my back with relentless fury. And NOTHING, no position or massage will help alleviate these hours of antagonizing pain. I'm surprised you didn't straight up leave your husband, no offense. The fact that he saw you in agony and dismissed it so cavalierly must've made you feel so alone, and that breaks my heart for you truly. Gallbladder pain sends you into a helpless feeling of despair and depression, because it is persistent. It ruins our ability to simply eat anything without the intense fear that this horrifying pain will come back. Did you end up having the gallbladder removed? And if so, how have you been since then? I genuinely hope that you're doing better. Only those who have experienced this awful madness can truly understand the terrifying physical and emotional grip it has on our lives. And I sincerely hope and pray your life has seen brighter days since your post. *hugs to you*

I had a stabbing pain at bottom of sternum right where you put your fist. Along with pain on left side of neck back, hit me like a freight train out of the blue. Ambulance took me in to make sure it wasn’t a heart attack. Xray and cardiac tests were ok. A couple weeks later I had a nagging stabbing pain above belly button, over the day it migrated to lower right Q, then stretched from there to up under ribs in upper right Q. Pain was excruciating… I’ve got 4 kids, given birth with no medicine… this was that level of pain. I had tears running down my face, nauseous, whist white, sweating… pain was one of the worst in my life. So much so when triage Doc asked to touch my stomach And started for it I started crying begging him not to. It lasted several hours and ended with RUQ up under ribs for 2 weeks. Variations in pain level but nothing like it had been in ER. The CT for entire abdomen was fine, but advised an ultrasound for gallbladder and liver. Got that a week or so later and gallbladder unremarkable and liver was more dense than a previous scan. I still have sporadic typical gallbladder pain. Nagging aches at my ribs, always severely bloated, nauseous, gaseous. Have a HIDA scan tomorrow and I’m just expecting nothing at this point. What is it going to show that the X-ray, CT, U/S hasn’t? Like everything else I’m now just expecting “nothing remarkable” to show up again. It’s frustrating. I don’t know how I can have such EXCRUCIATING off the charts beyond level 10 pain at its peak like that for over an hour and…. Nothing. Nothing shows up. Everything’s fine on the scans. On the tests. I love my GP. He doesn’t like leaving any stones unturned so he wanted this HIDA Scan ASAP, but I plan on being prepared for no answers again. And he retires this month ☹️ Best Doc I’ve ever had. So whoever is taking his place until I find a new physician is going to handle the results. If this comes back showing nothing, my GP would move on to the next thing, diagnostically speaking, bc nothing can cause that much pain and continuous problems and not be “nothing”. But he’s gone and this new GP could very well look at the past tests, an ok HIDA scan and say, “well, all scans show no problems.” And leaving it at that. Has anyone else experienced anything like this and had it somehow figured out? I’m grasping at straws at this point I’m so discouraged….

Sorry you are having such a tough time. I have seen pain from the gallbladder result in all negative tests. On a few occasions, I have removed the gallbladder as the last "test". Sometimes the gallbladder appears normal and other times it appears very "sick" on visual inspection in spite all negative tests. So what I'm saying is don't give up on those doctors yet haha. I also want to mention that sometimes we doctors get on one track and ignore other possibilities. If there is nothing on the HIDA, I might get a second opinion from another internal medicine doctor and also a general surgeon.....fresh eyes and brains are sometimes needed.

Whilst i can appreciate the desire of people to avoid surgical removal of any organ and specifically the GB in the context of this presentation, one of the most informative aspects explained is the spectrum or continuum from biliary colic through to organ destruction/sepsis. Lets be real here - milk thistle, citrus peels, a GB flush and gentian root have their uses however if im at the pointier end of the spectrum and losing a throw down with GB sepsis im not thinking about ways to retain a necrotic malfunctioning organ and im thankful of competent surgeons who can remove it quickly. This is not the time for herbal preps, tinctures, traditional medicine or prayer alone. No im not a medical professional

Dr. Parker On your drawing , you showed a stone entering a narrow duct, why remove the gallbladder when you can possibly remove the stone by making an incision and remove it. Also can put a stent in the duct to widen it so any or no stone gets stuck. Another question, how large is the gallbladder ? Is it incision in small parts to be removed through the navel ? I’m hesitant to have the surgery even though I experienced pain a few times and put of surgery and wait it out. 75 here.

In November I had a laparoscopy for diagnosing endometriosis... now my gallbladder is playing up badly and I think it needs to be removed but I’ll have this confirmed by the ultrasound results tomorrow My question is would it be any problem performing another laparoscopy after only 8 months? I understand that one of the incisions would be performed through the bellybutton again so the same spot as previously. Thank you
