In this video I test out my plumbing job with an aquarium water test. After filling up the fish tank with some water and starting the Apex Cor 20 Pump, I walked around the back of the saltwater aquarium. I found plenty of plumbing water leaks. This video will explain all of the water leaks I experienced how I stopped the leaks. I even completely forgot to glue in a piece of PVC to a PVC T fitting. Enjoy!

Adding a small amount of Vaseline or petroleum jelly to threads of unions and the o-rings allows you to get the unions tighter while in the future easier to break apart... sweet tank!

Helpful tip refer Gil! Using silicon grease on all of the Union gaskets greatly decreases the chances of a leak and helps to make a better seal. Also makes tightening and loosening the Union a lot easier

I always grease, use silicone grease, inside the nuts on unions. This is because plastic to plastic friction can keep you from tightening the nut easily. It is also good to grease the o-rings to keep them from drying out.

Use pipe dope on threaded parts only on unions. This will cause less friction and allow for seal to evenly tighten. Plastic yo plastic with no pipe dope causes o ring to crimp itself out of seat where gasket sits.

Being a plumber for 30 years-shit happens, u can buy oring lube or grease which will help seal joints faster, u can get that in oxygen safe so I’m assuming it will be good for ur tank also oxygen safe green Teflon tape, one thing I found out recently when cleaning my manifold is that the brown gunk that usually collects inside the pipe only collected on my white pvc fittings not the red pvc pipe I got from BRS?? So I won’t be taking it apart for a long Time now that I know that, luv unions but always a potential leak, I’ve had copper pipes not leak with 100 lbs of pressure and not being soldered, someone upstairs was looking out for u!!

I think I mention the overflow didn’t look to good to me as a plumber (not enough sealer to me) The drain hose if you decide to go with pvc just put a tee with a piece of pipe above the tank and will work as a vent since the water is draining by gravity needs properly ventilation that’s why is kinking the hose cause is not air helping My friend your good, it was nothing compare to the amount of pvc joints Is looking great. Pretty close to the moment of the clown returns. I love your drain system I only wish that I had a basement. Great work and perseverance form now one is all good coming to your tank

I didn't know you were a plumber, wish I did. I'm going to add the stiffer hose on and probably back off the amount of water I drain out. Makes total sense to ventilate the drain though.
