RE: Keywest Puma: Since you have been in carpentry for so many years I recognize any applaud your experiences in overcoming all the crazy things the framers, drywallers and less not forget the architects and engineers throw at us. No joke, I am confident you know your stuff and I would love to pick your mind, I know you could teach me lots of things and conversely, I might be able to share a thing or two. I find Matt's lessons always extreamly informative. God I wish I had known that trick with the dividers 50 years ago while laying out stair wells for concrete construction. If you would invest $5 bucks a month with Patreon, I am sure you would find the kind of detail you are looking for. While I might laid out stairs a little differently, Math's lesson points out his method of building stairs, and made one point very clear was the relationship between run and rise and we all know that concept is fundamental before you can begin to start a lay out not only for stair lay out but every phase of construction. Look at what the Egyptians did while building the pyramids. Best wishes to all.

I built a stair box similar to those only in dimensional lumber as the steps, definitely not as athletically pleasing. I used a piano hinge on the middle step to access storage under the step. This video was exceptionally done. I live in Canada so I already own metric dividers.

Learned something new - lifting the saw blade up, like an upsidedown plunge cut. Thank you. Clearly your client is happy to have a set of garage steps costing them upwards of 6x more than what might otherwise be suitable. I appreciate your skill, as an engineer, draftsman, comedian, producer, camera operator, sound designer, lighting gaffer, maker, and teacher. A man after the hesrt of Jesus. Nice.

I like your term 'upside down plunge cut' Neil... I learned something new too! Unfortunately the very process of producing a video like this skews reality of time and cost involved... sure they're more money than steps made with construction grade lumber but, dollar for dollar, I'm convinced they're comparable with more cost but far more quality/durability. The two previous set of steps combined were probably less than half of these but that money was wasted, this $$ was invested IMHO😎

Awesome video Matt. I live in a ranch house, and I’m walking around looking for a place that we need stairs! Maybe for the top shelf of the pantry? Oh wait, stairs for the dog to get in the bed! I’ve got to find a place to put some stairs now that I know how to build them. Always enjoy your videos. I’m a late in life woodworker so videos like this allows me learn so many things in 90 minutes, things that would most likely take me years to figure out on my own. I don’t have years, heck I don’t even buy green bananas anymore! Your videos have definitely made me a better woodworker. How do I know that?? Because every time I’m in the shop and contemplating how I should do something, I always ask myself the same question. “How would Matt Jackson do this”?

Thank you for your gracious comment Skip... much appreciated! BTW I still buy green bananas but am able to hide my own Easter Eggs and still provide hours of entertaining challenge trying to remember where I put 'em🤣Glad to know you're on a journey to your own 'next level' despite your 'late in life' start and anything you glean from NLC that helps you on your way is my pleasure to provide!
