So many questions!!! How did you figure out the grain of the billet to get such an even split using the dowels? Did you have to grave both sides of the billet to get the cleave so even? When your cat shat the rods did it make a lot of noise? Which was louder, the rods or the bearings? Does feeding the cat full fat milk help?

Hey Tony, been watching your videos for a while now, and between you, Jody and Mr. Booth, I went ahead and taught myself TIG welding and bought a cheap little lathe, watched all you guys' videos over the past 5 years, thinking I'd just use the skills to make stuff for myself and maybe family members. Turns out there's nobody around here that weld aluminum or manually turn metal, so my cheap welder and chinese import lathe have made their investments back many times already, although pretty much all of it has gone back into tooling and precision measuring equipment, and I love doing it to relax, everything about it is so meditative and a nice change from the attitude I'm used to having to have at work (at work I have to make sure things are done FAST, with welding and machining I can calm down and make sure it's done precisely). Having spent a lot more now on precision measuring devices, I have to say I'm pretty impressed with what cheap import machines are capable of these days. I did split my first 4-jaw chuck in half from overtorqueing (I deserve a free Abom Torque shirt) it but with their prices I guess you can't always get the best :P I do have an old Starrett depth gauge from my visit to New Hampshire last year, missing the 2-4" range, but for how little of my work is imperial it doesn't matter too much. I'm European so I hardly ever take them out except to just admire them. Thank you for all you've been able to impart in terms of knowledge, I hope you keep it up for many years to come. Next I'll have to get myself a milling machine, when the hobby budget allows for it. I miss the video of you building the hydraulic press, I'm all for curating your video history but I really loved watching that one :(

That wooden peg trick is so neat it blew my mind. I wanted to have a go at it because it looks like it might be of great use for some projects of mine so I tried driving out to the hardware store looking for one of those glass scoring knives but ended up heading back home a few miles into my drive after I got pulled over for having a bad turn signal. I don't want to drive until I get my car fixed so I decided to try looking on amazon but no luck. I was also told that I might just be low on blinker fluid and to try that first to see if it solves the problem. Anyone have any suggestions on where else I might look to find those things?

As the 'Great One' [Milton Burle] said, 'you can't compete with kids or pets'. But thanks for trying. Since my NDE, I'm a lot humbler and each day I'm just happy to wake up on this side of the grass to the light of a new day, the gift of life for one more try at a day on earth. Kids and pets are just what one needs after NDE leaves you penniless and out of useful tasks each day. My Dad worked for Grumman and worked at age 19 on the F4F and other carrier planes that he would later repair on board the CA-20 during WW2 and saw many fine machinists reduced to sweeping the floor, only because of the distrust their parentage blessed them with[they were German]. Happily today, CAD is doing good work in the field, but I'm now disabled with vertigo and can't risk going near any man[or woman]-eating machine.

I've had a seriously sh*tty and long day at work, I've also felt ill from waking up (I feel seriously hungover, Which I wouldn't mind so much if I'd actually been drunk in the last 4 years. :( ). So because of all that I've been so very close to physically ripping customers heads off since clocking in this morning. I've come home really late (Still feeling moody as hell) and see that you've uploaded a video. Half thought I couldn't be bothered to watch this tonight, But did anyway........... I'm glad I changed my mind. I'm not saying that this one video's turned my psychological view of the world into a warm fluffy panorama of unicorns, Bunny rabbits and rainbows........ But I don't quite feel like I should skin my boss alive, then rolling him down a hill in a barrel full of broken glass, Razor wire and salt anymore, So that's a positive thing...... Right? Anyway, Love the finished result, it looks very professional (Not that this surprises me of course, After all, It was you that made it. :) ). It's got that look of classic solidity that tooling USED to have. The kind of tool that (Hopefully in the VERY VERY distant future) will still be perfectly usable when you leave it to your son. Also, Have to say, This video was probably the funniest one of your's I've seen in quite a while (And that can't be easy due to how high you've set your own bar in the past), So thanks for taking the time to make them, And thanks for brightening my day.

Because of you....I'm no longer a video lurker. Up until a few weeks ago I didn't watch much on KZfaq & definitely didn't think anything was worthy of me spending the time to comment on or even subscribe to (kind of a social media introvert you might say). Then I stumbled on one of yours & now think I've probably watched all of them. Great job on all aspects of your work, I enjoy watching & learning laughing with each one. If you're not a teacher, you should be. This is coming from the self-taught CEO (Chief Everything Officer) of a custom woodwork home-based business. I'm not sure how or why people spend all the time making these videos, but I'm pretty sure money's involved somehow. It's obvious that money isn't you main focus because you don't stop every 30 seconds to promote a sponsor; something which I feel taints the value of the information as well as kills the fun factor. Regardless of how it's done, I hope you make millions along the way. Cheers

Hey, you can actually do a lot of really cool stuff with a hacksaw on aluminum. Add a file and a decent vise, and you'd be amazed at what you can accomplish.
@stanwooddave9758

"using a hacksaw to cut aluminum does not qualify." No, but it is a start. Nobody is born a machinist, we all have made whopper of mistakes. The question is: Can you learn: Just what you did wrong, what could I've done better to avoid the problem. How could I do this in the future, be faster, have much better RESULTS, and avoid the BOZO(s.) If you can analyze the ongoing situation, your well on your way. Now go out buy a vise, and get started, have fun, and don't look back. :-) Just in case anyone reading this, and is not familiar with who or what is / a Bozo. It was a TV Series: "Bozo the Clown { played by Robert Renish} (1959-1962.") Yes I'm old enough that I did watch it back in the day in BLACK & WHITE TV, when it was the only option.
