For this outing we are building the 1/1000 scale USS Kelvin as seen in the JJ Abrams reboot - the ship only appears in the first few minutes but it's made an indelible impression on me. I also use the Masking kit from Aztek
Dummy - you can find his masking sets at www.culttvman.com

Brings back memories. When I was young, I built models of the Millenium Falcon and Cylon Fighter. They hung on wires over my bed for years. Thanks for sharing this video. Subscribed.

It's nice that over the years people have also documented the changes you need to make to that kit to produce the other kitbashes of the CG model.

"I know you're laughing." Yes, and it just goes show what contortions you'll go through to get the job done! Very nice.

This was so relaxing to watch, a craftsman at work😊 I like the idea of AMT one day reusing the mould to release a much larger, even more detailed version, maybe 1:350 scale.

Looks really nice, the Kelvin is a big starship when you consider the kits the same scale as the Polarlights 1/1000 Tos Enterprise.

Nice to see an Out of the Box Build , Great Job as well. Phil , have you ever thought about doing a Couple of Sea Quest Model kit builds , they were Great Kits ? You could give us a little insight to the show while you build. Would be Fun to see.

You know, I bought an original R2-D2 MPC kit at a swap meet a few years back, and I've been afraid to break the shrink-wrap. I built the kit as a kid, I know it's not the best out there, and in the box it was going for $150, last time I checked. BUUUUUUUT, like you said- they were meant to be built. Maybe once I finish my Airwolf... that one kicked my ass, it was missing the windshield and chin windows. Made some plugs and thermo-formed windows, and I'm on the home stretch!

I despise the Abrams Star Trek films and would never consider buying anything from that universe, but I am watching your video anyways to support your channel.

The Kelvin and the Franklin are good looking kits. I think they fit well in cannon. I don't think I'd ever build any of the clown shoe Enterprises though.

I'm generally displeased with the JJverse of Trek. And as mistreated as the concept or the characters might be (in my book) I don't begrudge any actor and crew their paydays. Also, the model industry got a swift kick so it ain't all bad. I'm sorry you didn't light this guy up, but nothing wrong with static display. Speaking of display, what's up with that base? It starts to look like a dedication plaque but it's made as a parallelogram. Huh? Wha--? It's different but gimme a block of wood any day. Somebody in the pattern shop must'a asked how many surface lines do we want? And the answer is, all of them! What's that, Frank? I thought I said "all" -- now I want twice as many all over the place! Which is fine. What happened to my sleek, appropriately scaled super smooooth in-scale models? But I shall not be building the Kelvin. I can see one thing I must bring up-- I didn't see any water at all under those decals. You need some water to let those babies slide around. 'Cause what happens is what happened-- just the spot, no to the right, nope-- locked down for eternity. Get out the spokeshave! So more water first-- and maybe that drop of dishwasher detergent for more slip. Of course, I want to see more of your up-close work-- if you flop around or get something goofy, well, buddy-- that's show business. But you succeed most of the time and that is entertainment! I think you're doing great-- funny early comment about talking too much. Well, there's a lot to talk about. And you've probably built more than that fellow. But it's not a contest, right? No; it's a contest. And you win!

I bought my hot toys batmobile 20 years, ago. It came led lighting. Rarely, turn it on. Except on very rare, occasion. So what's the point. I have been watching, azteck dummy for years. But the lightning, is cool, but not my thing. M.

Hey, Color the letters on the base, scan 'em Send me the file. I'll copy it, cut 'em in black vinyl and snail-mail the vinyl back to you. I've got enough black scrap to do it up. I'll email you my email.
