This is almost identical to a workshop I’m buying, 16 x 8 shiplap workshop for around £1600 or an 18 x 8 for around £1750 but that’s just the timber framed shed, no insulation or DPM or WP membrane or anything so I’ll have to buy those on top. This is the issue I’m having, do I buy the main building as a kit and take out any guess work as I’ve already got a solid base, then insulate and line out the interior myself when doing the electrical work etc. would I save much or anything by buying all the 3 x 2 timber and cladding and then building my own shed? I don’t think I will. With a kit everything comes cut ready to build and then I can add the waterproofing and sealant etc as I build it. This is a great video and it’s really helped give new the push I needed to build a bigger workshop this spring, so thanks for that! 👍🙌

Thanks 👍🏻 I understand what you mean I was in the same position. The main reason I built the shed rather than buying one was that I have no back access to the garden. If you have an interest in building your own shed, you might not save money although you will most likely end up with a better quality shed for a similar price. It's also more satisfying to build it and you can customise everything. I wouldn't worry about insulation until autumn comes that can be sorted out later on.

😁 Nice job Phill. Love the pallet floor. Such a cost saver. I have trouble finding lots of pallets that are the same, so I end up with odd thickness boards 🤨. Keep up the great videos mate 😁👍
@PhillWyattProjects
@PhillWyattProjects Жыл бұрын
Cheers Frank back then I must have collected dozens of pallets because I also made the garden fence with pallets which required a lot! I don't seem to be able to find pallets so easily these days maybe because of the price of wood now. Your Shed is looking great by the way 👍
@frankslittleworkshop
@frankslittleworkshop Жыл бұрын
@@PhillWyattProjects 😁 Yes, I remember the fence build. I think you are right. The price of wood has made it harder to get pallets. Everyone has realised that it can be useful wood. Hopefully I will make a start on the inside of my shed soon, I need to get it finished very soon 😁👍

Super duper project.I have a similar project.How to get old double glazed doors ? I am planning to have the outer and inner shell lined by OSB or Sterling board and the roof with polycarbonate roof material for allowing light. Between two layers of OSB I will line with insulating materials. I want to keep the coat of materials to £1000 and labour cost £1000 What was the cost of your project?

Awesome job mate! What was the foundation under it? Just gravel? Or concrete?
@PhillWyattProjects

Quick question, at 7:43 you mention putting aluminium bubble insulation throughout the interior walls and roof. Does that not defeat the breathability of the exterior wrap?
@PhillWyattProjects
@PhillWyattProjects 10 ай бұрын
I see what you mean although that all depends on how else the room is ventilated. I wanted breathability between the bubble wrap and breathable wrap so that moisture does not build up between them. This helps to stop moisture getting in. To let any moisture out of the main room, I use a trickle vent on the window. This works well and the shed is bone dry with no mould issues to date.

Would you not have been better adding the DPM UNDER the timber floor framework? as the timber will rot underneath the building gradually from being wet/damp etc.
@PhillWyattProjects
@PhillWyattProjects 7 ай бұрын
This was a consideration. Although, that way there would be no ventilation for the wooden frame to breath. I decided to put it on top which has worked well. It doesn't let any draughts in. The timber frame is raised up on slabs and has airflow underneath so I don't see why it would rot as its always dry under there anyway. It's been up over 3 years now and all is well with the floor.

Hi mate great video. Could I ask how much this set you back ? I know it was a while back but would be great to know
@PhillWyattProjects
@PhillWyattProjects Жыл бұрын
It was under 1k around £850 about 3 years ago. I tried to be as frugal as possible with it. Back then, the 2 x 3's that the frame is made out of only cost £2 each. They are probably double that price today.

How much noise reduction does it give? I'm building a workshop myself this year and just wondering how loud would it be outside to work with power tools (my neighbours are not the best 😂)
@PhillWyattProjects
@PhillWyattProjects 2 ай бұрын
I am not sure I can't say that I have measured the noise from the outside. If you need to soundproof then I would suggest putting some sound insulation slabs in-between the studs including the ceiling.

@@PhillWyattProjects would you be able to measure the noise of whatever a power tool even with a app on your phone please? I'm really interested in the difference between outside and inside noise. PS I have to say that you're a great inspiration to the community of DIY/woodworkers
