There was a time when I was one of 8 people who were desperately broke! My brother in law was the only one of us who had a job. He was the only one of us who had a vehicle, it was an old dodge 1/2 ton with an inline 6 in it.One weekend the dodge spun a rod bearing. The truck was critical, no truck no job! We found another engine that had a cracked block. We could scrape together enough cash for a gasket set but that was it! Between the two engines we got a running engine built that weekend. It lasted long enough that we all got jobs and and cars. I remember that we all expected to see that engine come apart every time it was started. The truck is still in the family. My brother in law has passed so his son got the truck . He has restored it and it still has the same type of engine. The original engine beyond rebuilding.

Tip When cutting wire for fire rings get an old tin can or piston ring compressor or other bit of tube that is a fraction larger than the ring groove then wrap the wire around it and cut the wire with a small cut off blade on a Dremel or similar device . Note if you get the size of the tube just right you can cut either straight or diagonal and the wire will fit perfectly.

Some gib adjustment may be in store for that DCM. I operated a 3800 DCM for over 10 years in a very harsh material removal environment. Believe it or not the worst scenario was a Dalcote Magnesium blower manifold that had taken a hard twist. Cutting through that coating was unbelievably difficult. Had to take a .020 pass to get under the coating. The largest detailed problem with these milling machines is the tilt in the cutter path or tramming of the milling head. Most often it’s misunderstood as a twist when it is the middle of the surface being lower than the two outer surfaces. So the area between the cylinders is actually lower than the rest of the surface. It was learned that the factory recommended tilt in the cutting head was twice what we could tolerate in our applications which were lock wire or steel hoop apps much like these. Obviously cast aluminum was friendlier than cast iron and some cast iron will beat your gibs into submission forcing gib adjustments before a final finish pass could be qualified. These castings are in no way consistent. It’s the casting and not the machine's fault. I’ve seen some superior CBN cutters that do seem to help the situation but those cutters were expensive and they had a very short cut life on harder materials. It is a very difficult situation to be in at times.

You know who would be watching this video screaming MINT 👌👌👌 😂 A 5.9 putting out 550-600hp that's gotta be pushing the limits. I wonder if it will live up to its name Cummapart 😄 You're lucky you've got a guy like Scott he does nice work it's done right.

I remember back in the day watching you swap the 4bt into your wife's Suburban and I remember that it ran great, but I think that this'll be ALOT of fun!

Badass video. Delron plastic works great for orings and doesn't tend to put a flat spot on them.
