Giorno genuinely hated Cioccolata so bad he even threw in a "wryyyyyyy" during the beat down. I don't think he's ever done that to anyone else.

During Cioccolata's introduction, it's explained that he is obsessed with death, because it makes him feel like he is above other people. So, his stand gets the ability that activates whenever he literally gets to be above others (when others get to a lower altitude). Plus, Green Day, the band, gets it's name from Marijuana. And when you smoke marijuana you "get high"

Ciocolatta is arguably more evil than diavolo. Diavolo mostly did what he had to but ciocolatta even at a younger age was horrid enough to coax old people into suicide and killing innocents with Green Day without a second thought. I can’t think of anyone better to receive the 7 page muda

Cioccolata's backstory kinda reminds me of a doctor who actually operated in Italy during 2011-2014. This man killed 12 people (old, defenseless patients who he deemed "unworthy" to be kept alive) overdosing them with morphine. He legit liked to call himself "L'angelo della morte" aka "The angel of death". He also had a lover/partner in crime who was a nurse at the same hospital... luckly this bastard was sentenced to life imprisonment

cioccolata legit said "aye bro can you spare me even though i literally committed multiple violent crimes that would literally get me the death penalty"

Make no mistake, DIO was evil from birth, but it was made worse due to suffering an abusive father that overworked his mother and disrespected her memory- leading to his murder, which while in the service of ambition, DIO was very traumatized by the experience that caused the insecurities of his being that drove his actions when not spiced with sadism. His crimes being heinous, but they had a valid reason for being so. Cioccolata on the other hand, apparently had a normal childhood and didn’t endure nearly what DIO did....yet he did those horrific things unprompted by trauma, motivated by pure curiosity of the most morbid taste. Cioccolata managed to out-evil the biggest source of evil in the series.

as much as a bastard as he is, i love him as an antagonist. plus the amount of research that mustve went into his ability and how he uses it mustve been exhaustingly worth it. also i learned about swango a few times so it was exciting to see the comparisons

FUN fact: "Rifiuti Generici" or burnable trash, in Italy is also called "Secco"

You say the whole reason Secco isn't affected by the mold is because he wears his stand, but Cioccolata expresses curiosity on whether the mold would grow on Notorious B.I.G., suggesting that he wasn't actually aware of the stand immunity factor. I'd like to think he once tried killing Secco with the mold, saw he was somehow immune, and only then decided to work with him, neither one of them realizing how Cioccolata's stand affects other stands. That's my headcanon anyway.

I'd actually like to see Purple Haze vs. Green Day. Wonder how that would go.

I always thought Ciocolatta had that name because dark chocolate, which could be called a more pure form of chocolate due to having more cocoa concentration and being less diluted with other ingredients, is actually very bitter, and you have to put milk and sugar so it actually tastes sweet. This could reflect how Ciocolatta hid his true nature as a doctor so he could do all those terrible things to his patients. And also his relationship with Secco, the one person which Ciocolatta likes , is associated with sugar.

Cioccolata was my favorite minor villain, and the Green day and Oasis arc is one of my favorite arcs in part 5(Second to grateful death and beach boy arc). Sometimes you want a morally grey, well fledged villian with a justified backstory, and sometimes you want disney villains on drugs!

Me and my friends refer to it a *8-Animator Muda* since it was revealed that this sequence in the anime took 8 animators by its own to complete, so I consider it yet another upgrade.

I think his ability is based on the fact that during a surgery doctors cant lower their hands cause it makes them unsanitized so they have to be always with their hands above the waist level

Here he is, the man with no humanizing elements. None of the camaraderie of La Squadra, the love between Squalo and Tiziano, or even the odd relationship Diavolo has with Doppio. He keeps Secco more as a pet or slave than a partner and as soon as he’s dead Secco immediately repudiates any notion that there was any genuine friendship. A sadist who manages to make Kira’s paraphilia from the part before seem downright wholesome. On the whole Chioccolata seems less like a person and more like a sane man’s personification of pure thoughtless evil would be like. So essentially, he’s a human equivalent to the Dark Eldar from 40k, except even the Dark Eldar have the excuse of needing to torture and kill people to survive.

Ok so, I feel like there’s a few more connections to Green Day as a band. Notably songs like “Walking Contradiction” on the Insomniac album, which is a song about an abusive authority figure reveling in being a living contradiction and knowing nobody can do anything about it. Cioccolata is absolutely someone who revels in being a sadist and inflicting pain on others but as soon as the tables are turned on him, he freaks out. (See: his interaction with Giorno before being pummeled.) Also lines like “So deep you can’t run away” and “hit and run and then I hit you again” sum up his fighting style pretty well. Then there’s “Welcome to Paradise,” on the Dookie album. The meaning could be twisted into growing to love the chaos and agony around you, but that might be a stretch. Awesome vid, I was kind of hoping this one would be made eventually. (Edit: spelling lmao)

2:40 Another thing to note, his hair also looks like the spike proteins (aka peplomer protiens) seen on spike viruses. This not only plays into the irony of Cioccolata being a doctor, but it’s interesting to note that some spike viruses (like influenza or covid); like green day’s mold spores, are airborne. (On a much simpler note, his hair also looks like mold spores which connects him to his stand for obvious reasons).

hey i know PHF isn't really canon, but coming from someone who beat someone for 7 pages, using his stand to extend that beatdown for what might have been literal years in Ciocolatta's mind, the statement that purple haze's virus gives people the most painful death imaginable is so fucking terrifying

YES!!! I knew you would sooner or later do a bastard on Cioccolata, the guy even makes Diavolo feel disgusted. When the guy who wants to kill his own daughter so no one can interrupt him when playing Minecraft thinks you are a heinous human being... you know you are a bastard. He is one of THE BEST villains in JoJo history, who never overstayed his welcome, the perfect amount of time for a memorable character.

10:54- Though in turn, makes Secco even more ungrateful and ironically worse for insulting the man who had treated him fairly when no one else would (even though it was a weird S&M pet/master relationship). Making Secco look like trash as well who discards his loyalties and decisions at a drop of a hat.

I think you're reaching with the basketcase = useless definition. Diavolo didn't hate to use him because he was useless/ineffective, it was the opposite. Diavolo uses him as a nuke. A last resort that will absolutely 100% get the job done and then some, while also causing a ridiculous amount of collateral damage. Diavolo trusts him to kill anybody he needs killed, he doesn't approve of his methods and doesn't trust him to stop at just eliminating the target.

The most evil bastard in the series except maybe Angelo.

I always thought Araki named Cioccolata ironically not just as "chocolate is sweet and he isn't" but because chocolate doesn't really rot or get moldy.

Cioccolata was actually really lucky the one member of Bruno’s crew he took down early on was Narancia. Aerosmith’s rapid fire projectile attacks, explosives, and radar, all from long range seems like it would hard counter Green Day.

I don’t actually think Secco was genuinely mad at Cioccolata. To me it read more as him filtering feelings of grief through anger as a coping mechanism. The two actually seemed to have a real bond.

Cioccolata is legit one of my fave characters in JoJo. The way he uses his Stand, his funny but slightly off putting dynamic with Secco, his brutuality; you love/hate to see it. Also, I assumed his name and Stand had some correlation with germination, which involves mold, which you can on milk and...milk goes into chocolate sometimes. I dunno, I didn't exactly think that connection through. >m>

Something I think you should have mentioned about Doc Choc's Name. The first step to making chocolate is fermenting cacao beans, exposing it to spores, bacteria, yeasts, and acids to stop germination and change the internal flavor from the natural bitterness to a sweetener taste. The other thing is that the most popular form of chocolate is in the form of bars, which can usually be segmented into smaller pieces for sharing and making it last longer, similar to how Cioccolata segmented his body to last longer against Giorno.

The thing I like about JoJo is that Araki takes the kind of characters who would have been made attractive and given a tragic past to excuse their actions in any other anime and rightfully frames them as the pieces of shit they really are.

I wanted to point out something. He is named after chocolate, which is usually seen as sweet and candy-like, but many dark chocolates are bitter and disgusting, showing the duality of Choccolata's attitude, being super sweet and nice to Secco, but bitter and vicious to Bruno's squad, as well as the rest of Rome.

My dad loves Green Day, wonder how he'd react to knowing one of his favorite bands inspired a monster made of mold.

I've been waiting to see this for so long :D! Ciocolatta is one of my favorite characters from Part 5 for how evil this mojo was.
