Gyokko is a character which Koyoharu Gotouge designed with the explicate purpose too be hated, from his sadistic torturing of innocent villagers to a backstory which showed he's never truly valued the lives of others. Him and Hantengu make a perfect pair of bastards to unleash on a unexpecting village of swordsmiths, I will eventually make a video covering them as well.

One of the most unrepentant demons out there. Gyokko is so sick in the head that he doesn’t even kill people before turning them into “art”. That scene where he just shows a literal child the mangled and fused bodies of his fellow swordsmiths and then twists the sword embedded in them to make them scream is all sorts of screwed up. I admit that he didn’t feel nearly as strong as he should have, but in the end it was still satisfying watching Muichiro shut him up for good

Also this makes 2 Bastards among the Upper Moons, difference is Doma atleast has the excuse he was born incapable of feeling emotions, Gyokko is just an asshole.

@@EmmanuelMarin07Hantengu knows he's a liar, a thief, a murderer, and pathetic. But he blames everyone and everything else, and expects everyone and everything else to cater to him. His only saving grace is his Emotion Demons. Gyokko is the other side, he accepts his traits, he knows he's a monster, that he doesn't blame others, he wants the recognition. Gyokko would've had a more interesting fight if he was at the actual hot springs or river. All his attacks, summoned demons, and true form are aquatic, yet he fought on land. It would've been cool to see if he had the power to teleport through bodies of water too, no matter how deep and could instantly disappear in even the reflections of water. Would've also helped if a more impressive Hashira fought him or if he fought the Love Hashira instead

Gyokko is such a cool and unique demon in my opinion ! I really liked his design and abilities, as well as his twisted personality. I wished we saw a bit more of him before his death, as perfectly hateable as he is.

Think it's kind of disappointing even with extended content in the anime we never got Gyokko's backstory showing that even as a human he was a scumbag. It's weird since all the other Moons get their backstories yet he doesn't. Felt like a waste.

As far as i know, Gyokko is not the only Moon whose backstory did not shown. Lower Moon 2-4 and 6 slaughtered by Muzan right after they introduced, Enmu's backstory never shown even though Mugen Train arc had extented content and two adaptation *SPOILER* it feels like to me Nakime's backstory won't shown too. When i asked a Japanese person The reason why didn't Enmu's backstory didn't shown in the movie and anime, he/she said in his/her opinion the anime faithful to manga, which is questionable to me because the studio added anime original scenes to Daughter Spider Demon's backstory and made completely anime original episode that dedicated to Rengoku.

Gyokko is one of the best villains, simply because of how evil he is, demon slayer creates many amazing characters, from ones you are meant to show sympathy for, to bastards like doma, muzan and gyokko

In the flood of villains created to be sympathetic and somewhat relatable Gyokko is such a refreshing antagonist, especially in Demon Slayer. It's just unfortunate he was killed so quickly. He had the potential to be an amazing standalone villain for an arc. And I'm gonna say it, his design is the best in the series. It's one of the best designs in anime period.

A little surprised most of the Upper Moons aren't completely malicious individuals like Gyokko and I mean people who were always evil from the start. Gyutaro and Daki were violent due to desperation Hantengu was either Mentally Ill or just a weak willed coward Akaza became a monster due to tragedies he had no control over Doma was literally born incapable of feeling emotions and raised by opportunistic parents Kokushibou became a monster due to a combination of an inferiority complex and fear he'd die before he turned 30 again due to something he couldn't control. Gyokko is just an asshole.

I always like a villain that fancies themselves an artist: Deidara and Sasori from Naruto, Tserriednich from Hunter x Hunter, and of course Gyokko all of which have a “unique viewpoint” of what art is. Good video, waiting on the Building a Bastard video for Hantengu

The scene I think is interesting with him was when he encounter that one swordsmith, he attacks him while he's making a sword and the guy doesn't flinch or pay attention to him, focusing on his craft, he attackins him again to the same effect, and then he comments on how the swordsmith is so focused on his craft that he's oblivious to the world around him, so Gyokko stops attacking him and watches him work. I think he even comments that he would have liked to have his level of dedication. I'm only really half remembering the scene since it's been a while since I read it.

Haganezuka, Tanjiros swordsmith. He was using his family's secret technique to define the Sun Breathers original sword for Tanjiro to use. Gyokko only feeds on the artists, so he can become a greater artist. He has high respect for them also, but also jealousy on how much focus they put in their art. He was amazed by the levels of commitment Haga was putting, which is why he stopped attacking, wishing he could reach that level of focus.

Something fun about the water pot, and about "The Great Waves of Kanagawa," is that both seemingly invoke a calm air about them. We see that the pot's victims become submerged in a way that they cannot fight back. To the outside looking in, this is a very calm situation, but from the inside it's absolutely deathly and terrifying. The same thing is true for the painting it draws inspo from. The waves seem to represent an aspect of nature that is calming to us. They look beautiful and anyone can hear the splashing of waves in their head as they view this piece. But if you look closer you see that this is not just a wave, It's a tsunami. There are people in those boats and the scale of the water is too big for them to survive. They truly are Great Waves. I don't know if this was an intentional parallel, but this is a well known theme of this painting in the art world. The masses view this work as a calming piece to be hung in the foyer, but it's not when you actually take a closer look. I would not be surprised if the execution of the water pot is a homage to this dichotomy.

Honestly one thing I always thought of when I saw Gyokko's walking fish connected to the pots was Junji Ito's "Gyo" The theming of fish that walk on land that dont die unless you destroy the thing attached to them keeping them going, and the general horror aspects. Especially with the one with the sharp claws reminding me of the claws of the fish in "Gyo"

His back story being from a normal village is strange, because the way he talks, his obsession with arts and even shape his attack to resemble his form of arts, is like that of those are from the higher class up brining, from the Heian period, so Noble with artisan skills. Also isn't odd how the Demon king is, actually "poor" and need financing? Like isn't the guy a former nobles during the Heian period? With his power, he could had easily migrates his family wealth elsewhere and uses them as investment assets to buy up business and profits from other people run business that he owns for him, without they ever knew who he is, consider he switch bodies, hick, he could had taken over dozen of warlord bodies during the Sengoku periods and profits from their sacked wealth. Some thing about the writing in accord to economic relationship make no sense. Like how the Family that sponsored the Demon core, realistically would be under financials insecurity, because what they are doing is not profitable, nor Benefitting to Japan Elite.
