All couples argue (IMO), but it is how you work together that counts. I feel that their relationship is more grounded than most, and they work well together. If you keep making video's I will keep watching.

You sure are right about that Ronald Ss. My grandparents were farmers and both worked very hard but seldom together. Grandma cleaned the house and cooked the meals and if she stepped out the door it was to work in the garden but You would never see her swinging a hammer or using a saw. They enjoyed life together but they both had clearly different rolls in making that possible. What was really even more amazing is they rarely had a day go by they didn't argue about something yet they remained married for over 65 years before grandpa past away.

You guys are my heroes. For your courage to undertake this entire project, I salute you. For your curious nature to learn so many new things to move this entire project along, I admire you. For your ability to overcome adversity no matter the difficulty, I laud you. For your strength and courage to keep working despite being exhausted, dealing with the need to make changes unexpectedly and still being mentally and physically able to carry on, I remain in awe of your determination. You have dealt with tough decisions, inclement weather, trouble shooting on a regular basis and an occasional critter issue, yet you continue on. Amazing! I pray that both of you will remain in good health and suffer no debilitating injuries while you continue the process of finishing your home and that you will still love each other when it is complete. I'm looking forward to the finished product that will be your home and that you will live happily forever after with Gods grace. Jane and her wacky sidekick Lola, the Boston Terrier I

Don't pay attention to those who are posting trolling comments. Watching you go through all of this is highly valuable for those of us just getting started on projects like this. Highly motivating. I don't know that I would be as brave! My husband and I are waiting for a beach lot to sell so that we can pick out our homesteading property up here in the Pacific Northwest. We have moved out of the house we were renting and are living in a 40' school bus that we are converting into an RV. The goal is to be able to just drive onto the land and live in the bus until we get our own house built. This is a lot like your journey in a way. We are taking this opportunity to evaluate our power/water/shelter needs so we don't have to wait until we are on open land. I couldn't believe how little we actually need! Anyway, keep it up! We are enjoying watching your progress. :)

You know.. I've learned something from this video.. If either of you had huge egos... or if you lacked complete love for each other, and if one of you was lazy, and lacked stick to it ness..You would not even be this far... Before I'd ever want to do this... I'd have to lose 30 years... find a perfect life partner... and be less lazy... Proud ... so proud of you two.

I think it's great that Jesse and Alyssa aren't trying to hide their mistakes to make their videos perfect. The good thing they're doing is letting others see their mistakes in hopes that someone can learn from them. Real everyday people learning how to do things themselves! Great effort you guys, thanks.

I just want to say that alot of you are missing the point of this series it seems. The both of them took this project on to build something for their life's. They aren't proffessional's, they make do with what they have. There is a million ways they could make life easier for themselves, but that is what their journey is about. Mistakes will be made. They will learn along the way. They share those mistakes with us! Be grateful for that! They show more humanity in showing us those mistakes than most ever could! They are dedicated to this build, dedicated doing it with what they have instead of going and buying a new tool every second they need one. To the two of you, keep up the hard work and thank you so much for sharing this journey with us!

Had the same problems with the ICF houses we built, but we had the luxury of finding the problem on the first row. So we shimmed the first row and spray foamed the gaps at the bottom. Then reinforced the bottom with lumber. Experience is what you now have. Keep going. The walls are very forgiving as they are solid concrete. as long as the wall isn't leaning it will work.

To you nay sayers, when was the last time any of you started a new skill and got everything perfect the first time? I'd say few if any of you at all managed to step into a new skill set and did a better job! Yes, they are not doing everything perfect, but the mistakes they are making are those that you know from experience not to make. They are earning their degree in the school of hard knocks. At the very least they are making the effort and keeping a smile on while they are plugging through. I applaud Alyssa and Jesse's courage to take on a difficult project and document it, mistakes and all.

alot of mean people in the comments, ICF is not the best option to build a house if you ask me, its kinda to late now, but do some research of foam concrete blocks, i have built 3 homes by hands, its simple and quick. it took me 1 month to build my small home, also keep it up! there will always be problems when you are building your first home, but dont worry everything will be okay but some is also a very expensive learning experience. take care and god bless from Russia!

well, my earth celler has 5 tons of gravel and dirt on top of it and the walls are concrete foam blocks its really tough material if it done right, mine has metal support inside them, one alternative what they can do on that retaining wall is to dig out alittle put some gravel and use spray concrete, thats a cheap and effective way to hold that dirt wall

You should go straight to work super early, skip lunch aside from a snack and siesta at 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Do your phone calls and computing during siesta, take a nap, eat dinner, then go back to work for a couple hours and come up with a gameplan for the next morning. 6am to 2pm then 5-7pm. Only mad dogs and Englishmen work out in the heat. You had my head hurting by five minutes into this one.

screwing things together has its place, but for instance connecting the diagonal braces to the steel pins I would opt to use 16D double head "duplex" nails. When done just pull the nails, let them drop and voila a done deal. Also another use for nails is what we called"grade nails. When done forming weather plywood or foam, set your laser at the heigth or top of the wall and stick nails from the outside toward the inside of the forms (icf). Then you float the crete to the top of the nails. Another good trick is to cut the mag float off at both ends equally to fit inside the forms, like minus a 1/2". Works great, the grade nails help with not having to cut the top of the forms to finish heigth! use that laser it is indispensable!!!

Hi guys this is in reference to watching you struggle with the drilling of concrete. My back ground i have been a carpenter since I was 17 ( I am 59 now) now I run building sites and refurbishments of old large manor houses for some very wealthy people. You will always struggle drilling in to concrete with the impact drill you are using they were designed for drilling soft brick or blocks like the aerated cilcon blocks we use in the UK. you need is an SDS hammer drill Like the Makita DHR 242Z it uses the same 18 volt battery's that you are all ready using, I have one and it's used all the time, I have had it for 2 years and not had a problem with it, and the fact that your house is going to be made of concrete you would find it a real boon when you start the fit out. I love watching the blogs and videos and the fact that you both work so well together keep your chins up and you will no doubt get the house you want. Kind regards Simon.s

It is good to look at doing hard work. I would also like to adviser you carefully about the properties of wood. All the wood is warped or distorted when the sun goes down. There is no way to twist, but when it is recessed, turn the tree over and sprinkle a little water to get it right again. So the tree should always be laid horizontally in the shade. Good Luck!^^

. You doing a mighty job. My heart goes out to you as I suspect you are over thinking based on your admitted lack of experience. Once you get all done if you built another you'd find these problems wouldn't be. It's like that first child, second child thing.

SAFETY ISSUE: When you put your scaffolding on between ladders - I keep seeing that the board end and the step of the ladder is very close. This could result in the board slipping off the ladder and having your wife come toppling down. PLEASE move your ladder(s) in more so the board is sticking out farther that the ladder step PLEASE.

You guys are making mistakes that is very on par for the first time doing a project like this. You guys are very enjoyable to watch. If it was perfect then it wouldn't be quite as entertaining 😁. Yes, us in the construction field, can see a lot of the mistakes coming, but it is already done by the time we watch them.Keep showing your trials and successes. I look forward to each episode. PLEASE BUY A CORDLESS SAWZAL!!!!! You will not regret it.

I am just trying to watch all the videos and get caught up. You guys are awesome to watch! My wife and I are hoping to do similar to what y'all are doing but not to the same degree. Keep it up! Don't listen to the haters and trolls. Some people just don't have a life and don't want anyone else to be happy since they aren't. I don't know if you have a video about it yet as I am trying to watch them in some kind of order but show us the "Pure Life For Living Established" sign. It looks cool. I know you are more finished but I am trying not to watch ahead. Way to go Jessie and Alissa!!!

It's a little late in the process to ask but why don't you remove a couple of ICFs in the front wall and bend some of the vertical rebar over sideways and make a gravel ramp over the footer until you finish the other 3 walls? I would think that not having to hump everything over the 16" high forms and around/thru the rebar would be a huge time and energy saver.

you should put caps on the bars you have in the ground for your bracing, pop a few orange ones on then from your rebar
