You should also block the rest of the joists several times mid span. I love the elevator idea. I destroyed my knees in the army so always prefer an elevator. A nice heavy duty winch and platform should help getting stuff up there. Maybe have it fit a pallet jack.

Hey just a heads-up in cold climes like yours you will have condensation buildup on the areas where the steel beams act as a reverse heat sink unless you have some sort of thermal block/insulation.

For comfort in winter time, consider putting an another layer of insulation around the loft - floor, walls & ceiling. Extra cosy when it's snowing outside! ☺ Looks really great and if I had the money, land and time, I'd be doing the same thing! 👍👌

Looking fantastic guys, it’s such a temptation to move in straight away when a new shop is built, without doing Epoxy floors and all the finishing touches, which would otherwise probably never get finished, when it’s a working shop, awesome to see where your journey has brought you all to 💯👏

How you do those corner caps is to leave little tabs for the underside so they overlap at the seams, and then you add a few strategically placed rivets.. Done. The package should have came with some painted rivets to match the screws. You want to overlap things just like shingles so everything stays waterproof. Silicone is your friend.

I don't know how far along you are with the elevator idea, but here's another thought. I used to be in the ambulance service, amd we transported this woman home who recently had been confined to a wheelchair. Their house was 2 story, with the majority of the rooms in the second story. Her husband was an engineer of some type, and after looking for a professional fitment of a made to order elevator (and their incredible costs), decided to make his own. In the end, he located the lift portion of a forklift which matched his specifications (width/height), and bought one second hand, and got a deal on a set without tines that had a hydraulic leak. For him the leak was a fairly easy fix, amd he fabricated a floor that fit in where the tines attached, and build up a box on the new floor, with a door that latched for safety. It was a nice fit in their entry way, and the elevator fit next to their stairs, and only lost a couple square meters of floorspace, which wasn't utilized much anyway. And being a lift from a forklift, it's weight capacity was way more than they'll ever utilize. Was one of the neatest home made solutions I came across for home access for mobility impaired people. Just thought I'd share incase you can use it. Especially if you're going to be storing heavy things like engine blocks up there in the loft.

The elevator sounds pretty cool at first but when you think about how much longer it's going to take in comparison to just using stairs I think it's going to end up being a pain in the long-run. Especially if you're planning on storing parts/hardware etc up there, 30 seconds in the elevator compared to 5 seconds on the stairs adds up to a lot of time if you're going up and down with any frequency. My money is they add stairs or another means of access within the year
