I'm form the States, and YES our stone-age measuring systems has got to go. But its gona cost a Gazillion dollars to replace it now. Aaand we have those "We are number one" people who say: We went to the moon using inches. To them I say? You also went in your dippers.. It got the job done.. why do you use a bathroom now.
@kefler187
@kefler187 3 жыл бұрын
@@iteerrex8166 I'm actually Canadian but default to mostly imperial units when it comes to most things. I keep both metric and SAE taps and die sets, but only keep stock of metric fasteners! Indicators are imperial, test indicators are imperial, calipers and micrometers; digital ones have both metric and imperial, dial/vernier scale ones are imperial. I was taught machining using imperial units and that's what I've known and used in machining for 20 years now so I doubt that'll change XD Bottom line, if it doesn't involve fasteners, I default to imperial XD You can imagine the shock I had when I started 3D printing and had to switch from imperial to metric for that XD

This is such a cool design, thank you for sharing this video! I'm also happy to see that you include your 'mistakes' and things you might have done differently, it's a pleasant change to see on these types of video where often such things would be omitted. This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I've just subscribed. Great job Phil!

OK... I must confess: I've watched them all. All the belt sander builds. I guess this also is the reason, why I got your video in my recommendations in the first place. But after watching 38 minutes, i've got to say: You earned a new subscriber. You're build outpaces every other belt sander. It runs circles around them. This is pure machine madness, better than a bought one. And It's actually doable. Thumbs up!

This is a very nice design for a belt grinder. I really like how it can pivot from 0° to 90° using the quick release handles. The thickness of the steel plates seems more than adequate to mitigate most vibrations that may occur during sanding/grinding. Your machining skills are great and watching you make these parts makes me want to get back into machining again. It was once a part of my job a long time ago, but I do miss it. Never thought I would say that, but fabricating things has its own reward. The process actually relaxes me in many ways. It's definitely therapeutic for me. I think your CAD design is awesome. A picture really is worth a thousand words and seeing the 'idea' up front definitely helps you to reassess certain things as you fabricate, so you can improve things on the fly. I'm anxious to see the final product. Great video!

I watched your "7 Lathe Upgrades" video yesterday [4/1/23], and it reminded me of this series which I couldn't resist watching again. It's one of my top 5 favorites and more than likely it's #1-since this is the 3rd or 4th time watching it. Ironically I'm not a machinist, but it scratches an itch-something I notice in many other comments. God bless.

A well made video and excellent machining work. I usually don't watch build videos all the way through, but just skip to the end to see the finished product. The reason is that most creators either have no dialog or just music. In my opinion, Voice Over videos are the most watchable for build videos. And you did an excellent job of that. Clear and concise, and you explained things very well. Almost too much detail, but an excellent job. Great editing. And your design is well engineered as well. Thank you. Looking forward the the rest of the series.

Hi Phil ~ I wanted to say that I, for one, prefer the longer videos in which you explain what you're doing. Not all of us are seasoned machinists, so your words are essentially clues for the clueless and, needless to say, a great way to help the hacks like myself learn more about fabrication and machine work. I've already liked and subscribed, so please keep making the informative videos. 👍

I like your neurotic approach to design and construction. I’ve bought a fair number of used machines over the years and I find I like the ones where the engineers used twice as much material as would have sufficed for the purpose and generally went way overboard in every aspect. I would like to build a similar grinder and am greatly inspired by your design.

How anyone can give a thumbs down is a wonder. What is there not to love about this project? Such a beautiful build. Wonderful KZfaq. Thank you for sharing your skill and your genius. I hope I’m Not too late to this party for a couple questions to be entertained. 1. Would the use of a machinist’s vise be more abhorrent if yiu were MUG welding because of the increased splatter that I notice when people are MIG welding vis-a-vis TIG? 2. I know, if I had free-hand cut those thread in the L-shaped bracket for the track adjustment i would need an adjustment for the cockeyed threads. Your hand skills are as impressive as everything else.

Long story short: my main field of profession was automotive. Then I moved to welding (all processes). After working for a fabrication for simple awnings my mind has been more open then ever. Machining is a goal I hope to achieve soon. So much measuring a precision it just call to me. And little by little I search up videos on KZfaq for inspiration and you my friend has gained a follower. Honestly I'm almost 30 years old and there is still so much to do with so little time. I'm hungry for knowledge in all trades electrical, hydraulics, measuring. I am looking forward to your next vid.
