“Sensible stocking levels” best piece of advice in the whole series so far! I would love to see a video specifically about appropriate stocking levels.

Really have come to appreciate this series. Lots of incorrect information out there on forums and such, and this is a welcome change. It's really nice to hear the facts from someone with some serious experience and historical knowledge. After 15 years on the freshwater side, I was able to migrate to saltwater thanks to this series. Got a 10 gallon reef going thanks to you. Keep it up!

Hmm, Am thinking third chamber for the heater. The reason is I plan to have filtration in the 1st and 2nd. 1st is course filter media, carbon and fine filter media. 2nd is another fine media just in case and what I can bio-balls. I will not use that foam rubbish they sent in chamber but I will be using a number of Aquarium Filter Media Bags with Zipper. The bio media they send will be used but I will place it in the media bags. Now, I heard what you said about the carbon. Not completely disagreeing with what you said but when starting a tank I happen to think it's a bloody good idea to make sure all of the toxins are removed so it can achieve stability. After the first 90 days then it can be removed as it should be stable at that point. Then it is used again on a as needed bases. As far as the sand, am thinking it should be about 3 cm (around 1.5 in). The reason is I plan to have some borrowing CUC that should go after the algae. So, this could cause issues with the rock as it could shift which is my concern. If I could fine some pad or alike to place under the rock I would place the pad, then the rock, and finally the sand. Still digging for something along those lines which is one of the reasons am listening. The rest is what have I forgot being out of it for 20 years.

I'm considering purchasing the Evo 13.5 tank and just discovered your very informative video's. I have to say thank you because you're not only showing how to set it up properly but aalso giving valuable advice for beginners like me to be successful! One question though - would it be helpful to leave the light off during the cycling process in order to combat algae growth?

Hi, thanks for the great videos! I'm moving to fluval evo 13.5 from a smaller tank that has been in operation for 2 months. Can you help me, what is the procedure to move everything from my old aquarium to a new one?

Hey Practical Reefkeeper, I started watching this series just as I was about to setup a Nano Reef Tank for the first time in 12 years. The episode on Live Rock completely sold me on this series. Going to get my premix saltwater and live rock today. Over here i can still get some Fiji Blue so I would like to ask what ratio of live rock to tank volume would you recommend? Keep up these amazing educational videos mate.

3kg in small pieces to suit your tank will be ample usually its recommended 1kg to 11 litres, but that would be overkill, bearing in mind some of your corals will come on small pieces of rock.

Just wondering for algae control as my house has been built with massive windows in each room would a UV steriliser be any good for controlling it or could it kill other bacteria?

I had a few things happening in my cycling process 2 weeks ago. My tank never showed any algea issues while showing clean and healthy ammonia, nitrate and nitrite readings. We dont have live rock shipping where I live so I had to use live sand instead. PS: my fire shrimp shed today 😍
@stuartfillingham7011
@stuartfillingham7011 4 жыл бұрын
Hmm when did you set the tank up? Cycling should show a spike in ammonia followed by a decrease in ammonia and a spike in nitrite. Then a gradual build up of nitrate as nitrite drops. Unless the tank has been set up a few months I would suspect cycling has not started yet as there is no nitrate showing. Hence no algae blooms.

Stuart Fillingham tank is 6 weeks old, already has 2 clowns, fire shrimp, zoa garden and a leather coral. All healthy so far, the leather is starting to grow a new stem on the side ☺️

Hi there, just a quick one for you I myself am from good ole UK, and I have been around the fish keeping for a long long time I remember my first tank L shaped wrought-iron with the glass in it but I'm getting off my????... I'm going to move away from the fresh water to salt water and this is the tank I'm going to be starting with.... I was thinking about putting bio orbs in the 1st chamber instead of the protein skimmer what's your views on that???.... Was thinking it would capture the bigger waste and be colonised with bacteria

Thanks for the advice of the North facing room, however, I live in the Southern Hemisphere and that isn't the right advice. Please remember that your audience isn't all from the UK.

Unfortunately my experience with my new Evo was a nightmare a waste of my time. The water was completely slanted I put it on another flat table and the floor, clearly the problem was the tank . Such a disappointment after mixing the water and adding live sand and rock now have to return it to the store so the company can resend me a new one. To be honest I don’t even want it Im upset I can’t get a refund I could have just went with a plain old glass tank with some aqua clear filter glass lid and clip light would have turned out better. 😒🤬🤬🤬🤬 if anyone wants a new fluval tank I would sell it .
