Great proof of concept I really like the heated inflatable forum, come up with a trailer with a refillable hopper to load a whole pallet of cement mix in ,a place for a larger air compressor,an scaffolding. A complete tow anywhere dome building kit on a trailer. A 30 ft trailer with every thing you need to build a Air- cret dome would be epic .

Stand on the ladder and have at least a couple friends handing you buckets, and also standing on different sides pouring, if possible. How exciting! We might end up in your neighborhood! Do you have any insight into the county regulations and codes regarding building structures like this where you are? Your insight is invaluable, and I’m excited to watch your journey continue.

Next time you have to make scaffolding, remember, triangles are the stable shape. If you had used some of your tubing to bolt on as diagonal bracing at the corners you would have given it a lot more stability in the forward/back direction and then you would only need guylines on the sides. Otherwise this looks like an awesome build. I love seeing it come into being layer by layer.

Ever think about hoop houses? Use cattle feedlot panels. They do canistoga huts, but I think walls for a dome can be built up by hand as long as you use bird cage wire on the feedlot panels and the job would be done quicker. After walls up cap it with a dome airform and build up the mass.

All you needed is some plaster A-Frame Scaffolds I used them for many years dong stucco on houses, they come in different sizes with an attachment that will get you 3ft. higher so in total you can reach 14 ft. and they are wide enough so you don't have to tie them off, you would only need 4 of these and could set one set in the middle then do the other set opposite direction to form a tee.

The next dome I make I will sew a dome shaped form, from what ever reinforcing fabric or mesh I use. I will inflate the air-form and slip on the reinforcing fabric or mesh before I spry it with cement. As for getting to the top of the dome I'm going to make a curved ladder that connects to a pole in the center of the dome with wheels on the bottom of the ladder to turn all 360 around. I think that will be the easiest and cheapest way to go.

Just a thought, tyvex is air permeable. If you could flip your form inside out, spray half with latex paint, let dry, then the other quarter starting at the bottom let dry then finally the top and let dry. Then flip the form and no heater unless you can ensure 60-70 degrees. Slower the cure, stronger the cement but you know this, patience bro. Also if you get old burlap feed bags (free) and lay up on the form it will give you something for the epic to grab. I think the tyvex is a great form but it's got no friction and if you hold it up to the sun, you will see the tiny holes that are not your friend (hence the paint idea). Keep up the good work. The Pinky and the Brain, Brain, Brain Brain lol, "Zort"!
@AircreteHarry
@AircreteHarry 4 жыл бұрын
It's okay that's it's permeable after the first layers or on the cement covers everything and stops the air from getting out. And the Tyvek makes the inside walls very smooth you can almost just paint.

Greetings Aircrete Harry from New Mexico, love your videos. I always thought of doing something similar but with lava rock as the aggregate for the concrete mix. It is light, has air pockets and could be lightly washed for an interesting texture. Have you heard of anything like that?
@tonitouchberry6257
@tonitouchberry6257 Жыл бұрын
My biggest concern is that lava rock is made up of glass and other harmful stuff that might be horrible for your lungs if it's ground up and other aircrete experimenters have found that sand breaks up the bubbles too much and is heavy and sinks. Don't know what Harry has to say but this is "my" logical answer!
@jopalolive
@jopalolive Жыл бұрын
@@tonitouchberry6257 I did not know that lava rock is composed of glass. I think any masonry product that powderizes, or becomes airborne, is not good for the lungs, do not see that happening as it is wet mixing and afterwards the concrete sets. The sand as it is being churned could definitely wear the edges of the lava rock, I think the majority of the rock would be intact, but that is an assumption that is why I asked. Gravel is heavier than lava rock, and it does settle or sink a little. Thank you for the response, you have given me something to consider. If it breaks up into too small of chunks it would lose it's redeeming quality of the insulating air pockets.
@tonitouchberry6257
@tonitouchberry6257 Жыл бұрын
@@jopalolive Hi!...ok my friend...mix up....not talking about lava rock and sand together... and good point that lava rock is lighter...But...truly I am purely looking at logic and not actual experiment...so bare with me!! Air pockets are the common demonater. If lava is crushed like sand...deal done! Just glass dust. MAYBE..... left in small or even larger chunks??? Used as an abrogated like 1 inch rock....maybe!!? But larger might sink......sooooo......perhaps weighting the difference between aircrete and lava rock might....might.....keep it suspended! I'm 77...don't have time nor energy to do it all. Let me know how you do? I'm excited to hear the results! We need, in this world, a better means for the common human being to survive in their shelter! We can do this ❤

Did you ever consider using a fiberglass chopping gun? I'm thinking it would stick well to the dome right after the concrete spray. It may be quicker than the mesh and may be stronger. (Or a combo of the 2) For a dome like this ..I'm thinking you need all the structural stability you can get. Kudos to you for thinking outside the box.

I would think any shape could be created. You could use reusable inflatable house forms. Kind of like those inflatable kid jump houses Once inflated put a covering over it so the cement doesn’t stick to it.

Could the Tyvek balloon form bags be replaced with a special made Tyvek bag where you create right angles? I know my idea is counter productive according to your building techniques. An altered Tyvek bag form. Too bad Mylar is not a strong enough material to alter the initial forms...But cut panels can be melted together by making sealed seams with heat. In my past, I made 3-D models for amusement park rides. They made sprayed cement structures using the models as a visual prototype. The models were foam cut and sculpted to a 1/2" scale. They represented cavernous rooms for a ride. I never saw the end result since I was stuck in an office building making models. My superior saw all the construction and end results. I do remember following an architects blue prints and discovering a scale mistake...After the concrete cavern had been made. They sweat bricks the day I discovered it. Fortunately, that person did not loose their job. However, there was lots of demolition and construction to correct the problem. If I was back in Ancient Greece when I discovered this, I may have been killed. Just kidding. The Bearer of bad news. Yikes.

Intrepid scaffold system, but so that we can get future videos of you building rather than in a hospital bed you could make 4 tall tripods from lumber, roping the base of the legs together to stop them spreading out and join the tops with beams, then you can span the beams with an ally ladder covered by a board anywhere to get to any section of the dome

Thanks Harry! Is there a conflict in heat and cold expansion problems that would cause cracking in the different types of concrete mixes when they are next to each other. Like ...a thin layer of epic mix shot Crete and then a thick layer of aircrete? Does it matter if the mesh is imbedd in the outer layer of the aircrete and then plain shot on top of the aircrete without actually touching the mesh?
@AircreteHarry
@AircreteHarry Жыл бұрын
For the Double-Shell Aircrete Dome hasn't shown any conflict in heat / cold expantiion. For the Mesh layer is used on top of the Air-Form directly. For the Mesh provides great support for when spraying the mix on. It gives it a grip & you can spray much faster and more on top of the Structure. As for the Air-Form alone, you would need to take time spraying. If sprayed too much at a time, it may start to simply slide. Therefore Mesh is very recommended. It is the Key for Strength, Grip & Faster Work. 👍 Putting a Mesh on the outside of the Aircrete and then spraying a stucco on it - is a great way to finish it. All available on my website as well. Cool shit man! I always called this spray crete not air crete however. So I was expecting you to make the dome out of air crete rather than spraying it so I was suprised to see how you actually did it. Very fun. What's the cost of a building like this?
@AircreteHarry
@AircreteHarry 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I got into Aircrete as an inexpensive way to build a dome home. This Dome was an experiment of building with the EPIC cement mix. EPIC by itself is much stronger than Aircrete just a little more work to make and a little more cost to make then Aircrete. My next dome build will have Aircrete, EPIC and a new cement mix I'm experimenting with. I think will be the best way to build a dome fast strong using Aircrete for my insulation.

Yes, indeed, the Tyvek housewrap is going to be reused. I actually already removed it, which left me with very smooth walls on the inside. I removed it by drilling a small hole in the EPIC cement (where we'll have our door) then I pushed a rebar through the hole, to push the Tyvek away from the wall. Afterward I cut a larger hole with an angle grinder. Next videos to come will show that! Thank You My Friend!!
