Bio -
Phil Daru is the Head trainer for some of the top athletes in the world and creator of Daru Strong Training Systems and founder of Daru Strong Performance Center. Daru has degrees in sports medicine and exercise science from Alabama State University where he played division 1 football. Holding certifications with Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) Certified Functional Strength Coach (CFSC) Functional Range Movement Specialist (FRCms) and Kabuki Movement Specialist (NSCA-KMS).
Daru then began a career in MMA and turned professional at 21 years old where he then developed his own systems for training fighters. Daru has also competed in strongman, bodybuilding, and Bjj Gi and No Gi and currently competes in powerlifting. He has worked with well over 200 plus fighters including world champions like Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Dustin Poirier, Edson Barboza, Junior Dos Santos, Frankie Edgar, Tecia Torres, King Mo Lawal, Andrei Arlovski and many others. Coach Daru is a two time award winning Trainer of the Year for the Florida MMA Awards and Nominated for the Trainer of the Year for the World MMA Awards. He has been globally recognized for his contributions in combat sports performance and has traveled to over 10 countries teaching and mentoring. Turning 50 in two months. For the last year and a half, I've focused on developing strength and mobility in my feet and hamstrings and it has leveled up my athleticism in leaps and bounds.

Foot strength is neglected. It's like putting good tires on your car. Makes everything better. Couple years ago I worked with a trainer for a few months. Did everything barefoot. After the first few weeks he asked me what I noticed most and I awkwardly said of all things my feet feel so much stronger and more stable. His face lit up like a kid on Christmas morning.

Fractured my right foot 4th and 5th metatarsal 8 months ago. This video couldn't have come at a better time. I need to strengthen my foot now that it's been healed. It may help prevent future foot issues 🙏🏻

6:46 Been doing this one for years to (successfully) fix my over-tight ankles/feet and knees. One progression I recommend, when one is ready: when fully seated back on the feet (comfortably) gently rock the weight of you hips side to side, adding both more emphasis on a single foot, while also adding a gentle torque to all the stretched tissue.

Phil, I've been trying to explain the transition to minimalist shoes to my clients for years, the most common pushback I get (~75% of the time): "I have no arches! I need ARCH SUPPORT. How could I ever wear something without arch support?" I have my own pitch, but I'd like to hear your response. Thank you for this excellent deepdive on this important topic. Just what I needed. I’ve been having feet problems for several years now. Planters fasciitis, fallin arches, and I even landed on my right foot and broke bones a year and a half ago. Now my right foot likes to kick out when I walk and the arches are both bad. Can this work help bring back my arches? Really bring them back? Or is it a permanent issue? I would love to have a fix other than arch supports. Thank you for sharing all your wealth of knowledge. People like you that share your talent and knowledge are a true gift to society!!

Very interesting. Trying the exercise i discovered that i cant move the big toe seperately from the other toes. What can i do tò increase big toe mobility?

What if your toes are curved or messed up from tight shoes in the past? Is there a way to fix that, noticed stiffness when doing these stretches
