Concerning the Nether - you probably know that distances in Nether to Overworld are 1:8. So if you want to get far in the Nether you'd need to go 8x times that far in the overworld.

If you need to make torches and don't have coal, you can burn logs in a furnace to make charcoal. charcoal can be used just like coal.

A trick with mushrooms, put 4 spruce saplings down together, bonemeal to turn ito a large spruce tree, that will turn the ground into podzal. Then you can plant your mushrooms on the podzal, bonemeal and collect as much as you want.

Love the new episode to answer your question about if the dark oak will grow you are going to have to plant them in a group of 4 for them to grow. Single dark oak will not grow.

Since you’re on Java now you should learn about the F3 menu. You can aim at a sapling and see what stage of growth it is at. And you can aim at a block and a see what the light level is. There is so much information on Java that bedrock doesn’t have.

Composting is fine, but BONEmeal is easy'r to get from another source.

Look up a moss bonemeal farm. It takes a bit to set up but you can generate infinite bonemeal, moss blocks, moss carpet, and azalea bushes. Great farm to have.
