What I use to help defuse the LEDs so they're not so defined is by using frosted plastic from plastic milk jugs. It defuses the light, the further away the LED is from the plastic, the better the defusion. What you did looks VERY good, just a tiny bit more defusion to more match the TV show. I grew up watching the show, so I'm drooling for this kit as well as the one from Jason of Star Command - if such a model exists.

imo one of THE iconic tv sci -fi ships along with the shuttles/sky fighters from "V" and possibly the most iconic of all The Eagle ships from Space 1999

I remember that series, it was fun to watch. Loki was on there I think, and Dr. Smith. Your kit is rare and built professional. If you build Tabors Emporium ship, id like to know where to find one. Thanks.

I remember watching this show in my youth. Looking at the front end of the Seeker looks a lot like the front in of the Ark II. I guess it's a 70's look for future vehicles. But in any case, this came out really nice. Well ok after watching to the end of the video I see you addressed the fact why they look so similar.

lol both shows were fun .... and the seeker model is the arc with a pair of toliet tubes tacked to the back end and a engine fairing slapped on .... not much else

OMG I remember watching this show when I was a kid. Something like Jason of Star Command and this one at the same time, or maybe a spin off? I made a seeker out of Lego's!!!

I would like to ask director Kenneth Johnson if he took any inspiration from Space Academy Seeker's when thinking of design's for the Visitor shuttles and sky fighters in "V" because as kid of the 70's i definitely noticed it as teenager in 83 watching "V"

I recall lots of streamlined designs back then. I remember the Sillouhette minivan from Pontiac looking that way for example.

Nice creation .... but -- if I may? Consider doing some Martin Bower-like weathering on this model. It strikes me that these showrunners on these cheapie shows made these models too damn clean, and thus, more unreal. D.A.
@InterstellarModeler4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments. Yes I agree, they should've been more weathered. I thought about it but I thought I would go with a look that viewers would remember. Appreciate you watching.

The front of the Seeker was the re-used front end from the Ark II. They recycled a lot of set pieces back then to help keep costs down. I have the entire series of Space Academy on DVD and always loved watching that show when I was a kid. Loved the fact that Johnathan Harris was the "Commander" on the show!
@InterstellarModeler5 жыл бұрын
Yes that's absolutely correct. I myself was so disappointed when ArkII was cancelled. I personally liked that show better mainly b/c I had a young teen crush on the actress who played Ruth LOL, but who didn't. I also found Space Academy entertaining. And yes...how can you go wrong with J Harris. Thanks for watching.

You could use a graphite pencil and those measuring tapes used for fashion designs. If you mess up on the line you could just wipe it off and start over. When you are satisfied, then you could use the scriber very slowly using the pencil line as your guild.

Cool ship, you can add the 5mm flickering led to the 2X 3mm led by twisting the end's of the 2 X-3mm together .then add the 5mm flickering led to the end of the 3mm positive wire of the 3mm to the negetive wire of the 5mm flickering led .now you use the positive from the 5 mm flickeering led and the negitive wire from the 3mm leds , this will give you the flickering effect that you want. All you need to do is put black shrink tube over the bulb of the 5mm flickering led to light block it .I hope this helps you.

Great job on this resin Seeker kit. I too recall the J. Small model. Was Small's model made by vacuformed plastic or was it too resin? Does any know the tech specs of Small's kit version vs this Lunar Model's 8 inch, resin made kit? Seen recently someone on YT has made a vid of his "fully loaded interior / and illuminated" Seeker model. Not certain which model kit he's constructed.
@InterstellarModeler Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure the Small model was resin. As for the one with the interior, that is a 3D printed model that was built by Randy Cooper. If u want more info, I’d leave an inquiry at his KZfaq channel. He can provide info on where to order.

Is it just me, or does the Seeker look a lot like a kit-bashed Ark II body?

When Ark II was cancelled they used parts of the Ark to create the Seeker.

Hot Damn! Brings back fond Gen X memories to my 49-year old heart! Yes the show was silly and some of the characters were rather, dare I say it, Gay! But over 40 years ago, it was an interesting show that made use of some obvious, but well designed model work. Oracode, Chris!

Love it! Remember that show as a kid. When drilling the resin did you have any issues with it breaking off more than anticipated? I have a kit i would like to do some modifications to but concerned I'll break it. Maybe it's more the quality of the resin? Thanks as always!

Space academy never aired in the UK as far as I know. Is this kit made from blown styrene or is it a stronger material?
@InterstellarModeler5 жыл бұрын
It's actually a solid resin kit.
@westrew636 жыл бұрын
Never assembled a resin model. What would be a good resin model to practice on? Thanks Ron
@InterstellarModeler6 жыл бұрын
Hmm that's a good question. Actually this particular kit is a simple one to work with so it isn't a bad one to start. There's a website called Federationmodels.com and they sell a variety of resin Trek kits. My first kit ever was the Nova class starship from ST Voyager. It's still available if you go their site > models > Alliance and scroll down. You'll see it along with a bunch of others.
