Hey guys, we've been reading all the beautiful names that didn't get approval when naming your babies :-) but surely hope you consider these when naming your next (there's always another one hehe)

I'm a South African and here the younger generation (post 80s) usually gives their children names that are African.Being black and giving your child an English name i now considered very old fashioned and sometimes a mockery.Kids laugh at each other for having English named.English names were a thing in the pre 80s era and that was mostly so white people in apartheid era csn pronounce your name.I also think that as Africans we need to love and embrace our languages and cultures and be proud to not have names of Eurocentric decent.

So about my name.. my mom tells me I was supposed to be called Yvonne..but when they went church the priest said no...apperatly those were names for musicians. By then the South African singer was a hit.

I think there is often a misunderstanding though that Christian names are English - they’re not, Christian names refers to biblical names which are all Hebrew names. In the same way that if you’re Muslim, then you’re likely to have an Islamic rather than Christian name. The choice to have a “faith” name comes down to how much you want your child’s identity to reflect their religious upbringing as well as passing on names of family members.

The Islamic naming with all the stigma were we live my auntie named her last child a name that will not raise that stigma it’s sad but parents who live in the US have to think about it ..... my baby girl is Asante 🤗 but am the only one who calls her that she has five names lol 😝 but I like the Pan African Spirit the Barak Obama thing 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
