Just tried this mod this last week. Awesome! Thank you. Once past 45 years of age, simple things can get bothersome. This mod relieved quite a lot of end-of-day lower back pain. Highly recommended.

LIFE SAVER!!! After having my son and having back issues bending down is overly exhausting and I got step ons to help and rode them for the first time this weekend but bending to get that outside latch is next to impossible for me so I have to fall to my knees to release everytime and I kept saying “I WISH THEY WERE ON THE INSIDE!” And you just saved my knees!! Thank you so so sooooo much!❤❤❤

Dude, it's extremely useful! If you have one of your legs not binded - you can pull a lever on locked leg using your free leg. No bending! With this mod it's super convenient!

I love that people are figuring out ways to make these even better! I fabricated a D- ring pull handle that is connected to the top of the highback to release the binding. The D-ring is connected to a bicycle brake cable (and spring) that is connected through a drilled hole in the release latch, so I just have to reach the top of the highback, pull the d-ring and step out. WAY less bending over and trying to fidget with the lever! You have inspired me to make a video about my mod!

Genau was ich auch als Problem habe und hatte das genau so auch angepasst und ist so wie es soll. Hammer diese Idee und so einfach, dass nicht mal Burton auf Anfrage eine Lösung anbieten konnte. Jetzt fehlt mir nicht mehr die nötigen 5 cm bis zum Rigel. Gruss Marcel aus Arni CH

Thanks for sharing the good idea. I'm 70 years old and not ready to give it up yet. Bending over to strap in has gotten really tough so I went for the Burton step ons but I am still having a tough time reaching the heelside lever to step out. I just made this simple switch and I'm going to give it a try. It seems alot easier just trying it out on the floor. One concern is that skating or getting off of the lift, you might step on the lever accidentally and put it in the down position before you step in. At least you can see it better on the inside. I might put some red tape or paint on the lever tip so it stands out and i can see the position it's at. If this doesn't work for me I'm going to give that pull cord addition a try.

Steve Haynes That’s amazing, I’m glad to hear you’re going to give this a try! So far I have not heard any complaints from people or close calls with the lever from anyone. Someone emailed me over the weekend telling me that they love the lever on the inside because it feels more natural for them to pull the lever and then move the heel towards the inside to get out. Made it out to Bittersweet last week with the lever reversed. I'm going to be honest and say, I think I'm just too big and inflexible for it to make a difference. When the levers were on the outside I had to drop to my knees to get at them. Same thing in reverse. We'll see as the season progresses (if we actually get one) if it gets easier. I might need some yoga; I'm not going to knock the levers, its all me.

@@themidwestshredder i would rather not ask you this on your you tube channel but what do you think about spraying "Rustoleum Never Wet" on boots and binding?. I have read some guys do this.. Have you heard anything about that?

@@oevadsun I’ve heard of people spraying that on top sheets of snowboards too but I’ve never done that or know anyone who has done that. I haven’t had a reason to really do it 👍🏽

Love that tip as I'm a middle aged rider with arthritis in back and hips and this would make it so much easier to reach. That was my last concern. Watched rest of your tubes so now going to buy for next season. I currently have NX2 Flows which vastly improved my flex issue and are great. But still find it hard to grab the back rest when on the ground. I even used a linked pair of carabena's hooked to the top of the back rest then to the main part of binding. I called it the Rob Grab. Not a new jump hold but an arthritic middle aged binding grab.Then twisted a twisty metal piping around strap between carebanas so stands up and can grab and then pull the backup on my right binding only as that was the difficult one to reach, when my front foot in. Still a faff so step on is next move for me removing all faff. Ill defo switch catch to insides.

Midwest Shred vlogs the thread locker is used to prevent corrosion on the threads as well so even if you’re not worried about them loosening up put some blue back on them johnnies. Just an extra tip for everyone.

@@dsd-downshiftdave8056 Love the bindings. Have kept the levers on the outside. My only issue is with nicely padded gloves, it's tough to grab the lever to release. More often than not, I pull off my glove and release with bare fingers.

Great video, but I would not use the thread locker. Did the lever modification and after a day of riding wanted to go back to default location. Can't get any of the bolts out as the nuts on the inside of the bindings just keep spinning. Thread lock is doing its job. Can't get them lose. I guess I'll just keep the levers on the inside now. Thanks.

The screws come with blue thread lock on them from the factory. You can use it safely. The reason the screws and the nuts are spinning is because they are not in the proper position. The nut on the inside has a square shape that fits into the square portion of the binding. That's what stops it from spinning in place. Push it into the square space, hold it there, and then loosen it. You shouldn't have a problem.

Are the bindings foot specific(L VS R) and that is why you need to do this switch rather than just mounting them accordingly?

Question, thanks in advance for any help. I did the mod and everything looks good I'm just wondering if the screws that we took out and put back in should move when the high back is being pushed down or when the high back is being pulled up? I can get them tight but loose enough they don't move really maybe a little or should they be tight, tight and the high back should be a little harder to push down or pull up? Would love to hear from someone soon! Or did you guy's use lock tight?

Hey tighten them enough where the screws are nice and snug and the high back isn't super hard to push up or pull back up. When you move the highback up and down, the Phillips screw might move a just a tiny bit but shouldn't move a lot at all. From your description, it sounds like you have it right.

I am going to try this as I fractured one of my wrist and had hell of a time reaching the level with the other hand. Does it interfere at all when you skating having loose foot on the board?

Question on the high back on step on bindings. Can you align the high back parallel to your board once you adjusting your degrees on both the left & right foot.

Jae Salenga hi Jae! The Step Ons don’t have any rotational adjustments with the highbacks. Reason for that is that the rear locking mechanism is on that highback. If we were to rotate the highback, it would throw the alignment off with the front cleats. Not sure if that makes sense.

@@themidwestshredder If you do not use much or any forward lean you can use one of the forward lean screws to put pressure on one side of the high back and it makes it feel flush (hope my explanation makes sense). The bindings already come canted 1 degree.

The highbacks are curved for left and right. They aren't interchangeable. Does this affect riding?

The upper portion of the highback is curved. You’re only switching over the lower portion with the release lever. The curved highback pieces are staying in the same location. It works.

The release lever was moved by the footrest on the lift, my board fell off and landed base down and started down the hill, luckily it traveled about 100 ft and stopped in a tree well, needless to say I am doing this mod.

Another question. What are thoughts on going a size up on burton step on boots? I’m confused because I went two different authorized Burton dealers. I felt one representative was more knowledgeable and measured the width of my foot being 4 inches and suggested I go with a size 10 as oppose to my natural size 9-9.5 range. The concern is when these boots break in, will I have too much play. The initial concern was the hot spots but over time when the boots break in, I’m afraid they may run too loose. In need of your opinion

Jae Salenga Hi Jae, this is a tough question for sure. I can see why they both gave you different answers. The problem is that all of our feet are so different and none of us will be able to predict how your feet are going to react. I size down half a size and I love the way my boots feel. They fit nice and snug and I have never had any problems with hot spots. I have the rulers and the photons and no issues. I’ll tell you what though, I’m going to the US Burton open on Friday. I’ll ask someone from Burton this question for you and I’ll let you know what they say. What size boot do you wear right now? 9 or 9.5?

Jae Salenga i did ask a burton rep and he said the best way to go about this is to try a set at a demo. Kind of like I told you, it’s too difficult to predict how someone’s foot will react in a boot. We’re all just different. For me, I normally wear a 9.5 DC and I ride a 9 burton boot. I like the way they fit nice and snug.

Cool mod - might try it although I think for me it's easier to reach the outside of the bindings rather the inside (natural position of the arms).... Also, I think that the 'danger' of someone accidentally pulling your lever on a chairlift is higher when the lever is on the inside (shorter distance to reach and a bigger leverage)

Mike Solo yeah i agree. I like mine on the outside as well. As far as the accidental release goes, what you said makes a lot of sense. That’s why Burton put it on the outside. Even with the lever on the inside, it’s very unlikely that someone will hit it and cause it to release. Anything can happen, but it’s very unlikely. Mike, you’re a smart dude 🤙🏽

The bindings also come with a leash, so even if someone were to hit the lever your board is still attached to you. Its up to you to wear the leash tho.

My release lever is NOT staying up, so that I can step into the boots. I have to keep it up to step into the boots. How can I fix that?

The lever shouldn't stay up when you step into the boots. The lever should be down. Just step on.

I have my levers in the normal spot. Some people feel it’s easier to grab from the inside.

I just bought the step on system and I’m going to buy my first snowboard. I live in Florida and I go once a year to Utah to snowboard there. I’m an intermediate snowboarder that likes to go fast and ride between trees sometimes. Im starting some small jumps now. What board do you recommend for me? Thanks!!!

Hi Mauricio, that’s a tough question. There are so many awesome boards out there. Do you like to ride switch too or mostly one direction? Do you plan on being more in the park in the future hitting rails and jumps?

Can you share with me how to get out of step on when you are stuck in very deep powder? I found it very hard to get out. Do you have any tips?

Jerry Chiu bring the board close to you and clear as much powder as you can. Pull the lever and at the same time turn your back foot (to disengage the cleats) and with your front foot push the board away. Once you can get the back foot out, the front should be much easier to disengage.

If there is thread lock on something reapply. Wait 24 hours before moving the bindings after application for it to dry.

I've actually seen a guy kick the front foot release lever to the tip of a chair lift foot rest pipe and loose his board. This was back in the day when K2clickers were en vogue for a brief moment. (Levers on the inside) Obviously the dumb fuck didn't wear a leash as per resort regulation. Luckily the falling board didn't hit any one - but He sure did walk a long way in the deep snow to get it back.

Scott Magruder i doubt it. It works just like stock. It’s such a simple modification that you can put it back to stock really fast.

Thanks for the mention, decided before i travel in a few days I would again look at the pro's and cons of moving the levers from the outside to the inside, also found another video showing a lever mod that makes life even easier. Moving the levers inboard will make bending to release the boots easier, however raising the levers higher really is what is needed, after seeing this mod i had to have a go although i did mine without drilling (so reversible for now) if this proves good I will add P clips etc and tidy the mod up as per the video that inspired me. @@themidwestshredder the foot that is out is typically placed against the inside of the rear binding while coasting does it not? At least that was the reasoning I was given for the design purpose of the lever on the outside

@@justinkayce9811 when you’re skating on flat area, most people put their foot on the board and rarely against the highback. If you put it against the highback, that should be very light pressure. When you’re coasting, yes some people put their foot against the highback, but most of the pressure is applied downwards towards the board. That’s how you’re steering the board on the toe or heelside. That light pressure you’re applying against the highback is not a lot. It won’t damage the binding. Just fyi, Burton has made this modification for some athletes with disabilities.

I'm not sure if this would actually help. If someone is really that stiff that he/she can't reach the lever in original position, it might be better to do some yoga etc. to improve the mobility of him-/herself and would improve life quality and snowboarding in general too. In my opinion, the binding has the same possibility of unlocking whilst in chairlift whether the lever is on the inside or outside, and there's a way faster solution for that; use the strap that was provided with the bindings and use it every time you're attached to the board. Therefore, if by any magical reason you'd mess up and the board would come off the shoe, it'd be still strapped in it. I've never had any issue with the binding though.

Markus Korhonen believe it or not, it does help people. I agree about stretching but while you and I can stretch into all types of different positions, some people can’t. For example, people who have had back injuries or older people. I’ve had multiple people tell me it’s better for them. As for the leash, I don’t use the provided leash because no one is accidentally hitting it on the lift. Never even come close and I’ve been on tons of full lifts.
