One of the key distinguishing function that differentiates a Business Analyst from a Project Manager is the practice of researching and discovering the requirements of a system from users, customers, and other stakeholders i.e. "Requirements Elicitation". One of the trainee got confused here as Requirements Gathering is different from Requirements Elicitation. This function should have been in slide no. 7 otherwise the overall presentation is valuable and informative.

Hi I enjoyed the class and it is very informative. Thank you for doing this. But, I have an advice, Their were a couple of questions by the fellow listeners about an example of an ERP system, and how the business analyst would be able to explain about the ERP requirements to the customer and the technical team. In my example, we can use SAP. SAP is huge and we have to customize the system based on the customers requirement. If a BA comes from non sap background, how would he be able to convert the technical language to the customer language. Some times, when we sit with the ABAB Developers it is difficult to understand their language, and it gets even tough to explain it to the customer. Therefore, is the only solution to this - Is to have Domain Knowledge ( But how deep can we know in SAP, because its an ocean) , or is it just that , we have to ask every little question to the ABAP Developer , basically not be shy and ask them everything and anything until we are clear? Another question, the PM involvement in any Changes in the Development. So, as per my understanding, the PM will only be involved when the project plan is getting delayed or is not as per the track because of this particular change/ risk raised? My current Project manager sits with us in the Change Meetings, RAIDD Meetings ( for huge risks) along with SME's, BA and ABAP Developers. He basically is the decision maker for the change. Any change that is required in the project must be signed off by him, because he should answer the executives. Is this the right process? I am not sure if i have got your answer right, because in this video, you told us that, PM is way too busy to get involved in this kind of meetings. But if a change involves project delay and cost of money , then it is important for a PM to be involved. Please advise. Thank you again for the video.

Thanks Anija. Good to know that you liked the video.. Regarding your query about making changes and handling requirements in SAP. Typically, just like any other software application, a business analyst (Functional consultant in SAP environment) does not need to know about the programming language (be it ABAP or Java or .net). Your job as a BA is about translating the business requirements to a language, an ABAP developer can understand. Similarly, once it is completed by ABAP developer, understanding it from the developer and conveying it to the customer (again in their language), is BA's responsibility. Now, in order to do so, BA does not need to understand ABAP but must understand the SAP module, in which the work is going on, be it FICO or projects or HR? Isn't it..If we consider a BA to know programming language, we are restricting his/her scope of work to limited projects. That's not the way, it is supposed to work. As far knowing SAP modules (or what you are referring to domain knowledge), a BA must know it, there are no two ways about it. Saying SAP is Ocean, so is banking, Insurance, Finance etc. The fact is that developing strong knowledge does take years and it's natural.There are no short cuts

The second question was about the PM involvement in change meetings...Let's clarify it...A PM is the overall in-charge of the project and has the final responsibility for the project. So, PM will always review the impact analysis of every change (Cost, timeline and effort). The approach could be different depending on important. PM can be physically present during the discussion or will review the impact after you as a BA finish it...But in every case, PM will review it before it is sent to the customer.

Hi , I got to just watch your course and its very informative. I would like to know is it wise to start with giving ECBA exam or directly give CCBA? I haven't given any certification till now but i do have an experience of 2 years working as a Business analyst. So Should i go for ECBA or CCBA? Please help

@36 min in the chart appears to be showing that 2% of successful projects were grand scale, not that only 2% of grand scale projects where successful, as implied.

It's not very difficult. Multiple choice questions with no negative marking. All questions are expected to come from BABOK guide v3. However, you must go through the BABOK guide a few times to be able to answer all the questions. Try ECBA practice tests to understand the pattern

Not at all, I am not sure how did you infer this....Project Manager owns the responsibility of a project and Business Analysts have to report to them for all practical purposes.

Yes, but it is advisable to get into business analysis with some experience. It could be in any field. But there is no restriction and you can also become a business analyst

Is the ECBA Live course and the ECBA self-paced course different in content or both are the same? I see self-paced ultimate is ₹9,516 and online course ultimate is ₹ 18,720 why this much difference? Could you please clarify? Also could you please tell me if I buy self-paced how the projects are done? Is there anyone to help to understand things in case stuck with anything, in the course lessons as well as in the projects?

Hi Swaroopa, I see that there are two differences: a) The live online training is live and you interact with trainer and can ask questions real-time b) The self-paced course does not cover Business analysis tools like Jira, MS visio and prototype tool. As far as projects are concerned, you can submit the assignment and our team will review and provide you feedback. Thanks.

Hi Diwakar, CABA by iSQI Germany is a specialized Agile BA certification. Whereas this is an entry level general BA certification by IIBA covering both Agile and Non-Agile approaches. If you are planning to get into Business analyst profile, it is better to go for ECBA. If you have experience as a Business Analyst, you can definitely go for CABA from ISQI or AAC from IIBA. Hi Atif, yes it is. Try and connect the BABOK topics and activities to a project activities. Also don't try to memorize everything. Finally, make a list key terms and their meanings used in BABOK as that sometimes confuses.

Actually this covers many elicitation techniques including user stories, workshops, interviews, job shadowing etc. This was the first session where the high level overview was being given and that's the reason, not every specific things could be touched upon. Not mandatory. Anyways, ECBA is a new certification and has been started from September last year. However, I would add one thing: The certifications help you in differentiating your resume from others.

Not at all...Business analysis activities are carried out in every software project. No matter which methodology you use. The Agile based Scrum methodology does not have a role named "business Analyst" but that is just a naming bias. Why it is not there, difficult to say. But does requirement gathering not happen in Agile? Does requirements analysis and modelling not happen in Agile? Of course, it does? These are business analysis activities.

How many weeks are sufficient for preparing exam?

Depending on your background, the number of weeks required for the preparation should be anywhere from 4-6 weeks. This does not include the course duration. During this prep period, you should go through the BABOK guide at least couple of times and practice with mock exams thoroughly till you start scoring 80% and above

Yes, I have no IT background but I came from the business section itself. I’m from the pharmacy so working in the pharmacy gave me the insight of what business would want and gives you an idea for analysis.

Yes, it's better to start at the beginning (or from the scratch) so that you have a good foundation. It is quite likely that, after 9 years of work ex, you may have to start at an entry level BA position with may be at a lower salary level. But remember, Business Analyst profile can help you grow much faster later to cover up this lean period in the beginning. IT business analyst is the way to start. I am not sure what do you mean by management business analyst?

Ok, So you want to build a career in Analytics. One thing you must realize that a pure analytics career does require programming and SQL skills and it takes a good amount of time to gain expertise. If you are completely new to this field, you should target a 1 year program as that is going to provide you a strong platform.

Private Jobs are not like Govt Jobs so yes. But as they say, you have to take the leap and it may pose risks. But reward is also in proportion to the risk. Do you have an option of taking long leave or something like that

Try and make short notes. Please note that you don't need to memorize anything. There are no direct questions on Techniques. The questions are related to how Techniques are used in a task. So focus on that aspect.
