If a Porsche 928 is a person's favorite car i'm going to like that person no matter what. It's a sign of good, unique taste. I am upset with Hot Wheels for not having any 924's or 928's in their current line up, i collect on a smaller scale..lol

Fantastic video. Great information. I bought a 1981 928 in incredible shape a year ago and have since done a ton of mechanical work to make it a solid daily driver. It's in a rare colour, Chiffon White, too. If you're ever up in New Brunswick in Atlantic Canada, there's a car waiting for you to explore the region. No need for stupid rentals!

I got a 80 928 5 speed for cheap 3 years ago. I learned how to drive manual in it. Despite my incompetency early on the car still never disappointed me. Even though reverse grinds every time it was selected, 1st just wont go in sometimes, 2nd just doesn't work most of the time 😅 The exhaust fell off twice, and it wouldn't pass smog until I realized the full emission system was missing. Clutch fan spins slow, pusher fan won't work. Dash is fully cracked... But the engine runs very strong. Car stays planted around bends. Rolling through the (35% operational) gearbox in the California canyons and LA highways is euphoric. The ownership experience is way better then my pervious newer cars. Parts are easy to find (comparing to my a 90's japanese car) Documentations are everywhere and the community is great and crazy smart. I found your channel 2 years ago and you helped me a lot. Watching this video I was like: Yeah the car DO vibrates rough and the engine mount IS very weak, and the boasters DO sag, and the doors DO rattle... Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! p.s. I always wanted to come to Miami!!

I would add change out any original radiator. Those oil coolers inside do not last forever and the dreaded mixing of radiator / engine oil / transmission oil is an expensive mess. Happened to my transmission in my '87 S4.

My second 928. The first written off while parked in town. The second I bought 12 years ago with 60,000ks on the clock in perfect condition. The first thing that broke was the bearings in the transaxle. Managed to rebuild, as new was going to be horrifically expensive. Had a pretty good run after that with just the normal maintenance, that was until I did the second cam belt which came at a cost because I had to replace all the cogs and extras. There were some grumblings about an oil leak, I think this was the rocker covers. Then an oil leak from a cracked sump which required engine out. All obvious additional stuff done including oil leaking from the rocker covers. During the process the mechanic wrecked the transmission, but when talking to the transmission specialist he said quite common for these Merc transmissions to fail after 160,000ks. Transmission rebuild. Car still not right, took it to another mechanic who sited dodgy workmanship, and where I thought the previous expense was high it was nothing compared to the further work done. Basically now aside from an actual engine rebuild, everything has been done including a refurbed air intake manifold, vacuum lines, fuel lines, thrust bearing, engine mounts, wiring looms, undercar metal protector, cat delete, etc. Only been out of the garage and it leaked air coolant and one of the coolant hoses had frayed. Car going in on Monday for the replacement of the 2 water houses up front. After this there cannot be anything else left to fix! So I guess the short story is that I have spent at least the purchase price on the large mechanical bills and that does not include normal maintenance over the term of ownership. These cars are now 33 years old and no matter how well you look after it, everything will eventually need replacing or fixing. But man the engine is so sweet now and way better than I can ever remember

This week my 1983s euro (300bp) arrived. I just had a first drive around the block. What a rocket!!! i cannot believe some people call this a slower car to modern standards. In a rolling start with the kickdown it flies away ! What an absolute thrill to drive this car. I am also very happy with the standard exhaust on this car - to a point where I don’t understand why people start fooling around with aftermarket exhausts. It destroys the soul of the car. It is perfect as it is!!

I was 14 years old when I learned to drive a manual in a 1982 porsche 928 that my dad imported because he could not find a manual for sale in the US at that time. To this day its still a dream car, but I have been too hesitant to buy someone elses problems...

Thanks to your advice I am driving my uncle's 928 that I inherited fully confident. I agree with what you say, definitely gets a second wind in speed, must drive the car to get it! The problem now is getting new leather seats, there are tears unfortunately. Not sure how I will proceed. I will be calling dealerships for a new dashboard, thank you.

This car from when I first layed eyes on it was and still is the car I would want on my wish list. A Bugatti, or a Ferrari or BMW or any other make or model just don’t bring the same feeling. Taste is individual.

In australia 928s GTs and GTS are now over $100k. Hopefully i can buy after your advice a S4..... They come in from $49k up....

Early cars sound better, easier to work on, weigh less (feel like an actual sports car) and you can make them just as fast as the GTS with very little effort

Should also check leaks from the steering rack, oil sump, transmission.

Also the tire cover is fiberglass and can make a lot of squeaking noise. Only the first half of 1987 had the flip up wing as well as oil squirters. Real Porsche motor mounts are around $900.00 Volvo MM are $70. Spend the money and get the real ones if you want luxury. Son, your wrong on the Timing belt. $1500 saves your engine. Can't afford that, buy a Pruis.Right about interior. Just look at the drivers side seat bolster , tells you everything. I have a Howard Wright 1987 s4. Get in start it up and drive. I only stop this car for gas.

The driver side speakers ( front) is not working since I changed the radio. That speaker is still new. Is that the reason why it’s not working now?

I agree regarding the later (GTS), the better mentality but my only qualm about the GTS is the red tail light bar extending all the way across its tail. I don’t believe the GT had this characteristic, doesn’t this actually make the GT’s more desirable since they are also scarcer? I think they also came in manuals more & had 5.4’s, no?

If I bought the 928 I would not sell the car, when I buy certain cars I don't sell them.
