I bought a used 90 lx 5.0 in 1999 when I was 16 years old. One of my dream cars. Listened to stories of my dad and his friends always talk about how they wish they still had chevelles, vettes, and gto's they had at my age. Vowed to never sell it. In 2019 I decided to have it restored and am in the process of putting the final pieces back in the interior and about to have it completed. Can't wait to get behind the wheel again. It sat in my dad's garage for 15 years after I moved to Florida. It's going to look great in my garage next to the Viper....another childhood dream car. I'll keep the 5.0 until I die. I'll be 41 in June and the finished 5.0 will make a great birthday gift to myself.

My dad had a 92 GT black on black. He sold it when I was 4 and i wish he kept it so I could drive it when I got my license. I got my hands on my 92 SSP coupe when I was 21 and haven’t regretted it since. It’s a addicting car and many guys around 50 come up to me about their nostalgia stories with these cars when they were my age

The way people drove these cars it’s amazing any are left to own.

Audience, I'm glad to have owned 3 foxbody stangs and still have one in my collection. All 3 were super clean, but that dollar sign kept getting larger and I sold 2. I sold a 93 cobra and a 93 gt for a nice value. Now my last one won't get sold unless I can't drive it anymore. It has little to no rust; meaning barely in a few cracks due to washing, but no rain or snow driving. I molested this one with a new ford stoker racing engine, AFR heads, procharger, hotchkis/koni adjustable suspension, autometer gauges, tko tranny, 373 gears, line lock, dual disc clutch, programmer to dial in AFR and fuel grades, MB QUARTS amp/speakers, pioneer deck, baer drilled rotors/brakes, 3" exhaust, dual fuel pumps, etc. too much to list. The inside looks brand new from front to rear.

My first car was an ‘89 GT. My second was a ‘91 LX 5.0. It wasn’t until my third car, an ‘02 GT, that I understood how actively you had to drive a Fox body. Crazy cars.

This was a great and informative video. I remember the 5.0 movement very well. These cars helped pave the way for EFI performance throughout the late 80's and into the 90's. I'm from Orlando but visited family in Miami frequently in the 80s and 90s, and I remember the 5.0 Mustangs in South Florida were always on another level. Even finding used parts for these cars was much easier in South Florida. I often went to Eddyson Enterprises for parts.

i bought my 91 lx 5l new and kept it 27 years and i sold it and regretted it , last week i bought it back and now i am super happy ,,,car has 49k miles and is super clean and all original paint and all ...looks and drives like new ...i missed the 5.0 5speed lx i just had to buy it back....my oxford white with black interior 5 speed lx looks and drives like the day i drove it off the show room floor in 1991

Ive owned several new and old 5.0's and have always found the well set up fox 5.0 manuals more fun to drive and exciting than the modern GT's. Sounds better too.

I had a 90 GT Cobra that car was so much fun. Wider tires helped and lighter rims. The funniest thing is the cops had LX 5.0 mustangs for highway patrol. I got busted by another mustang and the reason is the cop wanted to check out the mods on my ride 😂😂😂.

Hey man this was a really cool vid nice job. As far as the sub frame connectors go....forget the weld on type. Go the extra mile and go thru the floor. Waaaay better. Combined with torque box plates and tubular rear control srms. Makes the car a 1000 times better. Cheers from eastern Mass !

Simplicity is why the pre 94 models are popular. When the 94 model came out it was not that much more high tech but progressively the modern model is computer operated everything and takes the owner wrenching on it out of the picture to a great extent. I regret not buying the last of the early 90s V8 LX Mustangs around 1996 or so when people were obsessed with the new model and looked down upon previous gen of Fox body. They hit the sweet spot in pricing. Now the ones for sale are either beaten to death and destroyed or immaculate and command a price that is unreasonable for the amount of car you get for the money.

I have a 91 GT hatchback I've owned for 12 years and it's awesome! I have redone the air conditioning including the foam seals, original blower motor, fan speed resistor A/C compressor and maintenance to the motor along with minor repairs. The 5.0 is bulletproof!!!!

yes, it wants to oversteer with stock suspension....and rain is just free burnouts.....with a torque arm it handles great

I’ve had a bunch of fox mustangs and at 54 I can say I’ve had everything but a 93 cobra…(dream fox) I started with a 1984 gt turbo, then got to have a 1986 svo for a minute (😢missed) then a 1988 gt 5.0 convertible (with a ford Motorsport centrifugal supercharger) several v8 coupes, 2 2.3 coupes, a 1992 gt emerald green with silver ground effects and with leather and power drivers seat (rare) then the last was a 1993 black on black factory manual coupe I could not keep (needed restoring) miss that rare coupe! I need another one😝

My very first car was a 89 5.0 mustang, later in my life I owned a 87 5.0, and every single day after I sold them I missed them every day, over 20 years later I finally got me another 5.0, this one is a 2015 premium performance package 6sp manual, and I have my teenage smile all over again, and I will never sell this car the rest of my life, I will replace everything on it if I have too

Your 100% right on the fox dashes, i work with 79-04 mustangs on a daily basis, i see cracked dashes in the sn cars all the time but never in the foxes, biggest plastic fails i see in fox dashes are the guage cluster cowl tabs, those gey broke all the time.

Very good content. Correct approach to increasing the "fun quotient" of your fox body. The "raw", unsophisticated, visceral, tactile feedback must be where the saying "smiles per mile" came from. Kind of like riding a motorcycle; if you haven't experienced it, I cannot explain it!

Mine is a 91 notch. When I got it, it was so stock it hurt. Still had the silencer in the air box. It was a aod 5.0 with 2:73 gears. Now, it’s just a little bit spicier…😊. 393 Windsor, built C6, and 3:55 gears.

They make great drift cars too! Drift American sells tons of parts to make them quite capable

I have one in the shop right now. They are light and lightly built. Performance is superb. You are in a tiny rocket, not much room inside, you wear it. They are the definition of a death trap if you lose control in one. Great drag cars but be careful, you don’t want to get in a crash in one. I don’t fit in them well, I won’t be buying one but I understand why people dig them. Possibly the most unsexy Mustang ever made as far as body style but the performance makes up for the lack of body style.

I have a 1992 LX 5.0 Convertible I bought in 1993 I have 22,000 original miles. Just got my Marti report its 1 of 384 built in the trim code of white, white top and red interior ( how many survived ?). 1992 was the lowest production run so far with only 79,000 built that year.

Got a 1990 gt and everyone wants it 25th anniversary model original engine 90k HAVENT been driven since 2013 bout to put a 5 speed Tremec TKX-TR 3551 may change to 5 lug and new gears and axles but will sell it all for 20k

Got a Bone Stock 5.0 Vert' Foxbody, 40K original miles by my Tia and got it off of her when I was 16, (19) now and it is still bone stock been keeping maintenance

The AOD is not good. It can handle the 225hp but its by no means good, only adequate. The T5 is the same for that matter, over 300hp and you will eventually need a new one. The new MT82 6 speed transmissions can handle an additional 200hp easily, no upgrades. Now that is overbuilt! That is Good

I have no idea what you mean by the "5.0 Sound." The Fox is light, cheap to modify, and can be engine-swapped easily. They are certainly not the best looking of the Mustangs.

So many think the "fox body" stopped in 93 when it ran to 04... And as much as the "fox body" fans hate to hear the sn95 is a better car in almost every aspect, the only real difference is the 2" longer wheelbase and a small weight difference, so I basically boils down to personal taste which I understand 100% a lot of folks prefer the boxy body style of the 79-93, i personally prefer the 94-08 sn95 the dual cock pit dash is super cool imo. And so many fox fan boys were not around or adults when the fox was in it's hey day and if they were they realize ford had a very similar design style so compare an 80s escort GT to a fox they are very similar looking the escort just looks like a wimpy goofie version and the GT on the escort earned the joke of it meaning "gutless transportation" but anybody that thinks I'm wrong Google an escort GT and tell me you cannt definitely tell they were made by the same manufacturer. And I like foxes there a timeless pony car, and ford never made a convertible 79-93 fox it was an after thought conversion after it left the factory floor...Im not hating on the fox i just prefer the commonly hated sn95 and are irritated when fan boys say the 79-93 fox is superior there functionally not at all the sn95 rides better, handles better, stops better and has less quality issues and power wise as good and PI 99+ 2v 4.6 and 32v 4.6 will woop a stock 5.0 even tho I prefer the 5.0 but I can say I'd love to have a 96-98 cobra with the hand built 32v dohc 4.6.

These cars were the shit back in the day. Forget the automatic trans cars. The five speed is what actually made these cars fun as hell to drive. I worked at a Ford dealer I worked on many many of these. Including Georgia State patrol pursuit mustangs . They were so easy to get more power out of them. Simple shit removing the air silencer, advancing the timing by 10 degrees. They responded incredibly well to even the smallest modifications. One of the guys at the dealership I worked at had one with the Paxton blower that would run 11.36 at 116 in the quarter. I always wanted one but never did get one my affinity for IROC Camaro's got in the way. Now if you find one that isn't beat into the ground its ridiculously priced
