Welcome to Chasing Latitudes! Have you ever imagined the smell of the ocean air as your boat crashes through the waves? The freedom that comes from casting off the bow lines and heading out to sea to explore new places you can’t reach by car or airplane? Then this channel is for you.
You will not see white sand beaches here, restaurant reviews, beach parties, selfies or Japanese knives. What you will find is factual information based on decades of sailing experience.
My channel is specifically meant for one thing and one thing only, to help YOU find your new to you fancy-dancy yacht of your dreams and get on the water in the fastest, most time efficient manner.
Don’t get caught up in looking at old boats! I focus on mostly newer vessels, built in 2000 or later because I want you to spend as much of your time as possible sailing, not practicing your restoration skills on an old boat attempting to bring it to its former glory.
You want to take advantage of the amazing newer technology and modern hull designs when it comes to sailing. This is going to make your vessel far easier to sail solo or short handed and make them far more comfortable and efficient to live aboard full time or even just weekenders without buying more boat than you need.
I offer a wide variety of services including consulting where I will take you through the entire process of how to budget properly, choosing what vessel size will work for your needs, what type of vessel, I will help you shop for vessels, determine offer prices, schedule surveys, talk with brokers, teach you how to do your own pre-survey, walk you through hiring the correct surveyor and help you avoid all of the common pitfalls that you will find when purchasing used sailing vessels.
The consulting does not stop there, I will be with you every step of the way and long after you have purchased your vessel as consulting also comes with lifetime access to the members area,.
Chasing Latitudes hosts a large, active private members area where the members are more than happy to offer their own experience to solve problems, host private videos for ASA Sailing quizzes (ASA 101, 103, & 104), and live stream videos which feature anything from member cruising to boat shopping, boat comparisons, and other live content with chat from the subscribers to my KZfaq channel and channel members.
It’s time for YOU to get on the water. Come aboard!

What a complete pleasure to sail a boat like that knowing at the end of the day/ your watch/ single hand passage, you have all the safety and comfort you need. .

I am in love this sailboat. She is beautiful. My budget was $100,000 . But now I will be up nights reconsidering my situation. Everything I could ever want in a sailboat.

Having recently purchased a Beneteau 40, I would need to say that $130,000 is quite shy from the real market. You may find a stripped down bare bones boat for that. Be prepared to spend a lot of money to get it ready to cruise comfortably. Set aside an easy $40,000 to get it ready. I've been doing this for 34 years so very familiar with the market and the reality of it all.

Thanks Mike. I was planning on spending up to $175k all in which would include solar, water purifier, new standing and running rigging bimini, davits and on and on. Am I dreaming or is it doable? especially in this new inflation era. Rich

This was a perfect video for me, I'm 3 years away from retirement and I want to live on a sailboat in the Caribbean. I might not need this big of a boat because it's only myself and if I have people visit I would like a second or third birth. I'm very impressed with the quality of this boat and you can never go wrong with a little more room than too little.

I've been planning this for several years. Hopefully I'm six to nine months away. Waiting for spring is not a bad idea. But as one gets older one wonders how many more springs are gonna come. Sometimes I think you just gotta do it if you can.

This is a wonderful yacht and I would love one. However the LWL must be the same as 41.1 as same hull and only difference is less weight and cost savings on 41.1 . I cannot find the specs for the 41 stating a 40.5 LWL. Still an impressive yacht with 37 LWL.

I purchased my 2013 Oceanis 41 in 2021 for $180k, here in Newport Harbor. It's the 2 cabin 1 head version. The boat was in very good condition overall, but I still put about $60k into it to replace/service/upgrade and now she's more or less like a new boat. I love this boat, she sails very well in all conditions, is safe and very solid, and super comfortable. In 14k winds last week we were making 8.6k SOG with standard sails. Cruises at 7k comfortably under power. Even after paying a pandemic premium and putting quite a bit into her, people approach me often and offer to buy her. I'm certain I could get close to $250k, this boat is in such high demand here. IMHO, if you want a really nice 40' cruiser, you cannot go wrong with an Oceanis 41!

Comparing the 2010 to 2015 Oceanis 41 with the 2015 onwards Oceanis 41.1 According to Sailboat data, the 41 has an LWL of just over 37 feet and the 41.1 has a slightly longer LWL , even though they share the same hull. The 41.1 is lighter by around 600 kg or 1300 lbs. It has a much lighter resin infused deck that is joined to the hull differently at the toe rail. They also saved weight on the 41.1 with lighter furniture inside. All of this topsides weight reduction meant they were able to take weight out of the keel aswell. The mast was also moved further aft on the 41.1 therefore it has a different sail plan. The 41.1 has a higher SA/D ratio.

The marina fees by itself save you enough money to pay for the boat itself if you're a marina queen or king...........this is now on my radar (used:)

I have the year 2030 pegged for a possible boat purchase so the Océanis 41 will be approaching 20yo at that point. I gotta get my wife & I out on some boat deliveries to ensure we find the lifestyle to our liking. (I thought the Moody was your favorite brand?)

I love love love this boat! However, it needs a dodger, hard top cover with solar cells and a water purifier system. Oh, and davits with a dinghy. Can that be had with US$175K? Thanks, Rich

I paid that this year for a Beneteau Oceanis 40 2010 Fresh water only boat here in Vermont. There were a few available post Covid that had sat around for 2 years due to border closing . This has an upgraded with a high output alternator , solar , dinghy davits , dodger , enclosed cockpit , etc...but ended up needing a new transmission , running rigging, pumps , flooring panel and other issues related to the 2 year border closing . I paid 10 K less than that but with the repairs I'm at your budget. This video I agree seems very misleading...noted that there were no listing referenced? Rick

Love your videos .. this boat is awesome but I hate the v berths … 41.1 has an amazing forward master .. Just sold my Oceanis 38 which I had in charter in key west. I bought a house on the water just south of st Pete / Sarasota and I’m looking for a 40’er with a nice master and a shallow draft. I have no fixed bridges and even if I get the boat in charter I’d love to be able to bring her behind my house to my dock and work in her here once in a while. I love the Oceanis 45 but 5.75’ is as shallow as she gets.. The new jenneau 410 has a perfect swing keel option but I can’t wait two years … What would you recommend? Read more

Closer to your desires than anything you have shown so far. Except for $. (sigh) As you wait, the $'s might come down, or you might have more, but that's more wear and tear on the vessel that is being put on by someone else.
