Loved this episode! The intro was so good! I think some 1st mods to the 80 would be to make it breath better. That stock airbox looks like it doesn't flow well. A 3" manta exhaust will change it too. Might get better economy with those mods, I did in my rd28 when I did it

The first thing you NEED! to do is replace the timing belt & start a log book of repairs & services. Nice car though, money well spent. P.S Use genuine Toyota parts when replacing the timing belt.

Replace the coolant pump, it's right there near around the timing belt. Changing the other belts is also a good idea.
@dustyfarmer
@dustyfarmer 3 жыл бұрын
@@6047874 Yes, along with all the pulleys too, usually the spare parts guy knows this & will sell all the parts required, the timing belt service life is the main issue. a water pump can leak or fan belt break, no big deal... but a timing belt breaks on a interference motor, BIG issues.
@6047874
@6047874 3 жыл бұрын
Don't worry about the cosmetic both interior and exterior. Can be done last. Once when the belts and pulleys are sorted out, pull out the radiator and get it cleaned inside and outside, replace the top cover if possible. Then the radiator cap and the hoses, just put new one. Over here these parts are cheap and plenty. Anyway good luck and enjoy the drive.

For an old diesel like that I strongly recommend you get on that first major oils service asap for the engine, diffs, gearbox and transfer case. While you're at it check the grease on the wheel bearings and do the fuel filter. In terms of the engine oil I strongly suggest you do a proper job with a flush first. A company called cost effective maintenance has some really good products you might want to look into specifically the flushing concentrate and FTC decarboniser. They supply a lot of the mine sites with there heavy duty diesel applications. I've used the flushing concentrate and continue to use it each oil change along with the FTC decarboniser in the fuel and the old TD42 has never been happier.

Only with sexy fingers hand brake mechanics, everything they touch they fvck. Nothing wrong with a correctly adjusted Landcruiser handbrake with good, correct shoes to a good rotor handbrake surface, mine holds very well forwards & backwards, even locks the rear wheels while rolling without having to reef on the handbrake.

I consider rust on of the biggest, if not the biggest problem here in Northern Europe. But seems like you don't really deal with that kinda stuff over down under :-D Anyways a cheap 80 series would still be around 10000 €, which is approximately 11500 USD. But like I said, I'm pretty sure you need to put almost 5-10 k in for a good welder to do the body work. Engine should be fine.

Hi Aussie Arvos! I have a question that I don't see anyone making videos of. Apart from the diesel models, I have seen many many petrol+lpg Landcruisers for sale and being a newbie myself to this world of 4wd'ing, would you be able to shed some light on whether going for a petrol+lpg option is actually a good idea when it comes to a bit of touring and light 4x4 action? Or is it an option to just grab one of those and do a lpg delete? Just seems that it's easier to find petrol+lpg LC's on the used market (at a good price point too) compared to diesel counterparts. Would be great to see a video discussing this.
