IMPORTANT UPDATE: At the time of filming, the latest OTA (over the air) update hadn’t been released, which has fixed most of the Driver Assistance Tech concerns noted in this video.
Please stay tuned for a follow up assessment once I get into another Seal as I have now handed this vehicle back.
THANKS FOR WATCHING
I've been renting this BYD Seal Premium for a couple of months (at time of filming) Time for a brutally honest long-term review update. I'll compare it head-to-head with my previous Tesla Model 3, revealing where the BYD Seal excels and where it falls short.
In this video, I'll address:
Tech and Features: Is the BYD's infotainment as good? What features do I love, and what's frustrating?
Build Quality and Reliability Any unexpected issues or quality concerns?
The BYD Advantage: What does the Seal do BETTER than the Tesla?
Where Tesla Still Wins: The few areas where I miss my Model 3 (omg, seriously the world's best integrated car app!)
Overall Verdict: Would I recommend the BYD Seal Premium over the Tesla Model 3?
Thanks to ShareEV.com.au for adding this BYD Seal Premium to their fleet for our agreed upon rental period. We have paid to rent this car for our review period, and if you want to rent an electric vehicle to see if it's the right move for you and your family, visit www.shareev.com.au for short term rentals, rideshare-ready vehicle rentals, corporate evaluation testing rentals and more.

Two months of ownership makes your opinion far more valuable than a reviewer that has it for a day and has the PR team’s blarney still ringing in their ears. Especially having owned a Model 3 previously you are quite entitled to compare the two. I am seriously considering trading my 2yo Model 3 for a Seal Premium. It has a driver’s display and a HUD and 150km more range than my car while still using an LFP battery. I have tried the new ‘Highland’ Model 3 and the Seal feels more ‘premium’.

Thank you for your feedback and appreciate the kind words. I’ve actually been renting this one for the long review so that I could test it with Uber for the public feedback which has been super insightful. Seriously contemplating doing more rental long term reviews and incorporating Uber rider feedback, although I don’t have quite as much free time as I did at the start of the year. What people seem to forget is that it’s not saying the Tesla Model 3 is bad, rather saying the Seal does quite a lot of things better.

Great review, I've had similar experiences with my Seal Premium. The 2310 and 2401 updates have addressed most of the ADAS system niggles too. I picked up some mats from Rubbertree and they've been great so far. One thing I find funny is that I barely look at the dash screen because of the HUD. If the new M3 had 1) LFP beyond the standard range 2) indicator stalks and 3) the premium sound system range wide, I'd probably have gone with Tesla. I've been really happy with my Seal, even just charging it from the wall socket has been fine

I think this was a great comparison. I own a Model Y but if I were looking for a sedan, I genuinely think it's a hard one. Everyone's deal breakers are different, mine might be the lack of stalks and parking sensors on the Highland. The Seal seems like a good alternative, but I use the Supercharger network quite a bit that it would be a change in driving/charging behaviour if I travelled with a non-Tesla. There's also needing to service a BYD like a traditional ICE. As I said, at the moment it's a tie for me (and that says a lot considering I own a Model Y).

Thanks for your feedback. Some very valid points, although I wish Tesla mandated checks every year as I often see Teslas in my area with illegally low tyre wear (often uneven) and this would be picked up by an annual inspection. $200-400 is a small price to pay to keep everyone safe and to potentially save early replacement of tyres through rotation etc. The $10-15k difference in price makes up for the inconvenience of needing to service the BYD, although for me, I LOVED the Tesla app, it makes the car so easy to live with, something I know BYD will evolve to, however is currently lacking.

@roadtrip_reviews
@roadtrip_reviews 3 ай бұрын
Incorrect, most press cars I use for reviews normally don’t have such wear in under 5,000km. In fact, most don’t have that wear at 10-15,000km either. They’ve just chosen the wrong material for the carpet, but that’s being super picky at a car that does so well in most areas.

Two questions: How does it drive compare to the model 3. Secondly, does it estimate battery percentage when you set navigation, and how accurate is the estimation. The Tesla is pretty accurate and helps address my range anxiety.

I would say overnight would be fine to recover the range lost during your regular commute. However I would recommend installing a single phase, 32amp wall socket and charging your car this way, as it’ll do the full car in 4-6 hours. This install is typically $600 and is the most cost effective way to charge from home.
