I've wanted to own a Hakim for years, but they can be pretty pricey. I found this one for 500 dollaroonies at Royal Tiger Imports and couldn't resist... How is it?

I’m a former RTI employee and I handled a lot of the firearms in inventory including the Hakims. I look at their guns as project guns, not as out of the box shooters. While I was working there I bought a DOU43 K98 and the bore looked similar to yours. I had bought it with the intention of restoring (non historical) it anyway but I did test fire it just to see how it grouped. The gun was easily minute of Honda Civic at 100 yards. The rounds did stabilize but did not group. More or less just peppered the target at random places. I threw a Lothar Walther barrel on it and did my own restoration job. The gun looks good and groups well now.

Hey 8mm Mauser Man, I've been a fan of your channel since you posted your first ammo review (PPU 198 grain 8mm Mauser) back in 6/2020 and, after watching two or three more videos, I said to myself, "Someone get this man a Hakim"😁😉 P.S. I was bummed to hear about your Carcano (bulged barrels ain't no fun all) but at least the Hakim they sent you looks serviceable. Best of luck with future vids😊 P.P.S. BTW congrats on 3k followers🫡

When I use to be really into the milsurp firearm world; my best friend was simple green. For some reason simple would break down all the nastiness that was left behind in the bore, receiver, bolt carrier etc. I did this for all the metal components, not the stock. Never damaged any bluing either.

Be careful, the crack locatons indicate that it suffered a torn rim under pressure. It blows the guts of the magazine violently out the bottom. The condition of the chamber is the most important of all. If pitted, the cartridge will expand into the pitting and seize until it cools. Unfortunately the extractor can still tear off the rim. The Hakim manual of arms is only good for parts listing or valve adjustment. The history and manual of arms for the Swedish Ljungman AG42 is what you should use. Pay extra attention to cartridge lubrication and chamber brushes as cartridge extraction does not twist out the cartridge but pulls it straight out and is greatly affected by chamber and munition cleanliness and condition. Stay away from Turkish surplus as powder burn speed puts timing into dangerous territory for this semiauto. The Hakim is my favorite rifle.

An old trick is to sand the stock. Take the wood dust & mix it with wood glue. Then rub it by had into the cracks. Then clamp the crack tight. Definitely test where & how to clamp the crack before squeezing glue in there. The wood dust in the glue colors the repair to look the same as the stock. Plus, the wood dust will take stain if you restain the stock. You're going to want an 8mm, stainless steel bore brush. I normally dont suggest them, but you really have a sewer pipe there. The stainless steel brush will clear out a lot of gunk brass brushes never will.

I was lucky enough to pick up one of these second hand several years ago. Until I did a little research, I really didn't know what it was. I've only put a few rounds through it, they're loud! A year or so after that I picked up, from the same guy, the Hakim's little brother, a Rasheed. The other 8mm rifle, 8mm Mauser Man needs, is an Egyptian FN49. Ask me how I know?!

John be carful reloading for your Hakim, I also have one that looked like a new unshot rifle, lucky me, but reloading my hakim I found that the chamber is large and being a blow back type bolt that the bullet cases expand greatly, resizing is not a problem but the case gets week at the head, I have noticed cracking around several case heads on my reloads, have not had a full case head separation but no longer reload any cases shot out of my Hakim. a case head separation will ruin your gun and posabley you to. John enjoy your gun.

My son and I bought a 50's Hakim and an Egyptian FN49 at the same time. Both are in great shape and shoot really well. The bore in the FN is not as nice as the Hakim bore, but it shoots accurately. I reload 8mm and I had to really fine dial the gas ports on both as they bash the hell out of cases! I put a piece of gas line hose on the deflector on the side of the Hakim dust cover, which helped the bashing. Btw, Garand thumb has NOTHING on Hakim thumb 😂

I’m not gonna lie, mine is in better condition.. the stock hasn’t been shortened & no major cracks other than 2 smalls in the buttstock area the rifling is a little pitted but still shows defined lands !! I recently got the gas adjustment valve un-seized and still mine jams every 3 to 4 rounds even with modern PPU ammo !! Watch out for “Hakim Thumb”,it is a real thing-worse than Garand Thumb !! I wouldn’t be surprised if yours has jams as well until you can troubleshoot it properly, but I hope yours works good!! Best of luck & god bless, keep on shootin’

Looks like RTI dropped the price on these to 4oo$. I wonder if A) they've ran out of the more passable C-grades and have truly gotten to the bottom of the barrel. B) No one's buying C) People are hosing their inbox with bad marks as to their pricing. I think a lot of people go into these hoping for conditions comperable to what they've seen on the market since the dawn of imports. These are not that. If you can understand that, have read the description thoroughly, like to live dangerously rolling the rti dice, and are willing to replace some parts gradually and do a lot of cleaning, I can't imagine being shocked by what you get here, especially with the rti stories that abound. At the heart of it, theres guys out there looking for a nifty project, and like breathing some life into an old worn out rifle. At the end of the day is it going to be more expensive than finding a good condition one? Yeah, probably. But, you've not rescued one from the hellish torment of an open air Ethiopian warehouse.
