Don’t blame the fitter mate. Maybe the customer who phoned it in turned off the wrong meter in the first place. You’d be surprised how many people in flats who don’t know which meter is theirs. Once the wrong one’s been turned off, if that person isn’t in, then it can’t simply be switched back on. There could be a multitude of reasons for this. Happens all the time.

Wasn't the customer mate who turned it off. Cadent were called to a smell of gas from another flat. The tenants of the flat I attended were in and explained that the cadent engineer came into their flat, did a sweep test and confirmed there were no traces. Left them with no paperwork but turned off and capped their meter 🤷🏽♂️

If you yourself were a gas engineer then you would know what you're saying is incorrect. We have a duty to trace and cap the correct one. Failing to do so means we have left a live leak

Always do a burns test to check, don’t go by serial numbers as these can be wrong

Yes typical, gone is the times when it was British Gas 40 years ago, they just replaced the gas mains for smaller pipe down the road now it's poor flow rate 😡 not happy whatsoever

The requirements that Cadent engineers are required to go through are far more stringent than any of us has engineers would typically think! To have a simple mistake like this occurring far too often is the issue and the very fact that cadent will not be prosecuted the same as an independent engineer would IS THE ISSUE!!

My costumer's meter was capped of by cadent saying they had 7 mbar drop, i went there did tightness test 3 times 0 drop! Sausages 😏

If the engineer had to test the meters to find the leak and the customer was then not in he would be unable to turn them back on safely. That’s probably the situation there and a card would have been left letting them know

Tenants of the flat were in when cadent attended as the engineer apparently did a sweep test in their flat, found no traces, left them with no paperwork but turned off and capped their meter 🤷🏽♂️

@@cputilitysolutions strange, normally the guy that does the sweep test is a first responder, his job is to detect gas and evacuate if required then call in a team to complete the repair if leak is found on a cadent asset (pipe before gas tap). If the leak was found on internal copper pipes (after the meter) the repair is not their responsibility and they would make safe, cap the supply at the tap then leave at which point the home owner needs to get their internal gas pipes repaired for themselves. Not good that the wrong supply was turned off though! That would mean the leak was still live after they left :/

Meters should be indelibly marked on top when fitted to avoid mistakes.... as you know full well once switched off it carn’t go back on without access to the premises and will have to be capped... 👍

A cadent employee capped a meter because he couldn’t confirm there wasn’t any leak because the sun was shining in his u gauge There was no leak, the lady had no gas for 2 days

@@cputilitysolutions idk if its universal i just know if i called BG and told them the magic words OFF SUPPLY they have to move heaven and earth before the news reports i died in my cold flat miht be different for gas leaks idk maybe a different set of rules come into force when its a condemed supply even if the Disconnect was a mistake

Some of there guys are propa moody. Had one moan like crazy cus I called them out on a Sunday afternoon and his roast dinner was on the table. I told the customer exactly what would be said and he said everything word for word. The customer started to laugh at him. He tried to blag low pressure cus he assumed I didn't know the new working pressure regs. Think he wanted to get back to his dinner🐓
