I don't think we have something like this in the US. This show is so good.

While the fashion jewelry in stores is alluring, my body has its own defense mechanism against "the cheap stuff;" I can't wear anything less than sterling silver or gold, otherwise I'll have an allergic reaction. It's disgusting that the corporations willingly put workers and consumers at risk, for the sake of making money.

Why are Canadian companies so shady? At least the Chinese "factories" are honest. Cadmium is cheap and saves fuel cost for melting.

What canada should just do is test one piece of every load of jewelry at random and if the cadmium or dangerous heavy metals guidelines they should confiscate it. After that the company who ordered that should be fined 50k.

The regulator guy looks like he doesn't understand his job roles and responsibility. He acted like he was not very concerned and parenting can fix the problem of keeping cadmium products from kids. Shame.

This is the rule in China, there are lots of rules but no enforcement. When officials come around, as with Mexico and south Asian countries bribes make the officials find nothing. China signed the Paris accord to reduce emissions, yet look at the air everywhere in China or the color of the rivers, ponds and lakes. Nobody is doing anything but making rules they have no intention to follow. The "strict" Chinese requirements are tougher than Canada's, that's great but you found 100% cadmium products right? So what good are the rules?

Over 90% cadmium? Sounds like a pretty cheap relatively pure source of cadmium for lab work.

Multiple times I have watched marketplace and have learned of things that I didn’t even know existed that was harmful to me and now that I am aware I will for sure never let my one and a half-year-old daughter wear that crap! oh, wow, Canada!, good exposé!..and sad thing is, no one wants to learn their own 'bottom line' is dependent upon such evil - maybe even individuals who are 'only' in-store reps or cashiers who somehow, accidentally, learn the truth??..but then what about higher-ups (managers, execs on up to CEO's & CFO's, who have known most of or *all* of the time, who didn't care and, so, who did nothing (except to continue to promote their business products).. heartbreaking..but I guess only for those who have a heart and a soul.

I am American and I love watching CBC. Cadmium isn't even something that I knew to worry about and I am sure that plenty of it passes into America just like it does in Canada.

Make me ask the question: how do we tell what has cadmium in it when we buy it? Cause we have different stores and different things. How do we tell when we buy it for us or our babies?

I remember when I was younger I bought earrings from a shop. Can't remember what shop or the price but they basically gave me a reaction where my ears were infected and the infected mass was hard as a rock and had it removed. Had a massive hole left but thank God it healed.

wow great work :) this is much less dramatic than other reports on youtube, I love it. Yesterday I just admired a friend for her super cute yet incredibly cheap (1 pound/pair) earrings from Claire's, now I know they're probably dangerous. I thought those things don't happen in rich countries!

I just wanted to clarify that, Chinese factories accept manufacturing orders from brands and they only follow and make what the contract says. People should blame the brands that do not set appropriate guidelines for factories. If "cadmium cannot be used" was said in contrasts, industries must follow it or they would get in trouble.

Comment section: What's the point of having rules and regulations when they're aren't enforced? Me: To illicit BLIND TRUST in the consumer so that they OBEY & CONSUME.

That's the thing about corporate responsibility, "it's not a problem until someone complains." Companies employ quality inspectors and auditors. It doesn't mean the people in those roles are allowed to do their jobs. I've been that employee. I was repremanded and, had my employment threatened for the simple act of doing my job. Bet your money that I was to blame when someone finally found the time to complain about their products. Boss: "Where were you? What were you doing when that happened?" Me: "I was there. I did my regularly scheduled audit. I saw a problem and documented it. I had a solution and brought it to your attention. YOU told me that YOU would handle it." Boss: "You never told me about this." Me: "I did. It's written on paper, filed in my desk with all the audits that YOU reviewed, checked off and gave back to me at the meeting, where you told me that wasn't a problem. Also, I emailed you about it." Boss "Prove it. Find me that document." "Funny how those particular audits always seem to go missing, after I file them with all the others boss."... I had two coworkers, who also documented the same issues on different shifts. Our documentation always seemed to up and grow legs so management could pass down the blame.
