You may need to add some oil to the jack to recover lost range, all jacks weep a little with regular use.

Recently i modified a hospital bed to a motorcycle table. It has one brake for all four swivel wheels. Only needs a front wheel clamp and a ramp...

Thanks mate, good info. I have one of those red ones you would have bought (@5.24). It's fine for my mid-weight bike, but too flimsy for even a Harley Dyna etc.

Great vid Dan just couple of points I have one of the wider brought tables you show, the issue I had was the ramp part is not load bearing once lifted which means it could not be used without a jack to support the rear wheel ( Triumph street triple) not very convenient. I solved this by cutting off the flat section of the ramp & making it a removable extension of the main table with the other part of the ramp hooking on for loading/unloading. Now the bike can sit fully supported on the lift and with a jack to have the front or back end in free space as req.

Hey Dan, great reflection/evaluation video. I actually made one out of timber just after you recorded your build. I was only using it for dirt bike builds originally and it had no problems supporting up to 120kg. I made the mistake though of using some off cut ply (left over from the top) as the cross support where the lift jack pushes up. You can guess what happened the first time I put the CBX750 on the lift and tried to lift it off the ground. It snapped. Luckily the bike never go off the ground but it could have been nasty. There is obviously a lot of force generated on the leavers and concentrated near the fulcrum and pivot points and suggest anyone using timber consider using structural hard for the load areas. Cheers J

Great video as always Dan . Mine is the wide version that has legs like your not the scissor lift like the one you would buy . I've always thought that the centre point on the scissor lift would be the weakest point . Wheels wise I'd agree on swivels mines as yours fixed front and swivels at rear .. awkward as the clamp is the end where it swivels not the fixed wheel end .. makes it awkward moving it out for the longer and heavier bikes . Design changes would be the wheels and a full width ramp . Where mine is situated be the wheels at the ramp end aren't swivels I have to load at an angle which means the full width ramp is a blessing . .. Pros an con buying one to making one . Its instant use no hassle . Con .. not exactly what ya want but close enough . Cheers Dan

Next time you build a lift acquire yourself some old treadmill’s if you find one with the sturdy frame they work pretty well.

Do the Bunnies nursery trolley trick; have castoring wheels at the corners and a ficksed centre wheel about which the whole device can pivot. There should be one in your local creek.

4:00 Can you make it out of wood ? If you used a good quality plywood and laminated it to about the same dimensions ( maybe a bit bigger ) as the tubing you used, that should be plenty strong enough. Plywood is generally much stronger than dimensional lumber.

Re-engineer yours man, a longer lever on the lowering valve will give you more leverage and allow you more controlled lowering, add fluid (pump to top of stroke, add oil, pump till it stops, add oil pump till it stops...) to get the jacks full travel back. Change up the ramp now that you know what you need. Love your channel bud!

Dan, put some oil in the jack, and it should fix your issue. Was really cool seeing the CB at the end, I totally forgot what it looked like when you started. I must say it looks much better now!

Why not make an attachment for the ramp to the base so it's always easy to put it in the right position when needed?

i was going to try and build one but ended up with a 2nd hand hospital bed which works great (especially for hold tools while working on the bike) , only issue is how much room it takes up in a small garage and when there is no bike on it where to store it. Cheers 4 sharing your thoughts.

The only reason I haven’t built one yet is because I have the cafe bike… but I also have a 930lb Goldwing. I want something that I can use for both bikes not just one. For me to feel safe with putting my heavy old Goldwing up there, I want something with ideally around a 1200lb capacity so I know it’s gonna hold up and the Ram isn’t going to fail and drop on me when I’m letting it down slowly or even trying to lift it up.

Mate, I was almost afraid to watch this. From the title I thought maybe your table had failed in some way and your bike had fallen off, it is a bit on the bumpy side when you lower it. I think that bounce would be the biggest concern. I will just look for a table when the time comes. I will take on your advice and save a few $$$ and get the manual lift, that Hare & Forbes one looks great and the pre sales price is cheaper than many others, but $650 is a really awesome deal. Cheers mate

I’ve purchased a hôpital bed for 40€, I’m hoping the 170kg weight limit won’t mean the motor will tire too fast, and\or drop in a hurry… will have to do a ramp, a work base, and security pins…
