Calais, France - Dover Great Britain as a foot passenger on board of the Spirit of Britain ferry

What used to be a popular route for foot passengers to the UK isn't a popular route nowadays anymore. What it's like to travel as a foot passenger these days on a ferry between Calais in France and Dover in Great Britain? Even though there are three ferry operators on this route, P&O ferries is the only company that takes foot passengers.
In the video, I show you how to get from the railway stations to the ferry terminal, the ferry terminals at both sides of the Channel and of course the ferry itself.

Is there no mini bus from Calais ville? This, and one comment from 5 years ago from trip advisor, are the only comments to say no? Anyone got any info?

There were some rumours at the end of last year that P&O would get rid of foot passengers completely on this route, but luckily, it seems to have been false, or at least enough push-back made them change their minds. It's so sad that crossing by foot passenger is getting so hard, these days.

Nice video, thank you for sharing. Since march 2022, after Mr Peter Hebblethwaite made almost 800 P&O British and French staff members redundant, I don't want to travel with them anymore ! I prefer now to pay DFDS or Irish Ferries to cross the Channel !

Normally I prefer to take the train to Calais Ville (town centre) to or from Paris - I think this may now require a quick change at Boulogne (since the TGV started running to Calais as a local line). All non TGV trains are called TER which is the regional network right across France whose excellent maps show every single station on every line in France, however rural. Anyone using non TGV trains should be able to read and speak at least a little French, and that's good also for all buses, whether you're in Paris or anywhere else (where for example, to reach a famous Chateau, you need a local bus from the station). The TGV system is for getting across the country as quick as possible. It is not for touring or exploring the country.

Another question - how long is the process from the time you arrive at the terminal going through the borders?

The check in time is given on your ticket. The entire process might depend.

Btw the ferry seen at 10:08 is not the spirit of France, that's the Pride of Canterbury or the Pride of Kent which is not a sister ship of the Spirit of Britain, though the colour scheme is similar ;). Good review anyway though!

My family an I will be traveling as foot passengers to Dover and Im wondering if Is it possible to reach the Calais Port from the City Centre by using the Balad’in bus? Or any other bus? Can not find that info online 😢

I used Baldin bus, you can find the time in Google maps. Probably you can only plan this in maps about a couple of weeks ahead. However, you never know if French people are striking or not.

@@Trainvikinghi again, I am very close to travel and I remembered your message because just the day I am going to sail there will be a railway workers strike in Dover so there will be no trains, so getting to London will only be possible by bus.

Nope both British and French custom formalities take place in Calais (of you're traveling from France).

I'm sorry, I don't have the exact address. There are several points on Google.maps. I thought this was also mentioned in the ticket. Addresses might change, but u guess you just need the terminal building in Calais.
