Thank you for the wonderful video. I was watching the Monaco F1 GP last week and the commentators mentioned the Monaco railway station. We visited Monaco many years ago but went in by Coach. I had no idea Monaco was served by a railway. Thanks to your video I now know a lot more about this topic. I also loved your discussion about Sustainability and the different ways that different modes of transport impact the environment. I should perhaps add your discussion is probably a lot more relevant to Europe which has a very high population in such a relatively small area. Railway travel on that continent is very efficient in Economical terms because there is a large user base. However, here in AUSTRALIA, railway travel economics does not stack up. The three most populous areas, Melbourne, Sydney and South East Queensland are separated by vast distance. And the population density between these locations is very small. The Melbourne-Sydney flight corridor is one of the busiest on the planet. A plane flight from Mel to Syd is about 1hr15mins. From Melb. CBD to Syd CBD allowing for local travel times and airport transfer, the overall time of travel is about 3 hours. A High Speed train would need to average around 400km/h between Mel and Syd to match a plane flight. And likely only have one stop along the way maximum. The cost to build a hi speed line between Melb and Sydney would cost hundreds of billions of US Dollars and take several years to cut through all the red tape. Then there is the issue of powering these trains. At the current time Australia is struggling to supply sufficient electricity to serve the current needs of it present population. Most electricity is generated by coal fired power stations. There is a slow transition to renewable energy with gas fired power stations providing base load. And there is no Nuclear energy is Australia. It will be at least twenty years, and probably more like forty years before Australia can be confident of highly reliable electricity supply. So the Economics simply don't stack up. And at the present time with a potential user base patronage of probably around 15 million people, a dedicated heavy rail high speed passenger line would not be economically competitive against air travel. And probably not so for the forseeable future. Perhaps future developments in rail travel - energy efficient maglev trains running on elevated monorails - may be the answer. But they are decades off. And who knows, by then, we may have much more economical and environmentally friendly modes of air travel. Cheers from the Land Down Under.

Thank you, I posted this video as one of the first of this trip around the Alps. Actually I'll post another video (will be at least 3 months in between) for Nice - Ventimiglia.

Thank you, it's always a bit hard how to add this. Some people really don't like it however the sustainability thing is what makes me create these trip reports (okay I also love trains) i really want to show people what the train is like, what's all possible and try to manage expectations

A first step would be to cut all subsidies for kerosine, and airports/airlines in Europe. It's crazy that planes and airports are subsidized much much more than (international) train services.

Oh I took this train as the first leg of a trip between Nice and Verona (Nice > Ventimiglia > Milan > Verona), as part of a larger Holiday [London > Paris > Nice > Verona > Innsbruck > Munich > Paris > London].

It's actually a really important international connection. I'll also make a version Nice - Ventimiglia for this however there are so many activities in these towns soon, I felt like it makes more sense to publish this version first.

Only in Dutch the first a of Monaco is stressed, in English one usually stresses the first o. And in French … stress on the last o.
