PROBLEM 1.8
The DF boom of the slewing crane and the DE column have a uniform weight of 750 N/m. If the winch and load weigh 1500 N, determine the resulting internal loads on the cross sections passing at points A, B and C.
00:00 Calculation of efforts at point A
✅ A "cut" is made in the cross section that passes through point A and all loads involved in segment AF are analyzed. Note that we will have a load of 1500 N, the resulting force generated by the uniform weight of the boom (750 N/m) referring to segment AF and the efforts to be determined (Na, Va and Ma). Therefore, the equilibrium equations are applied to find such efforts.
03:30 Calculation of efforts at point B
✅ A "cut" is made in the cross section that passes through point B and all loads involved in segment BF are analyzed. Note that we will have a load of 1500 N, the resulting force generated by the uniform weight of the boom (750 N/m) referring to the BF segment and the efforts to be determined (Nb, Vb and Mb). Therefore, the equilibrium equations are applied to find such efforts.
5:40 am Calculation of efforts at point C
✅ A "cut" is made in the cross section that passes through point C and all loads involved in the CDF segment are analyzed. Note that we will have a load of 1500 N, the resulting force generated by the uniform weight of the boom (750 N/m) referring to the DF segment, the resulting force generated by the uniform weight of the column (750 N/m) referring to the CD segment and the efforts to be determined (Nc, Vc and Mc). Therefore, the equilibrium equations are applied to find such efforts.
