Thanks...I found this video AFTER I spent 2 hours thinking that I had everything....except the year sticker...those people at DMV are definetly DEI hires!

I surrendered my personalized plates (blue yellow) on my 67 Pontiac because they’re charging $43.00 bucks extra per year, why because they can. I’m surprised they haven’t tried to charge me somehow for my 66 which has its original black yellow.. they need a classic car program, Great video thanks for the info.

It is any plate 1963 and back. YOM (Year of Manufacture) Paper work. I have done it to both me old vehicles. As long as you place the sticker on it they tend not to make a fuss over it.

Key note, you CAN do this for everything through the end of the 6 digit blue/yellow plates in 1980 (technically I think you can do 7 digit for 1980 YOM too). The DMV website doesn’t say that but if you look in the actual code and the application it says you can. I just applied last week for a 6 digit blue/yellow motorcycle plate for a 73. Hopefully it goes smoothly!

I have the blue CA license plates since 1986 on my 65 Mustang. I decided to re-paint them. Apparently I'm not supposed to have done this. Lol. So I'm hoping no one notices it (my color matching is horribly bad). Looks more like Cal Berkeley colors. I've been saving lots of annual registration $ going with my YOM plates over the new black plates with have annual fees.
