Call a Commodore BBS using WinVICE

This tutorial will show you how to use WinVICE and TCPser on a single computer to call any telnet BBS at 19.2k as a Commodore 64 WITHOUT requiring any Commodore hardware. Featuring CCGMS Ultimate, 13th Floor BBS, Commodore 64, Winvice 3.1, Swiftlink

BTW, I found warp mode in WinVice "settings" . It also shows the Alt-W shortcut. Thanks, I didn't know I had that. And, BTW: Your board looks great. Just like back in the 80's. Same look and feel to it. Wonderful. Thank You!

Definite thanks I have been struggling all day to get the speed right and finally found your video after a whole heap of failing and deleting version after version of ccgms that i would freeze up on me when trying to atdt... I would like to point out one thing that i noticed in your description the command for tcpser has the wrong port it says 25324, I had copy pasted that into the terminal to run it and it didnt work so luckily i was quickly able to trace that. again great video thank you.

Hi there - thanks for doing this. I believe I have everything setup correctly but I get "no carrier" when I try to connect to a host. Any suggestions?

Try the address on a PC and compare the results. By it offering an "OK" when you type AT means that you've set it up correctly. Also make sure you don't backspace at all during the command. If you don't type it correctly the first time before pressing enter, scrap the line and type it again. Make sure there are no spaces between the address, the colon, and the port.

I follow this video but Vice always crashes when I hit enter on the modem setup screen. Changing the modem type to swiftlink and the baudrate also take a long time to make the changes. It appears WinVice is locked up while its changing those settings.

If you are using the latest build of Winvice you have to make sure the Lt Kernal emulation is off. There is a a memory conflict at $DE00. This tutorial was shot on v3.1

I got it to work if anybody is interested. I used the version at: csdb.dk/release/?id=171299&show=summary and my .bat file looks like: tcpser -v 25232 -s 38400 -p 6400 -l 4

You probably have your answer by now, but for the searcher - I use the version of tcpser here and it works: csdb.dk/release/?id=171299&show=summary On a side note... something may have changed in Vice 3.4 because in ccgms ultimate I had to leave the modem as User Port 300-2400 instead of Swift/Turbo. And you can't use host names in the atdt command. Just ping the BBS host name to get the IP address and use that instead: 68.52.141.220:6400

should be just like any other file. Download it to any folder of your choosing. The file extension is "d64" which is a C64 floppy image that contains commodore files. It has to be loaded into a virtual 1541 in WinVice usually to drive #8. Beware that a d64 file loaded into winvice and then has any files added or deleted during the session will behave as if it is a real floppy. Change anything on the virtual floppy in winvice and the next time you load the d64 it will reflect those changes. If you are unsure, make a copy of the d64 and load that one in so you dont lose the original.(I learned that one the hard way)
