The main difference between Miranda and Call me Kat is that Miranda’s talking to the camera is seamless. It’s so natural that you don’t see any break in the acting. In Call me Kat it cuts off what is going on and it seems awkward. I love both shows, but what worked in Miranda does not work as well in Call Me Kat.

As someone who is British Miranda has been a huge part of my life and I will always cherish it. I personally think it's really nice to see something so similar resurface and I'm especially happy to see you doing so by making the show so similar to that of Miranda as a form of tribute. A show that I felt did the best dealing with the breaking of the 4th wall was It’s Garry Shandling’s Show. It was less wink and a nod, and more so obliterate it. It made it feel as if you were watching a live stage play, and it worked very well with Garry’s personality. It’s hard to do, and it could be used as a crutch, but when done right, it can be quite funny. With the breaking of the 4th wall, what’s most important is that the character’s personality shines through and it’s organic. Easier said than done.

To begin: I found your show on Hulu the other day; I hadn't heard about it prior to coming across it, so I had no expectations. Out of curiosity I watched the 1st episode and found it very entertaining. I liked that you spoke to the audience throughout the episode; it reminded me of The Burns & Allen Show. It was a pretty cool aspect then and you've proven that it can still work today when done right. I also enjoyed how all of the characters in the episode wave goodbye at the end (like a curtain call after a live performance.) The stories and performances are terrific. I just finished the 7th episode and am looking foward to the rest. The characters come across as real and are nicely brought to life by a well chosen cast. I hope they keep the show going. It's a pleasant and welcomed surprise from the usual unwatchable programs that inundate the airwaves these days. I wish you and your show much success and a long run. Take care

@@anettecamou5335 No, the audience was cringing at George's stupidity 30 years ago. It was okay once, but, I can't watch most of the Seinfeld reruns because of him. People don't want the 'sitcom staple', we want originality. That, and intelligence, are why Big Bang is so popular. Big Bang also made us understand and become more empathetic toward the 'nerd'. I don't want to see an intelligent woman play the overused 'shallow buffoon' role when there are far better options. Also, we have all had enough of lying being portrayed as normal behavior. It's not funny, and it contributes to the devolving of society; as not everyone can discern the premise.

I honestly have to say, after big bang theory, it felt like there was (is), still a whole since Sheldon made his last speech. And as many probably there was tears, as I lost a way to relate to those characters, as they showed so much everyday problems and anxiety, and warries. I found your youtube show not to long ago and it has been soothing in some way to see and here how some of my fav people/ actors of all time struggle with the same issues I had/have. The episode with Kunar was amazing and eye opening. Thank you for having being part of my life for the last decade of my life. May God bless you and all the people you are able to help, assist and inspire.

I'm 42. I live alone with my 2 cats and bunny. My dad is not happy about my single, childless status, and I hear about it often. I have crippling social anxiety, and I have therapy for it twice a month. I have friends, both nearby and online. I work from home every day (even before covid). I wear jeans and hoodies when I go out, and I wear pajamas at home so I'm always comfy. I speak out loud to no one ALL THE TIME. I talk to my cats and bunny too, but usually it's either just to the silence or to myself. And I'm happy. Sure, I'm lonely sometimes, but mostly I AM HAPPY. I LOVE this show. If someone doesn't like it, or if it doesn't resonate with them...they don't have to watch it. I, on the other hand, want to see a show where my lifestyle is portrayed in a happy, quirky, positive light instead of indicating I'm the crazy, sad, spinster cat lady waiting to be rescued by Prince Charming.

As a 39 year old woman, I can’t express enough how much I love this show. I loved Miranda when I stumbled upon it. I was seriously sad when I reached the end, and desperately wanted more. This show of yours is like an amazing continuation but with a different set of characters. I loved the little nods to the show (fruit friends!), and the bits of yourself that you added to it. The WNTW bit had me rolling. Lets face it, there are plenty of dramatic, suspenseful shows out there, tackling the tough topics. Personally, can only watch that stuff for so long. I need something lighthearted and fun sometimes. I sincerely hope that people will be able to appreciate it as I do.

Remember the days when if someone didn’t like something they just didn’t watch it, read it, look at it or whatever and they ignored it and moved on with life because they knew it wasn’t for them? Instead now a days people just can’t do that. They want to complain and be outraged even over absolute ridiculous things. This nonsense has to stop. Social media has been the downfall of our society. While there have been positives of course there has been way more negative that have destroyed our way of life. There’s a reason not everyone needs a platform yet everyone has one and people don’t know how to weed out the noise. And now companies and others are doing what they can pacify the people they shouldn’t be. Most people who scream the loudest are not the ones you want to bend to. We need to realize that quickly.

It's always difficult adapting a UK series for a US audience, especially one that relies primarily on the very particular talents of the lead actor. "Miranda" also had the advantage of having a long development, from the Edinburgh Fringe to BBC radio, before coming to TV. As a result not only was there a known winning concept but the actors had lived in their characters for a while before coming to the screen, making their relationships as old friends and family easy on day one of filming. All that aside, the main criticism I have is that there is too much narrative exposition. There's an old playwright's dictum: never say what you can show. Kat doesn't have to tell us she has social anxiety, that should be obvious from her actions. She doesn't have to tell us her mom wants to set her up, when she waltzes into the cafe singing "Matchmaker, Matchmaker." Over-explaining suggests the writers think the audience needs to be spoon fed the plot. Have a bit more faith in your audience's intelligence.

@@bits68 Breaking the fourth wall for comic or dramatic effect, or to soliloquize, is one thing, but breaking the fourth wall to to explain things which do not need explanation, as they become obvious from the actions of the characters, is redundant at best. It's more engaging for the audience if they discover rather than being told.

I don’t know of one show (apart from maybe ‘The Ropers’), that has done well transatlantic, I think that even though we may speak the same language, the ‘subtleness’ of British English and ‘nuances’ are such that perhaps there is not a full understanding abroad. We watch American shows, but very few are ‘reworked’ to a British cast.
@ElliotNesterman
@ElliotNesterman 3 жыл бұрын
@@adelesteele2008 We've had a few UK shows that became hits when reworked for the US audience. "Till Death Do Us Part" became "All in the Family," "Steptoe and Son" became "Sanford and Son," both developed by Norman Lear who is rather a genius producer of comedies. "Man About the House" became "Three's Company," with development help from the same crew Lear had used for "All in the Family." And, of course, most recently there is "The Office." The US version of "House of Cards" was a big hit, until Kevin Spacey's awful behavior put the kibosh on that.

I think the last one the country is too big :) I mean in the UK there might be a week where they go to Wales and Scotland in the same week, it would be difficult (logistically) to go 'coast to coast' in the states!

So the least corrupt countries who held their citizens hostage for the shortest amount of time had the lowest Boogey Virus rates. Of course.... because people don’t get sick from germs, they get sick from being scared and upset about something that happened in their lives. Enter the worldwide FEAR CAMPAIGN. The Germ Theory was never actually proven to be 100% accurate, yet the trillion dollar medical industry is entirely based on that theory. What's the CAUSE of death in people with this "virus"? Does their brain explode? Does their heart stop beating? The CAUSE of death is still pneumonia. Pneumonia is not something you can "catch". It's a biological result of being "scared to death" of something which is exactly what the media has done to people dumb enough to watch them. You've heard the term "Worried sick". That's because your BRAIN causes you to become sick due to the stress it is perceiving! Why do you think young kids aren't getting the Boogey Virus? Because they aren't sitting in front of the news being scared to death because they're too young to understand a Fear Campaign. These pathetic "experts" just make shit it up to explain their narrative as they go. First they tell you kids bring home every illness from school because they're not "exposed" to enough things, then they say somehow they're immune to a Boogey Virus? Does anyone have common sense?! You don't show the symptoms of "disease" until you stop being panicked and afraid. These symptoms usually show up 1-2 weeks after you've relaxed and resolved the upsetting event. There's no such thing that some diseases you can "catch", but not all. It's not that complex! If you can't "catch" cancer, diabetes, MS, arthritis, etc., from other people, then you can't "catch" colds, flu and Boogey Viruses. So governments around the world are CAUSING fear frights in everyone based on an unproven THEORY by one man, Louis Pastaur, who redacted his claim of the germ theory on his death bed, yet no one listened. So of course, when everyone is allowed to escape the hostage situation the governments have put their people into, and they start relaxing about the Boogey Virus, that's not in any way transmissible, they will begin their healing phase (get sick), and believe they then have it, and more panic will ensue as well as martial law. The longer people allow this government to hold them hostage in their homes, the more severe the "sickness" will be. Can anyone put 2 and 2 together to figure out what I'm saying?? Western Medicine is pure fraud, and people's lives are destroyed because of it. There's no critical thinking anymore. People think they're educated because they've memorized the lies they've been told for 100 years.

God forbid that a leading lady is normal, accessible, awkward, funny. Just like us, in fact. I can't wait to see this. You and Leslie Jordan. I know I'll love it.

I stumbled on ur show and loved it. I then proceded to binge watch the episodes. Its goofy yet on point at times and exactly what I needed to escape for awhile. Thx!
