As roof repairer who spends everyday, humping that little propane bottle ,up ladders ,stairs,lifts , through hatches etc.using about 60 a year,Calor have lost business galore..also all the torches,bitumen boilers,site heaters have the Calor regulators.what a stupid idea Calor.

It’s the same problem for yachts. A lot of boats can’t be modified to take bigger bottles. Calor are walking away from a lot of loyal customers.

What really peed me off was Calor's press release saying that they were stopping these bottles to "enhance the customer's experience" It hasn't enhanced mine, the B@$♤@#♧$ are going to cost me a small fortune to replace my two calor bottles.

I think its out of order and for me i wont touch Calor again .I have a vee Dub and the van gas locker is made for the twin 4.5 tanks . i will go Flogas .

A dreadful decision by Calor, absolute betrayal of customer many of whose have camper vans built for their product. As for to enhance customer experience, talk about rubbing our noses in it. Just surprised they don’t justify by saying it’s necessary to achieve their DEI Rainbow approval certificate.

Another advantage of refillables is that they can be topped up before they are empty (subject to minimum quantity at the pump). An underslung tank is another option but quite an expensive initial outlay. Worthwhile in the long term for heavy users because of the cost savings on the gas.

Was told by a dealer, the reason why Calor has done this is some of those smaller bottles were knocking on for 50 plus years old, so rather than replace they are scrapping them, big issue for me as they are the only ones that fit in the gas locker and cannot modify. Problem if you go to LPG and get a tank fitted, costly but a lot of filling stations are taking them out. someone asked what happens, will Calor refund you, chances are no but they will exchange for a bigger bottle.

Exactly. Calor failed to invest and now can't justify the huge capital outlay. Apparently the newer cylinders were made in Turkey but there were quality control problems (one being that newer cylinders were slightly taller than the originals) . . This was one of a never ending myriad of excuses that Calor came up with over the course of 2 years or so.

Well refillable is cheaper - as I've learned since I bought a van with an underslung tank, but in the not yet three years that I've had it LPG pumps have been vanishing alarmingly ... (great video, by the way).

I work at B & Q. We've just finished with Calor and gone over to Flogas. Only the large propane and butane and you have to pay for the newl Flogas cylinder. Currently, B&Q are giving a 50% discount on a new cylinder contract, and you can't swap Calor containers for Flogas. If you have an unused Calor container and have an original contract form, you should be able to get a part refund if it's not too old, at a Calor centre.

What's a calor centre? We sell calor gas and the local centre closed and did not reopen after covid. We have to give 3 weeks notice for an order and then most of it is not delivered. Butane sells out in two days then next delivery 3 weeks. 15kg butane unavailable so we got 12kg butane which we have never sold, now that is being discontinued. We are drowning in paperwork but begging for gas. Our main job as a calor dealer is to answer the phone and apologise to customers trying to find gas on calor behalf. Its not a bottle problem, it's a MANAGEMENT problem who still blame covid for their own incompetency.

Calor are crap anyway. Couldn't get a bottle when our 1st Motorhome came without one. Luckily the storage place we use had an old Dongas bottle. We were able to change that for an 8kg Flogas bottle at a Tool Hire shop. Calor will only lose more business with this stupid decision.

I paid 500 for a refillable system and I saved 25 pounds everytime I filled up the bottles, and they were bigger too. Best thing to buy imo.

Calor supply of the small cylinders has been hopeless for the last couple of years. You had a better chance of buying hens teeth! I changed over to Flogas some time ago and the cylinders have the same size format as the calor bottles. You just have to buy a clip on fitting adapter for your gas tail pipe. Makes changing the bottle in future a tool free job. Feel sorry for the calor dealers who have been struggling with supply of full bottles and keeping customers happy while tied into a contract with calor unable to change. Flogas even during the lockdown periods were able to supply products with little or no delay. Calor just bleated on with all sorts of excuses of cylinder shortage, covid, gas shortages etc, etc. Really not surprised by this latest move by them, it's a company spiralling downwards fast. If you are currently a calor user wondering what to do now just go to Flogas there customer service is a refreshing change to the negitive BS you get from Calor.

My gas shop told me a few months ago, that there was a huge shortage of cylinders as, due to covid era, there was a surge in demand for camping gas/ alternatives like butane, propane, but they were one off purchases, meaning that it wasn’t cyclical, so those cylinders are sitting in many garden sheds now. They disappeared out of the system, a bit like all those fifty pound notes Kev has hidden in the third flower pot down from the front door of his shed. Maybe, this is why manufacturers have changed the cylinders.

Don’t know about sheds...I think most of them are to be found on market place and eBay....people trying to sell them instead of taking them back.

Go to any Marina or Chandlery and you will find dozens of empty 4.5 kg bottles. Calor just can’t be bothered to pick them up.

@@Sailing_Antrice We used to have a Chandlery. Calor Gas were basically unable to supply for over 2 years. In our last 9 months in business we had just one delivery despite putting in our standard order every week. Calor work on a one for one swop basis. We give them one empty they give us one full. Unfortunately, they decided that they no longer wanted to supply and over the course of 2 years came up with every excuse under the sun bar the truth. Calor Gas and Camping Gaz was a staple part of our business but by the time we closed it was of no consequence. Had we carried on we undoubtedly would have ended the contract with them as maintaining a cage full of empty cylinders was totally pointless.

Ok so Calor had a near monopoly market share of the 4.5kg and 3.9kg bottle market. Now they are walking away leaving boaters and caravaners with gas lockers designed to fit these bottles in the lurch. They intend to destroy returned bottles denying their use to any competitor. I think a call to the Competition and Markets Authority is in order along with a class action. Who’s up for it? Anyone know a good lawyer?

They closed the calor distribution centre in Portsmouth. I've always hated calor as an organisation even though I use it in my caravan. I use flogas at home but even that seems to be as expensive as calor.

All the refillable garages near me are no longer doing gas. They've taken their overground tanks out and replaced them with electric charger points. The other issue is if you think regulators vary that is nothing compared to filling an underslung tank in Europe. I'll stick with my diesel cooktop. If they stop diesel then my van's buggered anyway!

From 1st February 2023, the Cube, 3.9kg Propane, 4.5kg Butane, 6Lite Propane and 12kg Butane will be discontinued. This means that customers won’t be able to buy new cylinders or exchange existing cylinders of these sizes for a refill.

Good video chaps. Campinggaz 904 & 907, you can get new cylinders for about £70 and refills for £35-40 if you shop around.

Bearing in mind that Camping Gaz is only 2.62Kg they are substantially more expensive than Calor. Also, if everyone switches to Camping Gaz they will probably run into supply problems too especially as they are managed from France not the UK.

The solution is simple, carry on using your Calor cylinders, but fill them yourself from a petrol station that also sells Autoblend propane which are fairly widespread accross the country. You will need to buy an autoblend to propane or butane adaptor, ( approx. £18-20 ) and screw that on to the cylinder first, and also make sure that the cylinder is completely empty before you fill it. In the case of the small propane/ butane cylinders, you will fill it with Autoblend propane around four litres which leaves a vapour space inside the cylinder, for the liquid to expand in summertime. I have not bought a Calor refill for thirty years, as I always fill my own cylinders in this way, presently I am using about one fill per week in wintertime, which includes cooking and heating. The cost is around £ 1-70 per litre. which is much cheaper than Calor's retail price. The petrol station where you refill your cylinder will probably tell you a lot of nonsense about filling cylinders being "illegal" if that is their attitude, go elsewhere, there's no point in arguing with idiots.

Getting lpg at a garage is a dam nightmare, very few about & many stopped supplying lpg, I have a motorhome in Hampshire & drove 62 miles round trip but couldn't get any lpg gas.

Same here, but make sure you don't overfill your cylinder, tare weight is marked on bottle. Receiving cylinder pre cooled to -20c in chest freezer, put on scales and fill, it takes a couple of minutes to fill a 3.9 Kg bottle. Propane 47 Kg cylinders are currently about £100, £2.13 per Kg, compare that to the price per Kg of a 6 Kg refill!

I had a nightmare getting a calor gas bottle just before winter! I bought the heater and they wouldn’t sell me a 15 kilo bottle to use it! I had to pay someone 60£ for a empty bottle!! I use it for my home heating too I have electric fire that’s good for a dolls house ! A rich doll! I can’t use it it’s not worth it but a calor gas heater is amazing. Even now it’s minus 6 atm but I’m warm I’m glad they keeping them 15 s

I've just read in my camping magazine that the auto gas outlets are being slimmed down as well so check before investing in refillable bottles or you may be out of pocket.

If you've had Calor Gas cylinders for a few decades, it's unlikely you'd still have the original "hire document/receipt". So in that case there is NO chance empty cylinders, when they can no longer be used, will be going back to Calor who, to be fair, appear to have been trying to sicken off customers for years now. There is a major Calor depot near me but it doesn't allow visits by the "public". I have a couple of 6kg Propane cylinders in my caravan, which can obviously be refilled or exchanged with full ones, and a small "dumpy" 4.5kg blue Butane cylinder which attaches to my old Cadac. That goes in my car boot. I suppose I'd have to get a 7kg Butane bottle to replace the 4.5kg Cadac bottle when it runs out - but that probably won't be for a couple of years as I only exchanged it near the end of last year and I only occasionally use it on gas as I have other charcoal BBQs including a little fan-assisted one and a Weber "Go Anywhere". But the little bottle with the Cadac did the job when we took a tent over on the ferry to the Isle of Lewis (both as a BBQ and as a gas ring for a kettle and for a frying pan for breakfasts). Carrying THREE 6 or 7kg bottles would be a bit much....

Oh goddammit :-D Here in Finland 9 out of 10 caravans/campers/motorhomes/whatever use the same bottle. 0.5/10 have changed the connector to a different type and the last 0.5/10 can't fit the 11kg bottle so they have to use 5kg (or even 2kg if no gas heating). All of those are sold in the same places and you can exchange to different types without extra cost (if you for example need a bottle for your BBQ and have a spare in your moho with the 'moho connector'). Got to remember this video the next time when someone complains that everything is better everywhere except here 🙂

Flowgas 3.9Km does not have a folding handle and will not fit our VW T4 AutoSleeper Trooper. Not enough height in gas locker.

There was always a deposit, but it was never refundable, hence why so many empty cylinders end up for sale on Facebook marketplace and gumtree.

I've just swapped my empty 3.9kg Propane for a new (full) 6kg. Local stockists told me to be aware of the high camping gaz prices compared to Calor.

Probably not but when I wanted 6.9kg Propane couldn't buy a new bottle as Calor allegedly couldn't get them and price for an empty bottle via eBay was ridiculous , gave up looking in end then after 3 month my brother said he had empty one in his garden shed so took that into supplier and came away with a shiny new one full of gas. Therefore if you have a small cylinder now obsolete take it to local supplier and exchange for full 6kg or whatever you'll pay just under £30 for full bottle which you can always sell on if it won't fit in your van.

A Campingaz empty cylinder is £60 empty and £108 for a cylinder new with gas. Refill only is £45

Personally I think Calor is a ripoff they are charging double what the gas price should be which is why I changed to gas-it refillable bottles but LPG varies a lot in price from 80pL to £1.30L and many forecourts are replacing LPG pumps with electric chargers. This at a time demand for LPG is high. I filled up at Morrisons and the forecourt staff told me after my fill they only had enough for 1 more and they only had a delivery the day before. Calor charge what they like as they have a virtual monopoly on gas bottle sales

I'm Done with calor after all the excuses they've made for screwing up business for their main agents causing some of them to close down. So after watching some KZfaq videos, I'm going to turn my 2 fairly new 15 kg butane cylinders into rocket stoves 😁

Refillables have a cut off at 80% full it's extremely dangerous to overfill normal cylinders

If done correctly it is safe, it's just most people don't bother to accurately weigh their bottle first to judge the correct amount of gas to fill to 80% and some muppets just fill em up without knowing how much a Litre of LPG weighs, that's why proper refillables have a internal float that shuts of the supply at 80%

I hope the lads have a proper secure storage area for their cylinders, full and nominally empty, they must be stored at least 3 metres apart and 3 meters from combustible material, ie the sheds and at least 3 meters away from unprotected electrical outlets and light sources,ie the lights in the shed. These distances can be reduced by having walls of at least 30 minutes fire resistant construction surrounding and separating the cylinders. Yes I am nerd but it was my job for 27 years. Lol !

Flow gas have told me you have to have a like for like bottle but if don't have one to start with you carn't get one

Safe fill is a refillable bottle I have one not cheap but you refill it your self at most forecourt’s so the gas is cheap about 80 pence a liter & you own the bottle

Hard to find lpg at the pump now, they are doing away with it, don't know why, I am having trouble finding pumps

@@davidnewby8276 I was finding it harder to get about 8 years ago when my old VW had been retro fitted to run on gas. When I first had it about 15 years ago I had two places within a couple of miles, then I had to travel about 5 miles, then 8 (but in an awkward place so I went 10). I think the 8 mile place is still open but the 10 mile one has gone.

This is just the start , this is all about net zero Colure gas and flow gas will be gone in 3 years Gas as we no is on it's way out Lpg pumps at petrol stations are going and will be replaced with electric power points
