That uncoated portion on the back of the blade is not a "factory defect" it's designed to scrap the fire steel...so you don't mess up the edge of the knife.

Stow in a gear bag in the truck for emergencies . I’m actually putting some together in molle bags with other emergency gear for my guys, quick clot, tourniquets, bandages, poncho liners . Not a hand me down but a there if you’re in the back country and have sn emergency .

I personally own several good American knives and you may also have good quality knives made in the good USA. As an example, I've worked for a Ford auto auction and I've driven Fords since I could remember, but most Ford vehicles have issues which the manufacturer knows about but refuses to acknowledge specifically on F150s, corrosion, suspension issues, rupturing air bags, headgasket leaks etc. SUVs or cars made overseas are known for there reliability. Unlike American made cars....if anyone buys a knife it's purchase to use at that moment not to leave as an heirloom? with all due respect that's your reasoning for a purchase however most people aren't buying knives to leave to there children or grandchildren. Who's to say they want to live the same lifestyle or value knives the way I do? When you purchase anything made in China, you know it. Unfortunate we can't or don't want to produce within the USA because of manufacturing cost on materials and supplies. The USA literally drives business overseas. By the way consider this fact also, not everyone has $150/300 to spend on a quality knife so for under $20 bucks that set is worth every cent IMHO. it's a good starter set for beginners.

Knife seems to be a copy of Gerber's "Ultimate" knife, which is also made in china, just with a different sheath and handle material... Wouldn't be surprised if it's actually the same steel from the same factory.

China! 🤣 The " tool" looked like a Ninja Throwing Weapon ( Star ). If nothing else, maybe it could double for that. LOL. I kinda like the little shovel/pick... might come in handy in a garden. You basically have three choices: 1. Buy a bad Chinese knife for 10 bucks. 2. Buy an excellent Chinese knife for 100 bucks. 3. Or buy an excellent knife made in Amarica for 300 bucks. It's your money, do what you think you should.
