Dude, I would respectfully have to disagree. My 96 F150 recently had a water pump go bad in it. That thing ran with absolutely zero coolant for 20 miles and absolutely nothing warped on it. Mind you, this is a motor that already has 195k miles on it and has never had a tune-up or any significant maintenance since it left the factory. There are precious few motors that will do that.

Mines got a bad water pump and runs day to day. But its the fact it pukes up coolant every so often from the water pump, combined with a shoddy fuel pump, and i end up vapor locking at low speed. But she gets me there everytime. No just going home is the problem.

In these motors, they have peak torque and horsepower at very low RPMs and don't wear well over time when you do this, as they were not made for it. I would recommend very highly against it.

@@Heartstrong_Productions Well, the 302 in my Mustang wasn't meant to hit 8800 rpm either, but it handles it nicely. lol It's a Ford, don't worry about it.
@Heartstrong_Productions
@Heartstrong_Productions 5 жыл бұрын
@@AmericanThunder saying that is a nice way to sound like a cocky know it all to people who have been down that road. Total apples to oranges comparison here. You're comparing an inline 6 that drives like a diesel and was specifically designed to run lower RPMs. It's a workhorse engine. A 302 is more of an all around motor. If you run that a little hot, you probably won't hurt it. Do it in a 300 straight 6 for any length of time, you will. I've seen it and it isn't pretty. You wanna see head gasket leaks, spun rods, warped heads? Go ahead, run one around 7,000 RPM for an extended period. I did, I don't recommend it.

Well it all depends on what you want really. It will be a little harder for you because it is fuel injected but I got all my parts from summitracing.com. Its an awsome, safe website, you just enter the information of your truck or car into it and it shows most of the parts that are offered. Cams can also be bought on summit but if you go to the actual cam manufacturer website it is a bit more descriptive. Comp cams, Isky, Crane, and Crower are the major cam brands I can think of. Just take it slow read everything you can. Go to www.fordsix.com/forum.com, you can become a member and post questions or just lurk in the back for a few years like i did and read otherz post lol. They are all really friendly and helped me threw my build. Goodluck and be safe!

I'm also own a 71 F100 4x4 with the NP 435 transmission and it's getting a new 390 big block but after seeing this video I might try chasing down an old 300 and rebuild it like this!

@starsnbars85
@starsnbars85 9 жыл бұрын
About what RPM does the torque come on? I'm running the 260 cam because I wanted to keep low bottom end. Mine hits at about 1100 rpms and makes torque to about 2k then starts to drop off. I'm sure your port and polish changes that a some too. Also, are you running an EFI head? Or is it just the glasspack giving it the WOT buzz? I'm running a stock '75 carbed engine with a Thrush Turbo and when I crack the secondaries, it roars like a V8. Nice build at any rate though! Can't go wrong with a six.

With the Machine shop bill and parts it was anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000. I did all the labor on it when it comes to installing and taking/putting everything back together. I wanted to build the six because it's different. You don't see many people running around with a hot rod inline 6 cylinder as opposed to a V8. I'm sure building a V8 will be cheaper because there is more competition when it comes to the parts. Good Luck!, John

" Outside of that, I seem to have temporarily misplaced the file I have the receipts in for that particular build. If I find anything else when I locate said file, I'll post it. I really like the 300/6. One of the best engines Ford ever had. I had a 4.9 in an 89 F150 4X4 customer made for me while in the Army and I ordered it specifically with the EFI 4.9. They had more torque at the rear wheels than the 302 had. I had some computer work done on it, and it would really run! But on this truck, I would have to do something better with the exhaust!

Not true. Yes a 7 main bearing inline six like this produced gobs of torque, but with the right cam, carbs (plural) exhaust and ignition I have seen these put out over 400 hp. There was a nationally campaigned 300ci rock crawler in a bronco that was dyno'd at 600. I saw it. I have been building these 240/300 since the seventies. They are a real treat. Especially blowing off SBC's (actually quite easy). When they see what they were beat by it really pisses em off.

3RTracing cool to hear from someone who has been building them for a while. yea i have seen a video of one make over 500+ but never seen one in front of me. I want to build mine up to almost 600hp turbo charged and put it in a mud truck.

Wow, I forgot I had uploaded this video! I’ll have to make a new one to show the changes and current state of the truck!
