I bought surplus GI Bakelite grips for my Tisas US Army 45. Best $10 I ever spent. It makes the the weapon look legit.

Those are very nice pistols! I picked one up in 9mm because it was almost like buying a brand new Star Model B that is actually built to series 70 specs. Being a full size 1911 in 9mm, it is very accurate at 25 yards. I still need to try it out at 50 yards to see how it does. The quality compares very well to my Springfield GI .45 MIL-SPEC. If you look around, you can also find used grips in good shape with rack numbers still intact. The rack number grips really give the pistol a cool "been there, done that" look.

That's a pretty nice snag at that price. Changing the grips really gives it the appearance of a GI 1911. I snagged a CMP Surplus 1911A1, got a Remington Rand the first year they did the lottery. The Tisas looks just like it. Have heard good things about them. Hopefully it continues to impress!

I did a couple videos on this pistol, not long ago. I think it's a well-made firearm. I didn't care for the stock sights or the grips. I had those changed. I feel for the money, it's a must-have.

I’m curious what did you do for sights?

@@hobofactory Williams fiber optic. Some modifications need to be made to the slide to accommodate them.

Well, well! I got one of these just the other day in 9mm and have been thoroughly impressed too. The slide glides smoothly straight out of the box. I love how it is forged as opposed to cast.

I do imagine a 9mm version would shoot nicely. Main reason I went with the .45 (aside from the sweet deal) is I already had mags on hand for my Ballester-Molina (not quite a 1911 but uses the same mags), so no need to get more mags for yet another gun.

@@hobofactory Yep, the 9mm has super soft recoil with that full government slide on it. It definitely makes sense why you choose the .45, as 9mm mags are $20+ minimum!

Check the thumb safety? Is it very easy to activate or deactivate? I now own three Tisas 1911’s in 9mm and .45ACP. All three had short plunger springs on the thumb safety? Pistols all functioned great. But when replacing the spring you get a better detent on the thumb safety the way the 1911 was designed!

For mine, so far it’s easy to flip the safety, but not overly so, certainly not to the point that it would be easy to do unintentionally. I don’t have much grounds for comparison, though, other than a Ballester Molina, which isn’t a 100% 1911 but pretty close. The safety on the Ballester seems only slightly heavier.

@@hobofactory My first Tisas 1911a1 ran great until the safety activated on several occasions due to recoil! Now with 3 Tisas 1911’s I found they all came with shorter thumb safety springs. Once the spring wears in it may activate due to recoil? When I replaced the first spring with a Wilson combat spring. I found how short the Tisas OEM spring is compared to a true 1911 spring. It is much easier to breakdown the 1911 with the shorter original spring!

Looks very nice , you said you ran steel case ammo , by your statement you also ran brass . Do you think it handled / shot any differently . Also did you shoot just ball ammo or did you shot hollow point /defensive ammo , if so any notable differences

I actually didn’t really notice any difference in performance between the steel and brass-cased stuff. Very consistent ejection with both. Didn’t get the chance to try and defensive/hollow point ammo yet.
