Can I completely cover the USA by naming random towns and cities?

The geography returns once again with another addictive coverage challenge from Hugequiz, and this time we're in the United States of America!
Okay so the title isn't completely accurate as the map can't be completely covered, but here's how this thing works..
Pick your level (beginner, intermediate, advanced or expert) and simply name as many 1K+ populated towns or cities as you can think of. As you do so, the map will become covered in circles. Keep going until you have unlocked all the towns or cities.
What's great about this is when you have a small gap between circles and have to think of a really obscure or well placed city to fill it in. What's hard about it is all the sparsely populated areas that contain barely any cities. World version coming soon!
Have a go yourself!

You covered basically the entire west coast and almost everything east of the 100th meridian, which, for an exercise like this, should for all intents and purposes be considered a success. If you notice in your results, there’s an almost perfectly vertical line dividing everything you got correct to the right and towns you missed to the left. This very closely follows the 100th meridian, which is a fascinatingly natural border between humid & arable land to the East (due to the Atlantic Ocean) and extremely dry & arid land to the West (very little rain due to the Rocky Mountains and moisture from the Atlantic not reaching that far). Pretty neat to see it show up in your results. That land is largely empty in your results because there are simply fewer big cities and people in general.

You’re really good with these! I recommend when youre doing west side of America and guessing cities, a lot of the areas where named after losses in translation. Using simple descriptors are also good guesses. Black Rock, Widowfield, Flower Plain, etc. While they aren’t actually cities, there’s a small chance they are. You do incredible though every time you do these.

Glad to see Knoxville in the thumbnail, since I live nearby! Tom also had a Geoguesser video with the University of Tennessee (which is located in Knoxville) not too long ago. It’s always nice to recognize places that you are very familiar with 😂. Great Video!

I had a go at this quiz and only used the names of places in the British Isles. Doing this completed 20 states and 19852/21397 places. There was the odd time when the quiz took the first part of a name like 'Man' fro Manchester. I started with Derby and covered 1977 places in four circles!

Yes, I swear Tom was talking directly to me when he said "shut up, it's Or-RAY-gon" as I laughed at him. And as an Albuquerque resident, I'm ok with the inability to spell it. At least you know New Mexico is within the USA, when so many US citizens do not!

Another hugequiz I can really recommend is "closest coverage" on World (or Europe). There you also have to name cities but the circles don't have a set size, instead they stretch as far as needed to fill the closest (100/50/10) cities. It's very satisfying and fun!

Thanks for trying to spell Albuquerque so many times! We live here so we know how to spell it. Usually, I have to spell it for people over the phone if I'm ordering something out of state. I was hoping you'd go for Santa Fe, the state capital, and one of the oldest cities (1607) in the United States. Albuquerque was founded in 1706 and was named after the Duke of Alburquerque (different spelling). We think you did really great on this challenge. You can name more US cities than most US citizens!

I've found that once you get through all the places you know, just use Presidents, European capitals, every UK town name you can think of (including adding "New" in front of them), and then just take surnames, like Stevens, Foster, Willis, Jones etc. and then start tacking onto them all of the suffixes, like ville, dale, ton, mount, mont, port, branch, city, falls etc. And don't forget to do directions like North, South, East, West with the suffixes too. I even got Santa Claus. When I got desperate I just looked around the room and started naming random things - "Blanket" worked!! ROFL. Oh, and male first names like George, John, James etc. Animals like Moose, Bear, Deer, Eagle, and even state names with "city" after them.
